Are they seriously debating if Roberto Carlos was world class or not
Best LB in history
@@jossip22 Maldini over him in my opinion
@@Jak0032 ye
In terms of attacking he is world class but even if he was mnt English he can't rate him above Cole or Maldini no way.
He couldn't defend
Course he was.
World Class is a word just thrown around these days, I think what SAF meant by world class were players who could control and change games single handed. Elite of the elite I think.
No Beckham then?
Nicola Cavanagh overrated pretty boy
Wazza? Robson? Ferdinand? Irwin? Keane!?
Ferguson is just picking players he never fell out with. Before keane was fired ferguson said keane was his best ever player
There were plenty of players who were better than Cantona in UTD he isn't world class Van Der Sar, Rooney, Vidic, Rio they all were better than him
i play fifa on legendary so am i better than world class?
Yes
Absolutely
🐐
Hahaha
Another way to define world class, Is that you are so important to the team that when you don't play the team doesn't play anywhere near as well.
The one im thinking of in particular is Busquets, forget all his antics for a moment. He is so good at the deep playmaker/half back role that when he doesn't play Barca don't look anywhere near as good and as fluid as when he does.
I would go as far to say tactically speaking Busquets is more important than Messi, More integral to the way Barcelona play.
Another player who has a similar effect but is hardly mentioned is Modric.
I think it goes
- The best (Messi, Pele, Maradona, Ronaldo, etc...)
- Legends (Players who play at the highest level, are 1 of the best in their position in the world and do it for years. like Scholes, Gerrard, Lahm, etc...)
- World Class (Players who are the best in their position for a few year. Currently like Suarez, Hazard, Bale)
agree with alot pele was great but he is the most overrated player ever
@@Marcelg13 don't watch too many Facebook memes
@@Marcelg13 What makes him overrated?
Rooney is easily a world class player and one of the greatest player in the history of english football .
'English football'.
True.
Roz Sa footy is English
agree with Owen. best in a position at a given time.
So basically there are only ever 11 World Class players in the world? Seems a bit harsh. By that logic, Neymar was never world class at Barca since Ronaldo had the same position.
@@liampowell5014 No I would say there are about 30-40 world class players in the world at one time. About 3-4 in each position.
@@joshzulu8444 Agreed. Would go as far to say top five players in each position.
@@liampowell5014 nope
@@joshzulu8444 no
20 at most
You have to be top 3 in your position for 2-3 years to be world class
No more than 20 players fit that
What does 'World Class' even mean? Judging from the players he picked I feel like Ferguson has confused 'world class' with 'all time great'.
No he was right, these days ppl gave the world class name very cheaply
@@telekoadmasu no he was wrong
how can u say ryan giggs isnt world class because he didnt play at a world cup. its not his fault hes welsh
The "world class" label should be limited to players who transcend the world game. Players who become icons of world football, not just players who played in the Prem.
There is a difference between a world class player and a legend. The likes of messi, Maradona, Pele, r9 and cr7 (there are others as well) are legends of the game. After generations gone by, they are players who you would look at and say that was one hell of a player. A world class player is a player that in his position has excelled over a long period of time. Likes of Rooney, Henry, scholes, Wright and so many more were world class but none of them were legendary.
We should say Messi and Ronaldo are "playing legends' that is the appropriate term. Playing legends are levels above world class players. I.e before these playing legends retire they will be serenaded... Adored... Immortalized, in the sense that what ever they do wrong or right, bad or good, cannot change their status of legendary. Like zidane when he walked past the World Cup having been red carded. He was a playing legend then, and will be a legend regardless of his shortcoming in the last match of his international footballing career.
You have your true elite. The players that are the best of their generation. Iniesta is the most underrated player over the last 7 odd years.
Makanna Odu well said brother
Éamonn Ó Béarra thanks
Shut up
Cristiano Ronaldo has won the Ballon D'Or 3 times not 2 times.
Roberto Carlos not world class?? Come on Wrighty...
Having to be a complete player in everything to be world class is a load of nonsense too. Van Nistelrooy is a good example for that. The best description for world class is to be a game changer and to be consistent. And that can be from any position on the pitch. Just look how Man Utd have performed since De Gea has been back.. That is a game changing consistent world class player right there.
Some players can be world class for a period of time. RVP was world class in Fergie and Arsenal's last season but isn't anymore. Rooney peaked early, his world class years were between 2007 to 2011 but he is still a great player!
I do think there are less world class defenders today then there have ever been before though! Pique really isnt that great, Thiago Silva is untested in the stronger leagues, Terry is past it. I'd say Kompany is world class, he is a great defender and a great leader but I'm struggling to think of anymore world class defenders nowadays truthfully!! Thinking about it Ramos is world class, his defending, leadership and goal drove him to Champions League glory. Also played his part in the World Cup winning team too but even he can be a liability at times (red cards galore)..
Maldini, Cannavaro, Nesta, Ferdinand, Baresi, Cafu, Vidic, Zanetti, Thuram, Hierro.. There are no world class defenders like that anymore..
Edit: I just remembered Lahm!! He is world class!!
World class Defences aren't built on world class defenders . World class coaching and drilling is required. The great Italian teams produced great defences on great organisation. Btw Kompany is not world class. Premier league class yes, but what has he done in the world stage? Ramos, Silva, Lahm, Alaba and Godin are the only world class defenders put there
+Andy Summons Your completely right about Kombat actually. I could say the same about Silva. He has done nothing in Europe and plays in terrible leagues. He would struggle in the Prem. Look at how Otamemdi is struggling, how Boateng struggled. I will never understand the Silva hype
Micky G Silva is the only traditional defender out there. He's the best CB atm. Brazil crumbled without him in the last world cup.
Andy Summons He also cost them a place in the Copa America and has been dropped from the Brazil squad completely by Dunga despite him only being 31. I guess we will have to agree to disagree then.
Micky G What English players would you call world class in the last 20 years?
A player that has the ability to change a game single handedly. Not just any old games. The big ones. Not in PL. But in CL, World Cups and Euros. Big player reputations are made internationally.
That only really applies to strikers. Some players I.e mordic, Xavi, iniesta are the most important players but if the team are not on it they are made to look bad no matter what they try
Consistency longevity changing games on there own at the highest level. Winning games for your team consistently when team underperforming like Gerrard used to for Liverpool when he had average players around him
If you understand football you know that Messi and Ronaldo are the absolute top level. But I agree that if you are in the top 3 in the world at your position then by default you are world class
@@chichim2020 Underperformed for the national team but is Englands all-time top scorer?
@@chichim2020 he peaked early and fizzled out early. Dude was playing at the highest level since the age of 16, that has to take a toll on your body. He didn’t really take care of himself much either. But talent wise, Rooney is one of the greatest English footballers of all time imo.
Top 3 for 2 years straight
I don't even watch football these days, but I love seeing these lads discuss stuff.
not a Utd fan, but I would put Vidic as world class, same with Schmeichel, Evra at his time with Utd was the best left back in the world, that should make him world class
no way Ashley Cole is world class and Robert Carlos isnt, they were both World Class players
A world class player is someone who can make a huge impact to their club and country!
Gareth Bale can walk into any team going and you'd say got Wales in the Euros 2016
+Aashiq Rehmatullah Ramsey was very important too and as a whole they had a good team, not a great group of individuals but a good team. But I would say Ramsey is a class above the rest of the team and Bale is about 2 classes about him.
+Master but you get what I mean right, Aaron Ramsey is like a lot of Midfielders an unsung hero I mean his winning goal in the FA Cup final and overall his play is outstanding
Well he couldn't as he is injured most of the time
What if your club in in the spl
Is Rooney world class? Shearer? Beckham? Get involved and comment below...
All of the above are below world class. They were knocking at the door but going missing in big games for country and in the CL just cost them the label of world class. Ronaldo never won the CL but he is world class. Because of the 2 in the WC final and hat-trick at Old Trafford. Mind you the only hat-trick against United in Europe. Klose was the finisher of all the team play. There was nothing great about him. He did his job efficiently. Klose is a VW and Ronaldo is a Ferrari. Roberto Carlos not World Class give me a break. 2 assists in the CL final 2002, a world cup and numerous trophies with Brazil and 3 CL's. Wright is wrong.
World class should be if you would make the world squad! But maybe not so much now as defenders are a lot weaker now. There's not a true world class cb currently playing.
+BT Sport I agree with Fergie actually. I think world class such be a really hard group to get into. If Messi and Ronaldo are world class for this era then clearly only a few other names can make such a group. The word is bounded about far too loosely
Rooney and Shearer are world class but Beckham never
Rooney was world class. Shearer and Beckham, definitely not.
Even as a gooner, I hated SAF but I always respected him. He's spot on about these 4 players. I'm not surprised he didn't include Beckham, Rooney or Ferdinand but I'm surprised he didn't mention Ruud Van Nisterooy and Vidic.
Van Nistelroy and Vidic ahead of Rooney and Ferdinand?
I think they're all missing a point i think world class can b defined quite easily , if u are good enough to play for any team in the world any team would want to and youd improve any team your world class , so for example scholes in his prime would have been an addition to barcelona or real madrid if they couldve lured him away from united, world class
Rooney is world class top 5 strikers in the world for at least 8 years, plus he was the goal scorer for England and man u
I think the confusion lies in Fergie's definition of world class. Clearly Fergie sees the term 'world class' as the highest praise you can give to a player. Barring Schmeichel, if you were to categorise players in terms of ability then Gary Neville, Keane, Rio and the rest of the players Fergie ever managed do not deserve to be in the same category as the four he mentioned.
Ashley Cole was better than Roberto Carlos? WHAT?
Dan Cater Cole was world class but a wouldnt say he was in the same bracket as Roberto Carlos
He was. Roberto Carlos was suspect defensively at times just look at France vs Brazil (2006)
@Sean Tottenham he was never good at defending. Age is easily excuse.
Cole could actually defend so easily better no question.
Too many Carlos fanboys
@@forzaacmilan36 And Watch Roberto Carlos lift the World Cup trophy in 2002.
@@talkfootballdaily1973 Really doesn’t change the fact that Cole was better at defending, Carlos was better as an attacking LB though
For me it is simple, players who can produce constantly at the top level, I.e Messi and Ronaldo, its got nothing to do with what you have won or what tournament's you have played in, IMO.
Savage was World Class for 90 mins when he man marked ageing Zola 🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭🤭
How is David Beckham just a ''world class crosser''??? He's a complete midfielder! Every time when his team was pushed to the wall he delivered fantastic performances and great goals! He left all teams he played in as champion and always played with class and dignity! People usually say Ronaldo is way better than Beckham but during his 22 year career I never saw Becks diving.... enough said!
comfortably more natural talent yes,but not more talented at being able to ping a 50 yard pass to feet, that title goes to beckham between the 2 and i cant fkin stand becks to be fair
Beckz becks was a great player but not world class no pace couldn't tackle poor temperament not world class
ive never dived once while playing football, but im not better than ronaldo.
That Ronaldo point at the end is one of the stupidest things I’ve ever read
Carlos not world class wtf
I believe a world class player is the type of player that does not have to be in form to win u games
The reason Klose is not rated as world class is A. he played at his peak in Bundesliga and B. Didn't quite do it when at Bayern Munich. When he went to Italy and played at Lazio, he was without a shadow of a doubt a brilliant footballer. Much better and technically more gifted than I ever thought he was. Really intelligent football brain and definitely very very underrated. He did wonderful things at Werder Bremen as well. The issue is that when it came to champions leagues and Uefa cup successes, unfortunately his club career didn't quite match that of his performances when with Germany. But to call him just a 'great goalscorer' and not a great footballer is inaccurate. If anyone watched him during his years at Lazio, they'd understand what I mean. One brilliant goal vs Milan comes to mind, when he literally turned Nesta inside out. Very intelligent footballer. Watch at 00:09 in this video ua-cam.com/video/E43x0a1oJB0/v-deo.html
World class should be the top 5 players in your position in the world, consistently over at least a few seasons. That would mean at any one time there would only be 55 world class players. That doesn't seem broad to me when hundreds of thousands of players play football professionally!
why was Rooney the thumbnail? lmao
Ruud van Nistelrooy was their best ever player. Clearly the most ruthless, efficient striker ever seen. He fell out with Alex during the end so ofc he holds a grudge and won't mention him. Schmeichel; Beckham, Ferdinand, Stam, Evra; Ronaldo, Keane, Scholes, Giggs; Van Nistelrooy, Rooney. /Arsenal fan
karius is world class won real madrid the champions league final on his own
World class means the whole package , sheer ability , consistency at the highest level , singlehandedly affecting games & backing it up with trophies Imo....
Gordon Banks was world class world cup winner with England one of the best goal keepers of all time
World-class is simple, a player can start in every team in the world.. like salah, he will be a starter at every club, that is world class..
I think Sir Alex would have put Roy Keane in there, but I think the falling off really tarnished their relationship
Gerard is world class
Peter Schmeichel was world class. No ifs ands and buts about that. He was the goalkeeper that defined Manchester United in the 90s.
Look at that Madrid team macca was on!
Being world class is getting a lot of goals or assists when your in an attacking position, or at least changing the game by influencing it
Anyone know where the full video is.
That lovely Real Madrid team if they had José at the Time it would be brilliant
I agree with SAF. Many of them were good players, but looked better in the system
Klose not a world class player?? weird criteria and consideration of the term world class there ..
If Peter Schmeichel was not World Class, who is? He won so many things with Manchester United. He was the main reason Denmark won the EURO in 1992, even though they didn't qualify and didn't have Michael Laudrup (one of the best play makers in history) with them. Especially the final against Germany was very much a Schmeichel performance.
I hate how people bring trophies in to it, especially international. George Weah won the FIFA world player of the year in 1995 but was Liberian. He had no chance of winning an international trophy. If Messi was playing in a semi-pro team he would still be one of, if not the best player ever. It should be judged on ability only, although obviously ability is easier to judge and assess if playing against better opposition on a larger stage
+Jamal Williams What would you think of Klose then ?
Bashman11 Very good player but not one of the greatest ever. Like Muller before him, he is amazing inside the box which enables him to score goals proving he is in a good team to give him good supply
Ashley cole better than roberto carlos ? did these guys ever watch one game of roberto carlos
Cole wasn't fit to clean Carlos' boots.
Wayne Rooney : 237 Man Utd Goals
The whole reason behind this is to get people debating and talking about his best selling book
Rooney was world class in his prime at club level. Beckham is debateable. Ryan Giggs was world class, Rio, Vidic... I'm a Liverpool fan but come on, Ferguson
Totally agree, He changed uncountable games single handedly. And had a bit of everything in his game.
becks missed 3 penalties in a row...he was a celebrity..average player but a world class passer...and poser..
i feel defining a world class player is a gut thing
Prime Rooney was absolutely world class. He played out of position and injured so much for the team it didn't help him. Honestly anyone who doesn't think Rooney was world class didn't watch enough football.
The difference between Ronaldo and Klose was that Ronaldo was more of a modern striker, dribbling, pace, positioning runs finishing, strength, etc. Klose is more of a fox in the box and relies on other players to feed him
I think Michael Owen was spot on. World Class should be defined as being consistently one of the best players in his position over a few years at least. Which would mean Fergie had at least 30 something world class players.
To define world class honestly Zinedine Zidane
what sir alex says is in his time at man united, and the player under him, why they go anywhere in the debate, to Zidane, Zidane isn't even in ferguson team. please
Gordon Banks was world class world cup winner with England
listen, people say oh you have to win world cups, European cups/championships, leagues etc... but look at say Totti, one club man never near a CL final, maybe 2-3 league titles tops & I may be wrong but he wasn't in the Italy squad for many a year & I would class him as world class player in his day? would of walked onto any team! ... my definition of a world class player is a player that could join any team & improve them.
+Tommybamboo Keane Yeah, Totti, Del Piero, De Rossi, Pirlo.. The eternal Italians were all world class back in the day!
there are world class players then there's elites
The Machine yup
Kevin De Bruyne is world class brilliant midfielder for man city
6:20 Peter Crouch joining in on Twitter haha
and yet no mention of Bobby Charlton who was the best player in world cup 66 and tore south american teams apart for fun, he was world class
He didn’t play under saf
Sir Alex was 25 kicking ball for Dunfermline at the time mate…
Ronaldo has 3 ballon d'ors, not 2
The question is (or should be?) would that Man United team have won as much with any other manager, other than Sir Alex Ferguson?... did he, in fact, make good players look "World Class"?
After this video

UCL 2016 top scorer
Euro 2016 2nd top scorer
UCL 2017 top scorer
UCL 2018 top scorer

If Owen and Beckham were world class players then they probably would say Wright and Savage were great players. Therefore, what would we say about Zidane, Figo, Maradona, Baggio and Brazilian Ronaldo?!
I agree with Sir Alex, you can't just call every player is world class.
Nobody would ever think of considering savage world class.
+Nathaniel Hendricks zidane, maradona were the best of there generation. They was beyond world class
You have to say Owen at one point in his career was world class, he won the ballon d'or! Also I think everyone forgets how good Beckham was due to his celebrity status, he was world class without a doubt
Wayne Rooney could be considered world class but remember the trophies he did win he had brilliant players around him such as Ronaldo

If klose isn't World Class whom holds the record of most goals at World Cup and his International record is mind blowing then how does that make Rooney World Class?
I would say a world class player would be able to walk into any other side in the world
A wold class player is someone who could play in any era in any league in any country and do things others couldn't do. Zidane, Ronaldo, Ronaldo9, Messi, Thierry Henry, Dennis Bergkamp are all WORLD CLASS. Beckham, Rooney and Alan Shearer are fantastic players but NOT WORLD CLASS
+rw19901 by your definition Messi hasn't proven himself to be wc yet ;P
No no I am also English- I just know how thick some English can be. You are evidence of this. Thanks
You keep mentioning Barca?? Barca signed Alex Song, does that make him world class? Real Madrid signed Steve McManamon, does that make him world class?
im sorry rw but shearer is right up with the greats of the number 9s
World class should be classed as the top 5 players in each position
Too much leeway there, top 3 for me
Shearer is only being tagged world class by these guys cause he's English. I put him in level 2 with guys like Totti, Fowler, van Persie, Keane, Shevchenko, etc. Not in with Henry, Ronaldo, Messi, Bergkamp, Zidane.
Thierry Henry was world class best player in the Prem great striker
Rooney's weave is world class !!

+caketaker14 What?? The best in the world???
+caketaker14 i thought he was just good he thought he was god but was he really did he have loads of panache No
Rooney was world class
The reason why he said Scholes & Giggs were world class was because of their longevity that they played in the premiership & still product moments of brilliance. Not all players can do that look at Ferdinand now. Retired. Giggs was still playing at this age. Ronaldo & Cantona simply because they can change any team he goes into & player under different managers & produce unbelievable amount of goals. Eg Messi is world class. He won 3/4 Champions League with 3 different managers. That says alot about the little magician
Longevity does not make a player world class lmao. That's just play style and physical health. Suffer injuries = Career shortening
+Andy Summons I alr said longevity & the ability to create moments of brilliance! Not all players can reach the age of 35 & be great bruh !
Champion Red Messi won 4/4
Michael Owen is literally dying for one of them to say he was world class 😂
Robbie Savage is definitely world crass

if Van Persie wasn't world class in Fergie's last season then I don't man.. He won a league title by himself. Was a disgrace he didn't win PFA player of the year that season
If ur top 5 player at ur position for a 4-5 year stretch u were world class, simple
World class is what psg has up top.. all 3 will start at any club in the world

What I think is this. the phrase world class is thrown around far far far too much these days. So what they are saying is basically the whole of golden generation that didnt win anything for England are world class
Nistelrooy was a world class striker
I think this is a dumb argument, Fergie still called the others great, he's just saying these four were the best.
Not having Schmeichel as world class made no sense. Look at United’s form significantly dipping between Schmeichel and Van der Sar
@@liampowell5014 His definition of world class is just different to yours. He just put schmeichel below Ronaldo, I don't think that's an insult.
@@NightRyder Schmeichel is arguably the best goal keeper in EPL history and was an integral part of United’s success, in fact if he wasn’t there, United would have five less Premier Leagues and one less UCL.
Comparing him to Ronaldo doesn’t really work for me, far too different positions and GK is the hardest position on the pitch.
