Nice work! Maybe my favorite Queen song. The best studio representation of them as a band. The most aggressive John Deacon performance in the studio IMHO. A good tempo on these live rendition(s) other recordings it loses some of its power where it is sped up. Best live vocal renditions I've heard!
1. Best Queen song and my favorite song 2. Best live version is hard to decide on, since the Japan shows have cracked instrumental performances, Freddie sounds like shit. The NOTW versions sound wonderful vocally, but the Jazz versions sound better instrumentally. It's really up to whichever you prefer more. 3. I'd use the 2nd Japan show for "Turning my mind away". Freddie sings it like the alternative take which is cool imo.
I heard the turning my mind away phrasing, it's rather unique but I didn't like it too much. Even if I did, I would still not use it as I would rather stick to the more studio-loyal intro. Vocally, I'd pick Copenhagen as the best at the moment, there's a chance my opinion might change to one of the London 78 gigs or the top-tier NA versions.
@@luuulu9355 Copenhagen slaps, but I keep coming back to Stockholm since he nails the sickly pride line. Shame he fucks up the rest of the song though.
@@MrFusion There are a small number of versions that I come back to because of the moments where he nailed a line only once like Detroit's even now the feeling line, Copenhagen's time to set me free line, and etc. I wonder if there's a version that would have most, if not all of those lines nailed.
@@luuulu9355 probably one of the earliest versions like Boston or Providence. Freddie seems to go for a lot of lines on the first few shows on a tour and then figures out which ones to avoid singing or that he can't sing nightly, like Sweet Lady, Rock It, Action This Day, and A Kind Of Magic. I'd kill for Boston or Providence to show up one of these days, as I'm sure they'd be fucking crazy vocally.
@@MrFusion Same, I read the description of Ryan's video on Providence 78 which stated that there's tapes for both (one Races one and NOTW) Providence 77 shows which unfortunately would probably never see the light of day for at least a long time, and its a bit painful knowing that a tape of a show you want to hear exists but it is probably never going to be released. I wonder if any other pre-Detroit shows will ever get confirmed to have existing tapes.
It's hard to disagree with, Freddie's remaining strong and powerful throughout the whole song and even nailed the time to set me free line. The rest of the band are superb as expected from the show.
Best Jazz tour It’s Late: 1. Barcelona 2/20/79 2. Chicago 78 3. Lyon 79 All of these had Freddie holding up well and the rest of the band on fire; also New York 11/16 & 11/17 78 and Zurich 79 are also great Jazz tour versions
1. The Inglewood part idk if I'm looking at it right but if you're talking about the "HELP but hear you say" part, I think he did that quite a bit on some shows like Philadelphia 77 if I'm hearing it correctly. 2. Nishinomiya's NIH intro is beautiful to listen to but this version is generally meant to be a bit more loyal to the studio so I kept the original intro the way it was. Vanilla is sometimes nice to have you know.
@@Bike-ud3fg I might make a small remaster because of the intro. Brian on the Japanese leg (maybe the Euro leg as well) of the Jazz Tour, experimented with the intro and it came out very nicely. Vanilla with sprinkles, probably... Nothing much but you have something to possibly look up to.
Probably one of Brian’s best songs ever!
Great Job!
Thanks, and it's undoubtedly the best Brian song ever.
Amazing
Love this song

I personally think Copenhagen is the best

Can u give some good rendition of this song in Jazz tour, both vocally and instrumentally
I was actually thinking about making something similar to that, It's Late but more Jazz Tour vocals and stuff.
Best Jazz tour It’s Late:
1. Barcelona 2/20/79
2. Chicago 78
3. Lyon 79

If landover had all the chorus A4’s hit (good btw) it would be the best of all time
Would've definitely been a very superb version!
I have sugesstion: Nishinomiya 82 has It's Late intro reference on NIH and it's best intro of it

This was recorded with a potato attached to a string.... little known fact.
The sound quality on this is absolutely atrocious
