Raven Review, Holiday World CCI Wood Coaster | Most Important Wood Coaster of the 1990s?

- The Raven is a CCI wood coaster at Holiday World. This ride won the Golden Ticket Award for the world's best wood coaster several times in the early 2000s and it catapulted this Indiana theme park into the place it is today. This ride has a wonderfully wooded setting and a fantastic second half, making it a blast even after all these years.

It’s actually my most ridden coaster in the park, and it’s one of my favorite coasters to marathon. On one of my visits I only rode Voyage and Thunderbird once each, and I spent the rest of the day marathoning Raven and Legend (but mostly Raven).
I prefer the other 2 woodies, but I'd marathon Raven more at another park.
Had no idea this used to have buzz bars, absolutely insane
I couldn't find the exact date they changed, but I wish I tried it with them.
It's either the most intense family coaster in the world or the most unassuming looking thrill coaster.
I wouldn't call this a family coaster.
I got my first rides on Raven last week. Short, sweet, and to the point. Great ride, it’s extremely easy to see why this ride changed the history of Holiday World and the industry as a whole. Great coaster.

This is my home park. I remember when The Raven first opened. It really put Holiday World on the map. And the park just kept adding bigger and wilder coasters.
This ride set them down the path to the park they are today.
A lot of the people who scoff at or laugh at the Golden Ticket Awards for Raven clearly didn’t ride it when it had buzz bars. And when it was new it was not rough.
Some people think Phoenix only wins because of the buzz bars. But if you compare the layouts, Raven wins in my book (but not if you love ejector pops).
To consider what buzz bars do to an otherwise decent or slightly above average layout, I submit Cornball Express.
Do you know when the buzz bars were removed?
@@CanobieCoaster I don't, unfortunately. I know it was before 2002 that they made the switch (I was still in high school) to the individual ratcheting lap bars. So it was before the unfortunate accident during Stark Raven Mad.

I thought it was great in 2021, but it did not ride good at all last week. Not only was it extremely rough, but that 5th drop gave only mild floater airtime in the back. Legend, however, went the other way. Horrible in 2021, but I totally loved it this time. It was the smoothest wood coaster in the park.
Raven was bumpy for me in the 2nd half last month, but the 5th drop still delivered. I agree Legend is running phenomenal this year.
I like the current PTC trains and individual lap bars
The buzz bars looked better.
I only made it to this park once. Hot take, with early and midday rides only, i liked Raven more than The Voyage overall.
That's a very hot take. Was Voyage rough for you?
@@CanobieCoaster not rough, except one pretty good pothole at the bottom of a drop. Raven felt like a runaway train and the voyage while long and great, didn't really have a standout feeling. It was a morning ride on the voyage, so I have got to get back there to give it another chance. 😁
I'll have to try the very back row for the stronger airtime next time, I normally just do row 11 because it's not a wheeled seat.
That's fair. It doesn't usually make a big difference in forces on most wood coasters.
@@CanobieCoaster I agree, Thunder Run at Kentucky Kingdom is a great example of similar forces in the back car

Same, they built a lot of good wood coasters with unique layouts. Most are pretty different from each other.
Idk about others but I found this crazy rough and too rough to enjoy the solid airtime while legend wasn’t bad roughness wise

It has some shaky parts right now, but I still find it tolerable.
We found all three wooden coasters to be rough when we were there a couple of weeks ago, but to me Raven was the most tolerable except for a major jolt towards the last half. Legend was the one that almost killed us LOL!! It left us all with bruises on our outer thighs the next day.
And do you like both the first drop and the fifth drop on this ride? What do you think?

Not at this time. I've released individual reviews for all their major rides as well as the dry park and water park.
Personally this ride has never done much for me, always found legend to be the far crazier ride, which is why that coaster is in my top 15 but Raven isn’t even in my top 100
I prefer Voyage and Legend, but I still like Raven.
@@CanobieCoaster I’m going tomorrow so hopefully it’s better for me, even though I’ve been before many times and it’s never done much for me, I still have faith in it though because I know how crazy CCI’s can be
Only thing wrong with the Raven is that it's over to fast.
I prefer it over the legend
I wish it were longer too.
Too many potholes in the second half for me to enjoy this. I gave up after the very first ride.
