This was a hidden track on the ALTOGETHER dvd back in 2001, 11 years after the previous incarnation and 4 years before Dr Who became fashionable again.
A homage to Ron Grainer (who wrote the music!) And Deliah Derbyshire (who created the realization that would resonate through out homes in the UK every Saturday tea time! She became a big influence in electric music! Don't know why they had to change the theme tune as it doesn't sound out of place today it was well before its time back in 63! Now what do we have some squeaky keyboard
+Mike Gordon Delia Derbyshire is the acknowledged author of the piece according to Grainer, her process alone inseparable from the composition, in addition to orchestration and arrangement. It is, if anything based on 3 notes (1 mute) of an outline by Grainer.
For those of you who never saw the original series: the music up until 1:20 or so is (one of the) actual themes played over the original opening/closing credits.
In fact, this does NOT use one of the original themes from the start to 1.20, and any Whomosexual worth his or her salt will back me up on that. Orbital created every squeak and bleep of this thing. It is the almost total LACK of samples from any official theme that makes this stand out, actually.
takes me back to new years eve 1999 @ cream down at the pier thingy. still one of my all time fave nights out. 40 now.. married with kids... dont get out much so relive past glorys on the internet instead ;-)
deliah derbyshire when asked did she compose this, she said yes mostly, she was years ahead of the electronics world, i have her delian mode here, its worth digging out
Yeah, Mine love it too ! _In fact, they're currently hammering on the dividing wall in time to the beat!_ (Although, if I'm honest, their rhythm really does need some work.)
i keep thinking of Craig's little song on the late late show when i hear this. IT'S FUNNY, BUT I WANT TO THINK OF GLASTONBURY AND MATT SMITH WHEN I HEAR THIS.
480p=/=HD HD resolutions and sound on youtube only include 720p and 1080p The difference between the sound quality of 480p to 720p is about twice as much. UA-cam only encodes sound in two different qualities. 128kbps low quality streams, and 192kbps for high quality streams. This video reaches a max resolution of 480p meaning its max audio bit rate only reaches 128kbps. Not HD. Bad title. Please change the title or upload a video that is factually depicted in your title.
@ Frank Spencer!I think if you get yourself a decent phone or laptop you will find that it indeed can mean and usually does mean the soundtrack too, frank Spencer is far more switched on than you, don't make him sound simple please!
Amazing tune, almost brings a tear to my eye remembering being young and dancing to this.
This needs to be played on an uber system as loud as possible with a bass that throbs so hard it cracks concrete.
METAL1ON It's shaking the tiles in my drop ceiling right now. :D
+Tana Ross-Phalen +METAL1ON It is currently shaking the books off the shelves on the other side of the lounge.... of next door's house. ;)
This track loud and clear is awsome. I grew up loving the Dr Who intro anyway and then this came along. Gold

*5 years after the previous incarnation. Remember the 1996 TV movie with Paul McGann?

I've always heard good things, might be time to check it out.

I love this theim. It never gets old.. The new version sucks. They should use Orbital which I think they did at one point.
This is brilliant. I could definitely see some of the doctors getting their groove on to this while tresending time and space
deliah derbyshire when asked did she compose this, she said yes mostly, she was years ahead of the electronics world, i have her delian mode here, its worth digging out
This should be used as the theme tune from now on
Thank you Orbital for your hard work on this song. Love it.
The :D part cracked me up. Just burst into hysterical laugher...
best theme ever imo. Thank you for the good sound quality.
AWESOME as a Dr who fan I LOVE this thank you for upload
@METAL1ON it was hypnotic, blasted it out of a farm field, with a huge set up and rigging
this piece is epic. a doctor who movie should be made around it.
I soo love this song soo much!
This is crunchy. I love it.
Why dont they use this theme, gold has become tarnished
Gold has become the Disco Duck of the Doctor Who themes now, what with that last Capaldi theme abomination he did. He should f**k off with Moffat.
You have to actually plug the speakers into the computer in order for them to work. Without proper speakers you can't hear the track.
took this song to another lvl
My Neighbors Really Like This
Not their not darleks
Yeah,
Mine love it too !
_In fact, they're currently hammering on the dividing wall in time to the beat!_
(Although, if I'm honest, their rhythm really does need some work.)
roomates to me : "CAN YOU TURN THAT DOWN, ITS BEEN ON REPEAT FOR THE PAST WEEK!" me: "but it goes past 11!"
i keep thinking of Craig's little song on the late late show when i hear this. IT'S FUNNY, BUT I WANT TO THINK OF GLASTONBURY AND MATT SMITH WHEN I HEAR THIS.
I think the fanbase would be more if Orbital has "got hired" as it were - I was put off by the non-Orbital "new" theme.
This should be played at high volume, preferably in a residential area
My fave for long drives home in the middle of the night after a call-out :)
cool!!! it's Dr. What
theme tune
The spiral at the beginning of the video nearly hypnotised me to sleep
I have almost every possible good remix of the Doctor Who theme on my ipod, guess this need s to be added...
Even the Daleks dig this...
they used the orbital theme on the complete specials box set's 'planet of the dead' dvd in a trailer for the dvd's at the begining
Fantastic...!!!
Whooooooa that is a trippy picturre you used there broooo
no matter what i do, i can't escape the spiral...ahhh

Remember, you mustn't see the fnords!
Doctor Who and the Emoticon Vortex by Malcolm Hulke
