- Today I wanted to share the 5 handmade items that I have made myself for my wardrobe. I'm still a beginner sewer, but even I was surprised by how much I was able to sew with only beginner skills. I will also be doing a mini capsule wardrobe challenge with only the me made items to see how many outfit combinations I am able to come up with. I hope this inspires you to try your hand at sewing! You can do it too!
I forgot to mention that Elizabeth Suzann now has patterns that you can purchase from her website! I'll link them down below.

A novice? You sew briliantly. Keep it up. I'd love to see you tackle a coat.
Yes please! Share your sewing journey
I’ll put it on my to do list! 🥰
Would love to hear about it as well!
Wow, that dress is seriously classic
thank you Rebecca!
Time to fix my sewing machine and try to make something for myself! Great inspiration! They all look wonderful on you!
Thank you!! 🥰
I just had the one I inherited from my mom cleaned/tuned up. $60! I wasn't expecting that. Gotta get sewing!
Nice pieces, upscale and chic. I am inspired. ⭐️
Thanks so much 😊
Great makes, love working with linen. The dress is my favourite.
Thank you Lorraine! Now I'm inspired to start on my next project! 🥰
You made some lovely and comfy pieces val. You look so good in them all. They are all very flattering outfits. I used to sew back in the day. I loved making clothes for my kids.... especially the girl clothes. I pretty much gave up sewing after my fourth or was it my fifth baby. Lol. I ended up with 9 beautiful children and 3 foster kids. Yeah. Sewing took a back seat. Lol. My girls turned out very crafty tho and one of my daughters sews alot. She loves to remake vintage clothes into more modern styles. It is so fun to see them be creative. Thank you for sharing your story and your journey. Awesome content. Hugs to you.❤❤❤
Thanks for sharing your journey too Alma! Wow 9 children and 3 foster kids, yeah you must have been busy! 😊 I do find it hard to find the time to sew with 4 kids, but since I really enjoy it, I'm trying to make time for it.. That's so cool that you passed on your love for sewing to your daughter, you sound like a wonderful mother! 🥰
Wow these are all amazing. I love the dress and the pants. I wish i knew how to sew like you. Great video
Thanks so much 😊 You can totally do it too! I still really feel like a beginner 😅
I like the white top best and the pants are a close second! Congratulations. All of pieces look good on you.
Thank you Susan! 😊
Congrats!! 🎉 The first blouse and striped dress are my favorites. ❤️
Thank you Joy! 😊😊

Thank you! 😊
wow, Such beautiful essentials! :) I loved outfit 2 and 4, my dreaaams and making me want to grab my sewing machine right now:D thankyou!
Thank you Valerie! ❤
I’ve thought about sewing my own clothes but I’m not sure I have the patience for details that I assume is needed when sewing 😂!! Your clothes are great and linen is definitely the fabric I would choose too!!!
You can totally do it! 🥰
I am really enjoying all your content.
I’m so glad you found my channel! 🥰
So cool. Thanks for the links I'll definitely check those out
Yes check them out! 😀😀
I like your style. Nice job. You are inspiring me. I've been looking for a wedding guest dress & so hard to find, just the right thing, that is affordable.
Good luck with your channel. I have subscribed as
I like to see what other people like to sew.. you have a nice presence about you and I think you will be successful with your channel.

Nice! I'm also a seamstress 😊👍
That’s awesome! Were my sewing skills ok? 😅
@@ValKovalchuk Yes!!
Love!! Very cute style!
Thank you Heather! 😊
You are so talented! These pieces are beautiful.
Thank you so much!
Such an inspiring video. You look great in all the outfits. The dress is my favorite 😍
Thank you Renee! 😊
I love them all! Though see what you mean about the tweak adjustments to make them more perfect x
thank you! 🥰
Linen is a favorite of mine, but I do struggle to find it int the area of south Africa where I live. You did such a nice job on all the pieces.
Thank you! Are you able to have any delivered to you from an online store? I've only bought my fabric locally, but that may be an option to look into 😊
I love to sew too. These items look very nice. I usually sew shirts, skirts and dresses. Pants and blazers I rather buy
Yes the pants were the hardest to sew, but still ended up being easier than I thought it would be!
Hi Val, I have been enjoying your videos for the past month and was very excited to see that you read my mind and talked about your homemade items!! You really got a great fit on everything. Very inspiring. Thinking of setting up my sewing machine and getting back into it!
Thanks Patricia 😊 yes you should totally do it! Such a fun hobby isn’t it 🥰
Yay to sewing 🪡 🧵 ! You did so well :)
What a great way to make some unique high end prices for a fraction of the cost as well as enjoying yourself
Yes! Thank you!
You made some lovely pieces and styled them beautifully! You're such an inspiration, many thanks!
Thank you so much! 🥰
So cute!! I've been looking into sewing lately and hoping to buy a sewing machine soon to start practicing. Thanks for the pattern ideas and thanks for sharing!!
Go for it!
Fits not too bad on the crop tank! I have a large chest and if I don't add a dart it will not look right at all. I just put it on and cut where it's funny and fold/sew it.
Yeah I was thinking to take it apart and add darts, but that seems overwhelming right now 😅 Maybe later!
Great job!
Thank you! 😊
I have just started sewing in the past 6 months. I love it. Some items come out great and then others not so great. I am retired so I have plenty of time to practice. Love your makes ❤
Thanks for sharing! Some of mine are also hits and misses, but its such a fun hobby to keep learning! 😊
So cool that you can make your own clothes that look amazing for a fraction of the price! You go girl🙌!
Thank you!! 😊
What a lovely and inspiring video. I love all the outfits and pieces and I can definitely see myself in outfit number 4. The dress looks amazing! I am very curious about your sewing journey. Have a beautiful day!
Thank you Eva!! I hope you have a good day too 😊😊
Great job, I love the pieces you made!
Thank you! 😊
Wow love all the items - especially the dress. I keep thinking about making a few pieces like this as I’m finding it so hard to find good quality items that fit (I’m 5’6 and have a really short body, also a c section scar so where things sit and how they look on my body shape is so different to the standard models) since watching your videos I’ve moved to more natural fibres where I can afford it and sticking to an earth tone colour palette and it’s making my wardrobe and choices less stressful x
That's great to hear that your wardrobe has been less stressful lately! I also have a c-section scar that makes my lower abdomen puff out a little, so I can relate a bit to you. Have you sewed anything before? Its so nice to be able to control how low or high the rise is or where the waist is going to be. 🤗
@@ValKovalchuk I’ve sewn years ago and then odd craft pieces but never clothes for myself but I’m really motivated to give it a go. I especially find those linen dresses so comfy and forgiving and great for all weather. I’m also thinking of learning to knit - I love the shorter box style tops but can never seem to find any in shops. I find balancing my top and bottom tricky too - but gradually learning through your series or what I like and what I’m comfortable in and what works for a home educating mum of a little one. X
I want to try sewing soon and you have really inspired me! All these are the same pieces I want to make…so cool. You did amazing. I cannot wait to try. The crop is totally cute. Maybe you could still had small darts still? Keep it up! I want to know if you have recommendations for top quality midweight linen.
You can do it! And I just buy my linen at my local fabric store like Joanns. Not too picky about it 😅
What a good idea to make a pattern from a top you already had! I love the clothes you made! I made a white long shift maternity dress once from a linen fabric and I put a sash around the waist above my baby bump. Recently I got a kit from Etsy to sew a leather handbag that is like an hermes bag that I can’t afford, and that was really fun! My daughters helped with it too (:
That sounds like such a fun project! 🥰
🖐🏼🙂
Thanks for watching Maria! 😀
Can you let us know about how much it ended up costing per item? Also, I don’t know what linen to buy. I just picked up Elizabeth Suzann’s Florence pant pattern and I want to try the pant pattern you made. What fabric do you recommend? And what elastic did you buy and do you like how it fits/feels? Thanks!
I usually buy my linen at my local fabric store, here we have Joanns. and it usually comes out to around $15-$20 per project. I look for either a 100% linen or sometimes a linen/rayon mix. For the elastic I believe I used a 1.5in sturdy one and its held up well. Feels nice and thick. Hope that helps!
Am I the only one who is missing her fiddle leaf fig tree ?
😂 Sometimes I move it out of the way for outfit shots 🤣
And that being said.. your style is soo relatable to me.. I am a new mom and I am slowly trying to find my style with my new body and the moment you said Pyne and smith .. wow.. ( she really speaks me) because I own like a dozen of Pyne and smith dresses and I am not even kidding .. best dresses ever..
