LEGO Particle Accelerator - Maximum Ball Trials

  • Trying to add as many balls as possible to my LEGO Particle Accelerator. For these tests I'm using a Power Functions M-Motor running at about 33 percent of max speed.
    The Particle Accelerator was part of the Bricklink Designer Program, but did not make it through the crowdfunding. Building instructions will be for sale at some point in the future.

    I’m glad to hear you will be making instructions for sale for the improved set you submitted for the Bricklink Designer Program. I backed the set and was disappointed it wasn’t selected. Looking forward to my Pursuit of Flight set in 2022.

    Large circular particle accelerators are usually fed by synchronized pulsed linear particle accelerators. Building a mechanical timing system purely with LEGO is left as an exercise for the viewer.
    The next step is add stations where the particle beam can be redirected towards experimental targets.

    I wonder if you could do something cool with this for a GBC module. Have a ramp or gate or something that will redirect the balls back into the accelerator until they have enough speed, at which point they launch off or break through into the next module.

    It’s obvious, 61 is the critical mass limit before spontaneous fission. 62 is rumored to create a black brick that will consume an entire set, but it’s all theory so far.

    If you had a system to load balls and made it so the balls were going around a thin ledge so balls that would cause a pileup instead fall down and are redirected toward a lift system to be put back into the system then you could theoretically reach a higher amount of balls in the loop because the balls that don't make it in or are starting to pileup just fall down and are directed towards a system for returning them to the loading mechanism

  • @INSIDEHARDWARE
    @INSIDEHARDWARE 2 роки тому +3

    Could be neat to see an auto feeder mechanism. With variable feed rate.
    Then convert this into a GBC module. Ehh? Ehh?

    To prevent jamming, I'd add the balls in after the motor to allow more time for the balls to get in place after the first one is in. If possible, increasing the speed of the motor too.

  • @chrisw4997
    @chrisw4997 2 роки тому +3

    I nearly fell asleep, that sound was so theraputic! What would happen if you lined up all the balls and then turned on the motor, maybe aiding the other balls for the first couple of circuits?

  • @huatseng6037

    Notified me and my mind read it as "adding Balls to all Particle" 😂😂😂😂😂

  • @richardgreenleaf3259
    @richardgreenleaf3259 2 роки тому +1

    I know it's supposed to accelerate the balls as they go through each station, butis it just me or do they also accelerate with each ball added? At least until they reach a point where there's so many balls that adding a new one becomes difficult. Seemed to me once the first ball that kept getting denied was added all the rest had hit a maximum speed.

    Maybe you can improve on the design. The LHC has two counterrotating beams to double the energy of the collisions and in case of emergencies, or to just stop the beam it has a "beam-dump" (those super fast particles have to be stopped safely!)
