So if Dre'mont blows up this year we can extend him next season and spread out the big hit since he's only 27?. If he's just okay this year, then we cut him and eat the $6.66M?
yep john scinder is a genius but honeslty i would relese him geno and lockett and save around 75 million dollars in cap let howell grab the reigns and bring lockett back on a 2 year 20 million dollar deal
@@tarasgubarik Except its rare for a player to be released and then agree to a contract extension afterwards. If could happen with a player, it could happen with Lockett. Since Lockett probably does not want to play anywhere else. I would love to see Lockett stay here for a few more years and finish out his career. But, I think most likely he is released after the season and he's gone. Hopefully that is not the case.

Solid play, really hope we can snatch up some LB depth. Hopefully, it's not all just in-season buffer money for a trade deadline move or something like that. Go Hawks!
My complaint is not so much with a $4M void year, but the bigger picture that it's not healthy for a team to have such a high percentage of the salary cap tied up in one non-QB position. Fans always think this position will be the "best safety duo in the NFL" (us) or the "best pass-rush in the NFL" like Chargers fans thought when they signed Joey Bosa and Khalil Mack. Good coaches know how to scheme to neutralize any one position of strength. I expect our linebackers to get attacked relentlessly, and Dre'Mont Jones will get his 30 tackles and 6 sacks.
You can be fine having a high percentage on a non qb position when you have a qb with a contract like geno.
I never consciously thought it till you mentioned it but i agree teams will definitely target the hawks LBs as the weak spot

I believe now we're gonna extend D.K. and Love to save up more cap and go out and trade for either a ILB or DT/DE/EDGE or maybe a LG, we'll see.

Not really, we went from dead last in cap and likely over the cap to 28th in cap and likely needing to use most of that for our practice squad and a few mil for our injury buffer. Unfortunately we were in a really bad situation and this gets us more back to even not really in spending position.

Advocating for void years as a general practice is not the move. Look at saints and 49ers for example they’re suffering for it big time now for kicking the can down the road. You said it yourself, that the 9ers are entering salary cap hell in coming seasons and it’s largely due to void year contracts. Hard for teams to adjust to net negative cap space when it’s translated to personal holes on the roster
If SF had to pay paid what NFL QB are now making, that roster is a whole lot worse. They are right now working with 50 million cap space than any great team because of it. SF hell is coming it started this year they cut guys you know darn well you would have wanted to keep. Void years is a trap. They are a win now thing and a team ruiner in the future. SF is in win now and has won nothing. They many end up with nothing to show for their cap hell that is coming. At least the Rams got one from their cap hell. SF can't say the same. The Saint got nothing. How this guy think void years is a good thing show how little he knows. It never changes. It's there no matter what. That's huge. Can and is cap killing for teams. It's a credit card you will have to pay in the future with full interest.
Who thinks the Jones signing was a good move?
If was a classic overpay at the start. At his age if he was the guy Seattle thought he was Denver never lets him go. DL who can rush the passer and play the run at his age teams don't let get away. Denver didn't even try. That should tell you something. He wasn't very good. 30 years ago, as his size he'd be a monster. In today's NFL for what he plays he's small. So slow for LB. Too small for a DT. Doesn't have the traits to play a 4-3 end or a 3-4 end. Sure, Donald wasn't big but he's a one of a kind that comes alone every 15ish years or so.
1 Void ok, I guess. But a few and now it's 12 or 16. It adds up. You don't want to push dead money. It kills you. You think SF wanted to lose the players they cut this year? No. They had to because of money pushed. Seattle's GM has been pretty good at not pushing money. He's starting to fall into that trap. Better be careful it can kill you. All those 4 million as a single seem like nothing but they add up.

Jone never sees the 25. Why Players sign a contract knowing there is zero chance of them getting it is inane. Sign for less and get all the money. In the longer run its more money if you get the money. What good is a 500 million contract if you only get 2 of it. You can say I signed for 500? Ok, I guess.
