  • Today I wanted to share the 5 handmade items that I have made myself for my wardrobe. I'm still a beginner sewer, but even I was surprised by how much I was able to sew with only beginner skills. I will also be doing a mini capsule wardrobe challenge with only the me made items to see how many outfit combinations I am able to come up with. I hope this inspires you to try your hand at sewing! You can do it too!
    I forgot to mention that Elizabeth Suzann now has patterns that you can purchase from her website! I'll link them down below.

    You made some lovely and comfy pieces val. You look so good in them all. They are all very flattering outfits. I used to sew back in the day. I loved making clothes for my kids.... especially the girl clothes. I pretty much gave up sewing after my fourth or was it my fifth baby. Lol. I ended up with 9 beautiful children and 3 foster kids. Yeah. Sewing took a back seat. Lol. My girls turned out very crafty tho and one of my daughters sews alot. She loves to remake vintage clothes into more modern styles. It is so fun to see them be creative. Thank you for sharing your story and your journey. Awesome content. Hugs to you.❤❤❤

      Thanks for sharing your journey too Alma! Wow 9 children and 3 foster kids, yeah you must have been busy! 😊 I do find it hard to find the time to sew with 4 kids, but since I really enjoy it, I'm trying to make time for it.. That's so cool that you passed on your love for sewing to your daughter, you sound like a wonderful mother! 🥰

    I’ve thought about sewing my own clothes but I’m not sure I have the patience for details that I assume is needed when sewing 😂!! Your clothes are great and linen is definitely the fabric I would choose too!!!

    Fits not too bad on the crop tank! I have a large chest and if I don't add a dart it will not look right at all. I just put it on and cut where it's funny and fold/sew it.

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  2 роки тому

      Yeah I was thinking to take it apart and add darts, but that seems overwhelming right now 😅 Maybe later!

    Wow love all the items - especially the dress. I keep thinking about making a few pieces like this as I’m finding it so hard to find good quality items that fit (I’m 5’6 and have a really short body, also a c section scar so where things sit and how they look on my body shape is so different to the standard models) since watching your videos I’ve moved to more natural fibres where I can afford it and sticking to an earth tone colour palette and it’s making my wardrobe and choices less stressful x

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  2 роки тому +3

      That's great to hear that your wardrobe has been less stressful lately! I also have a c-section scar that makes my lower abdomen puff out a little, so I can relate a bit to you. Have you sewed anything before? Its so nice to be able to control how low or high the rise is or where the waist is going to be. 🤗

      @@ValKovalchuk I’ve sewn years ago and then odd craft pieces but never clothes for myself but I’m really motivated to give it a go. I especially find those linen dresses so comfy and forgiving and great for all weather. I’m also thinking of learning to knit - I love the shorter box style tops but can never seem to find any in shops. I find balancing my top and bottom tricky too - but gradually learning through your series or what I like and what I’m comfortable in and what works for a home educating mum of a little one. X

    I want to try sewing soon and you have really inspired me! All these are the same pieces I want to make…so cool. You did amazing. I cannot wait to try. The crop is totally cute. Maybe you could still had small darts still? Keep it up! I want to know if you have recommendations for top quality midweight linen.

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  2 роки тому +1

      You can do it! And I just buy my linen at my local fabric store like Joanns. Not too picky about it 😅

  • @sherrylucas3888

    What a good idea to make a pattern from a top you already had! I love the clothes you made! I made a white long shift maternity dress once from a linen fabric and I put a sash around the waist above my baby bump. Recently I got a kit from Etsy to sew a leather handbag that is like an hermes bag that I can’t afford, and that was really fun! My daughters helped with it too (:

    Can you let us know about how much it ended up costing per item? Also, I don’t know what linen to buy. I just picked up Elizabeth Suzann’s Florence pant pattern and I want to try the pant pattern you made. What fabric do you recommend? And what elastic did you buy and do you like how it fits/feels? Thanks!

    • @ValKovalchuk
      @ValKovalchuk  Рік тому +1

      I usually buy my linen at my local fabric store, here we have Joanns. and it usually comes out to around $15-$20 per project. I look for either a 100% linen or sometimes a linen/rayon mix. For the elastic I believe I used a 1.5in sturdy one and its held up well. Feels nice and thick. Hope that helps!

      And that being said.. your style is soo relatable to me.. I am a new mom and I am slowly trying to find my style with my new body and the moment you said Pyne and smith .. wow.. ( she really speaks me) because I own like a dozen of Pyne and smith dresses and I am not even kidding .. best dresses ever..
