- The pilot for the 1972 game show Cop Out, with Geoff Edwards as host. With guest panelists Ann Elder, James Farentino, Michelle Lee, Bill Bixby, Lois Nettleton, Larry Hovis, Della Reese and Richard Dawson.
According to Geoff Edwards, the taping paused every ten minutes because all those lights were burning everyone's back. And then the controller broke down, forcing the technicians to manually remove lightbulbs to spell the words.
VTR 2/15/72 per Faber's "Television Game Show Hosts."
I would have loved to have watched this show.
What a cast: Bill Bixby, Richard Dawson, Lois Nettleton, Michele Lee and James Farentino.
They needed to change the set though. They apparently got 3rd degree burns on this show.
This is the second game show I've watched recently where Farentino and Lee both appear (the other was Celebrity Sweepstakes). So-so format here, but all the celebrities make it interesting. I think almost all of them appeared on Match Game at some point (except maybe Farentino).
Easy to see why this didn't get picked up. "Scoring?! What the devil is scoring?! Just make the one at the end of the line the only one that matters."
Show was hilarious.
The theme song to this show was used as the music to finish up each segment of "The New Treasure Hunt" and "Treasure Hunt." "Nothing left in the box."
Todd Wacha The more games shows I watch the more I notice that. Anything to cut costs........
Larry Hovis seemed annoyed being called "zany."
Celebrity Guests:
1. Ann Elder
2. James Farentino
3. Michelle Lee
4. Bill Bixby
5. Louis Nettleton
6. Larry Hovis
7. Della Reese
8. Richard Dawson
In the end, people came away with first and second degree burns on their backs.
Taped at CBS Television City in Hollywood.
The theme is titled "Mother Trucker", better served as the lead in music to the runner up prize fee plugs on The New Treasure Hunt.
Dickie Dawson was the best!! Period.
You would be Right You Are if you said that today 3/5 is the fourth anniversary of the Geoff Edwards appearance as a contestant on the March 5, 2014 episode of Celebrity BUcket Kickers.
I See Why Geoff Edwards Turned Down Hosting Family Feud Because I Think He Didn't Want To Work For Mark Goodson.
@@christopherslappey1681 Geoff remembered a recent show called the Neighbors, that didn't last very long, and thought Feud would be something along those lines.
Is this the first game show hosted by Geoff Edwards?
Dan Barker his first full time gig was Hollywood's Talking in 1973, and this predates that. This may be his first as I don't know of any other pilots he hosted before it.
Which was anticlimactic because everyone was speaking for themselves.
His first hosting position was on the local KNXT show "Lucky Pair" in the fall of 1968, and his first network show was Hollywood's Talking. He shot another pilot in 1971 entitled "Says Who?"
Geoff is uncharacteristically stiff in this.
This was only his second game show. The year before, he hosted another pilot, Says Who?, which didn't sell.
This is the weirdest, dumbest concept for a game show I've ever seen .No wonder it didn't get picked up
What a stupid show. Not surprised though being a Chuck Barris production.
I agree. This is a very weak pilot. Barris shows, in addition to being "off", were mean spirited, but I do enjoy watching The New Treasure Hunt.
