Glad I found this clip. A very useful setup. It reminds me of one my Grandpa built n the mid-1960s. Utilizing steel tubing and a winch, he built one that would lift his 14 ft aluminum boat up, and over his GMC pickup and set it down upside down on top of the camper shell. It would unload the boat, landing it bottom side down. Of course, the motor was removed first and the boat's temporary wheels were attached. Grandpa often drew a crowd when using it.
It's brilliant hey Phil... I've owned her a while now and still look over her in admiration for the design features that make it so practical for what we're doing.
More fishing time Steven ;) A big priority for me to make it the best it could be esp. given the fact that the wife and kids are in tow and might not be as keen as me for anything other than just cruising on the tinny if you know what I mean ;)
Brilliant mate , I have a Rhine side loader which makes it a bit easier but it is a major production to get it down and setup just under an hour once I load all the gear and the motor and electric. And a good hour and a half to load it back up repack my tray a d strap it all down. Can put some serious limitations on being able to get out
I had a mate who does structural design and custom fab check over it and help me mount it and he was totally impressed too. He shared so much with me about it's design that has given me even more appreciation for it than what I realised. And an Aussie made product!! Love it
Spot on Leonard. Early on I made the effort to fully slow down with it all and check over things. It's all straight forward and a clear process which is easy as now. I try to forget about the timing and just run with the checklists and run over it all before setting off. Definitely a load that has to stay where I leave it ;)
Thank you so much for this review because I have been looking at one for about 2 years and it has shown me a few things that the reviews mozzie has done doesn't show and I know now that we don't have to drive down to Victoria to fit it all 🤠 plus no one else does reviews on them because no one else has one
Thank you for your video. How is the boat loader now? Does it last for a long time? I'm just concerned if anything goes wrong in the middle of the trip, like any mechanical faults?
Love this system I have just bought an Almac Boat loader for my 2015 MN Triton and and I am going to load a 3.7m tinny on top with nothing else plus a 2.8 tone Snowy river 17ft caravan with the back of the Triton loaded full I was told I will bend the Chassis is this true please before I put it on the roof, Thank you PS I have seen some bent like a banana and don't want this to happen.
@@joshkrutli He has had a GVM upgrade. Not sure if he has had an GCVM upgrade.. But the maximum dynamic roof load on a luxie is 75 kilos.. It doesnt matter how strong the racks are. The dynamic roof load is about stability.
Johnny, head out to the Pentercost Crossing, turn off right on tracks before the crossing approach and head downstream for shore based barra on plastics!
Thanks Johnny I've been looking forward to this review, this has been the best review of this product that I've seen, I'll even go as far to say it's better than there website. 👍 Keep the up the great work look forward to your next video. 👍
Cheers mate. I got some similar requests to yours to do a review on it and I'm keen to share it as it really has made my fishing life on the road so much easier and gives me more time on the water esp. when we are dropping into places for a couple mights and moving on... A lot of boats end up staying on the other tourers cars when they do 2 day stops, whereas I knew I would be keen to get a shot at most spots as you can imagine ;)
@@markhabib hi Mark. I have had a super heavy duty roll cage support fabricated inside the canopy. It’s 3mm 50x50mm box aluminium. Not sure if ARB s would be enough. Worth checking out though for sure.
I had a boat loader in the mid 1980's that was such a hassle. The first time I loaded it with a friend the ropes pulled one side tighter than the other and pulled a hole in the side of the boat. Good times, good times...
You'll be way over on the Paj sport. It has a dynamic roof load capacity of 100kg. Meaning when the car is underway, the maximum you can have on the roof is 100kg. This set up is only really legal on a yank truck
I own a nearly identical car and I'm very interested in your setup. Can you put some info up on the inside of your canopy? Must be a huge structure inside to carry that load?
Hi Dane, If you send me an email message through mylurebox@gmail.com i'll flick you some pics. The framing has been a custom fab and fit by Pete at speccustoms.com.au. It needs to be solid but the way he's done it hasn't taken away any real space in the truck.
Hey mate, I haven't noticed a significant enough difference to give you an exact.. It would be less than 10% I'm sure of that and at a guess I'd say 5% or less. That's not a lot I realise but I only used to get around 450-470km to a standard tank not towing the van or anything.. Now towing the van and boat I get at least 420km.. ill do more check in time and get a rock solid number for flat highway kms and share it around. I would have thought it would be way worse than it actually is. The boat hull must split the wind for the hard front on the van.. I did hear from another bloke who has one that he has no difference by running it upright compared to his old upside down loader.
Hi John. I don’t know 100% but my guess would be that a custom rack and framing is the way to go for something like this. Definitely worth a call to Mozzi loaders to get their opinion
Pretty sure your troopy has a dynamic roof load maximum of 100kg meaning you can't have more than that on your roof while the car is moving. Your shy by about 200kg
thats awsome... the weight at the top for a potential rolllover is there.. but can be overcome with a competent driver and maybe knocking 40 kg off with the motor removal.. still very usable as is,,, with common sense
thats cool Johnny. was looking for something like this n cudnt find anything until now. perfect for my ram 1500. in the Kimberleys already, that was a quick jump from the highlights of the QLD leg of the trip mate. how did the NT treat u all mate.

Thats because we cant leave the country, all the west aussies who would usually fuck off to bali have decided to head north. I wouldnt waste my time going anywhere in this state if you like peace and space
Neat setup, I'm curious how much it weighs. How did you go with both GCM and GVM? Did you have to do any upgrades? Looks like you'd be close to max capacity.
Yeah I think this would fail if taken over a weighbridge especially with the camper trailer on the back. That roll cage adds weight too. Hilux GVM: 3,000kg. GCM: 5,850kg. Kerb: 2,075kg. Payload: 925kg. So assume the camper trailer is 2.2 (being generous) which is 220kg down on the tow ball, the canopy is 80kg, tow bar/bullbar/side bars/brush bars/winch is another 200kg, a long range tank of fuel 120kg, 2 people with luggage 200kg, recovery gear 50kg, fishing gear 20kg, fridge/slide/drawers 60kg, food 20kg, second battery system 40kg. That 1010 kg of payload BEFORE THE ROLL CAGE(60kg), ROOF SYSTEM(100kg), BOAT(120kg), PETROL MOTOR(40kg), ELECTRIC MOTOR/BATTERY(50kg), and BOAT FUEL(40kg)!!!! That's 1420kg and you've blown your GVM by 495kg. You can get GVM upgrades but your axle loadings would be your downfall even if overall you made a modified GVM. Note; I have never seen a GVM upgrade allow an extra 500kg of payload before. A few estimates in there but I think they are arguably fair. The GCM, which cant be upgraded, with all that and a camper is another hurdle. Your Kerb weight is 2075kg, payload 1420kg, and trailer is 2200kg. That is 5695kg, right on the raggedy edge of towing and weight capability for a Hilux. Now that camper looked heavier than 2.2t to me, and when you put some comforts in there and you are hitting your limits again. Not a useable system in a long range touring setup with this class of vehicle in my opinion, especially if you value your life or at least your license. Maybe take it up to RAM, Silverado, F250 and you might have a chance. Even an engineered chopped 200 Series would struggle.
Absolutely brilliant man

With the reinforcing and roof rack plus boat and trailer plus Caravan i dare say you would be pushing load/tow limits.
Probably also breaking legal load limits for cargo on roof rack let alone basic gvm/gcm
Max dynamic roof load on a luxie is 75 kilos..
I’ve got the same Ute and my max towing is 2250kg & gvm of 2.7t. That setup would have to be on the limit

Great idea what setup on the Ute and your weights. I’ve have an Mq which’s at 2.5 and a 17 foot single axle van with a family of five.
Been awhile since I've watched any of the Jack guide stuff and holy heck come a long way from the old set up. That's blood awesome

That is Awesome and genius idea. 👍👍
Hi Matt
Looks fantastic. Will the rack system fit up to a Toyota 300 cruiser hood rack system - maybe with some modifications?
You can't legally put any more than 100kg up on top of a cruiser while it's moving. This set up would exceed your dynamic roof load by about 250kg
very nice set up but do you have any video how are you going to put the boat back on top? just asking thanks in advance
