theres no reason you can't already get longer trains onto the branch lines to bishop auckland and saltburn as the local trains use the same full length platforms that express services for the rest of the country use and it won't really increase capacity on the network as the most congested station in the north east and almost on the entire network is actually Durham with no option of upgrading that station or increasing platforms and as the lines between northallerton and durham run on 1 track in each direction the line cannot take anymore traffic anyway
