    Hi! Just a tip, so bunching onions LOVE to grow together.. well.. in a bunch! :) I would gather 6 plants and plant them in a bundle. They love to support each other, and it helps them do a lot better

    I learn so much from you I cannot thank you enough. After countless attempts to grow onions from seed and failed everytime I took your direction and I have onions growing. This video is going to help me in a couple of weeks. Thank you for sharing your knowledge. Seriously can't believe that I have onions growing from seed that I seeded. I did and do a happy dance everytime I look at that them.

    nice video, germinating some seeds in a couple days. your intro song is the same song " Richard Gene the fishing machine " uses at the end of his videos. as it plays along, he says "Go fishing when you can, because it's GOOD for you"

    One question..what about fertalizer? Do I need to put some into the bed

    • @Growwiththelaplantes
      @Growwiththelaplantes  5 років тому +1

      Not for the first week if your beds have been topped up with nutrients. After the first week of just watering you can use a fertilizer. If you aren't using a fertilizer injector, you can use a slow release fertilizer such as Tomato Veg. through ORGANIQUE, It's organic and works amazing. You can just Google it to see if its available in your area.

  • @paulabeattie8565

    Where do you buy Johnny's Seeds? Would you do leeks the same way? When are your onions harvested? I would imagine that it would get very hot in there very fast. I am not sure what to plant in my hoop house this year, I was thinking cucumbers and tomatoes again. I grow organically and last year I managed to actually grow lots of cucumbers because there weren't any cucumber beetles in there!
    How do you stop the grass from encroaching into your beds? I have put up a barrier about 5" down but it still manages to come through, of course mine is that nasty couch grass.
    I wish I lived closer, I would come and help you, I would love to be your apprentice and learn everything!

    My back's not ok with that method.
    I like tools or techniques that allow standing work. You're still young and strong.

      It's hard on anyone's back, this is why I like our table beds but unfortunately, they had their last season last year. We definitely need to build more. I wonder if my grandchildren would enjoy planting onions lol..

      Amazon sells very, very cheap raised planters at about waist height that these would absolutely love. One of the Amazon choice ones is $40 and will support 40-60 fully grown Bunching onions (Or even more if you like the thin pencil greens). I purchased one two for my mother and she has 6 basil plants in one and Lisbon Bunching Onions in the other.

    For the 2021 growing season I'm trying my hand at growing a significant amount of onions for an organic farm located in northern British Columbia and I was wondering if these techniques you've outlined would apply to storage onions as well? I'm looking at 6 beds that are approximately 170 feet by 3 feet and it's a little bit daunting of a task but exciting as well. If you have any tips, tricks and or advice I'm all ears! :)

    • @Growwiththelaplantes
      @Growwiththelaplantes  4 роки тому

      That is very exciting!!
      yes, you could apply the same technique as bunching onions, but transplant 6" apart, and you will only cover the bottom of the bulb in the soil. All the best! If you have any further questions, please feel free to ask.😁

      @@Growwiththelaplantes When starting onion transplants would you recommend individual plug-start trays or just broadcast seeding like in this video. I imagine broadcast seeding in a 24 cell pack (like in the video) would take up less bench space than individually seeding seeds into their own plug and I'm just wondering if that would make a difference when it came time to transplanting 🤔
