Do let me know if you've made the move yourself and think I've forgotten yet or better yet, if you have yet to make the move and have some tips for other people getting ready to move over!
About the subscriptions! Cancel them and buy them again when in Canada. Netflix, Spotify, all of them struggle to do it so it's easier to do it this way. You won't loose your history (at least I didn't for those 2)
If you have a Driver's License rememeber to carry and also Driver's Abstract which is very usefull to reciprocate to Canadian License. If you don't then you have to do a complete 2 stage driver conversion and tests as a new driver, which will can be confusing.
I also moved to Canada recently and also opened a UA-cam channel :) And I can say that about those references it is crazy here XD I can understand references from employer but from landlord . . .
Ok, an idea for one of the next videos: I've heard from almost every person who had emigrated, what the the first apartment they rented was a mess. That happened because newcomers usually are not aware about some local nuances (related to climate, to neighborhoods, etc.) So is there any thing you should be extra aware of while choosing an apartment to rent in Canada? Any pitfalls?
Great suggestion! That could be helpful because I do think a lot of newcomers don't leave enough time to find a long term place for themselves and end up having to ignore some of the red flags. It can be because its crazy expensive here, amongst other things, esp in the bigger cities, but giving people a heads up to leave a little bit more time in temporary accommodation might leave some breathing room so they spot the flags and make sure they get an actual nice place to live! It could also be such a cool way to connect with some newcomers who have landed last year or even earlier! Love it! Thanks so much 😊
Thanks for the great video! Something my family and I have been considering as Mexican/US citizens is entering Canada with a USCMA/CUSMA work permit. If you guys could do a video on that process it would be super helpful!
This is SO SO IMP. Specially the driving, insurance, subscription & CELL Phone part... unreasonably & unexplainably HIGH. I am from TORONTO moved here from middle east... still yeah
Crazy expensive insurance is right! Hopefully this can help someone get their plan reduced because buying a car with the fuel costs and insurance prices the way they are now seems like a bad move, but very tough to see the rest of BC without one.
seriously, moving to Canada and the first 2 minutes on Apple subscriptions, buy a car, buy insurance, show your original country license and away you go. I think you missed the point. talk about health insurance or important stuff
Alas, the point I was making was things I wish I knew before I moved across and that if I could go back I would change because it would have been easier to do/ access them in my own country than when I arrived. Health insurance is an important topic for sure and rest assured that we're in the process of making videos about it!

Far too many of them. There is some big brands over here that have complete waterproof material and jackets starting at $400 ex tax (at the low end). I have been noticing some jackets on sale as of late though so maybe the answer is to buy during the summer months 🥳
Excellent video and full of some very helpful suggestions. The only thing I question a bit is the cost of the raincoat - where did you go to pay $500 for a raincoat?? LOL. Sport Chek is typically running sales that are very reasonably priced (say under $200 or so). Now Sporting Life on the other hand or MEC - not so much. Perhaps a follow up video on reasonably priced places to shop might be in order?
Glad you liked it Rob. So I properly should have specified that when I got here I had so many locals telling me about the magical properties of Gore Tex and how any rain jacket that isn't gore tex isn't worth buying. This led me down some rabbit holes where one of the cheapest coats I could find (that was gore tex) was $450 pre tax. But a great idea for a video about reasonably priced places to shop! That is a very good question. We were very transparent with our landlord when it came to credit checks etc... so I imagine if you can show proof of home ownership or mortgage payments or anything to prove your a trustworthy tenant you'll be a-ok. A work reference can also help with renting a place as its vouching for your character so maybe still worth getting one of those for your house hunt?
We were in the same circumstance when we moved here. When we found an apartment we were given 3 options. 1)Provide references from previous landlords. (Not possible as we had not rented in over 20 years). 2)Have a Canadian citizen co-signer on the lease. (Also not possible as we didn't know anyone in Canada) 3)Pay the first and last months rent up front with a letter from our employer in Canada showing our employment status and how much we were paid and proof that we received those paychecks into a Canadian bank account. The third was the only one we could do. We rented our apartment from a huge corporation so I don't know if it would have been different with a private landlord.
@@JasmineEMTrudeau Very interesting. We actually had to pay our first and half months rent as well as we had no line of credit built up in Canada yet. Hey Damian, Stephen here! So personally when I moved I found the rental market comparable if not slightly cheaper than what I was paying for in Dublin (Grand Canal Dock) BUT I know Vancouver ( where I live) has been pretty rough for people moving over during the last few months and prices have gone way up. If you're looking for shared accommodation though or willing to set aside anywhere from $2300-$2600 for a 1 bed place by yourself I'd imagine you'd be pretty safe just be careful with scams out there as there are many

Apple is terrible. They are setup so that once you subscribe it is so painful to unsubscribe that you just give up. I'm serious. In my experience it is so difficult to cancel an Apple subscription that I have vowed never to subscribe with them again for any service. I prefer Android anyway and almost any other Streamer.
If you're looking for a work reference try and get your employer to talk about how great and reliable you were while working for them, good time management, organized, took the initiative, whatever will make you look more appealing for a potential employer.
