I am 30 and have been experiencing this monthly for years. I appreciate the thorough education of what's physically going on with my eye when this occurs.
I would not have discovered this video if it were not for my sudden loss of vision in my right eye. Thank you for sharing your knowledge to help me further understand possible causes behind my symptoms.
Excellent presentation! I’m experiencing this phenomenon ever since I had cataract surgery three weeks ago. Your video is the most informative information I found anywhere thus far. Thank you!
This happened to me 2 weeks ago and seeing the specialist Monday. Left eye went totally blurry, even unable to read with a magnifying glass. Really liked watching you with my right eye. Will sound a little clued up tomorrow at least, thanks to you
I am a medical student and I absolutely love not only your approach to teaching but also how well you explain some very complex concepts! More power to you!
I’ve suffered from this for years. Sometimes on a weekly basis. Changed my diet 8yrs ago to keto. Completely stopped blindness . Took about two years tho .
Hi Margaret, did you manage to find out what the exact cause of it was? I've experienced this too during a very stressful period. It passed quickly so I didn't see a doctor, I didn't even knew it was a diagnosis. Diet was pretty balanced but I think my blood pressure was not ok.
It happened to me 13 times this year. it only lasted a few minutes ago that it goes black in my left eye. Usually when I have fatigue and also pins and needles in most parts of my body. As well as not been able to move my leg for at least 30 minutes in the morning, and sometimes last an hour, as well as constantly feeling weak. It all seems connected and has been getting worse
I Love the way you present your information. I have a problem with one of my eyes...from 20/20 to suddenly legally blind in that eye and still undiagnosed, even though I have been seeing an Opthamologist for about a year and have had testing at the local hospital. No diagnosis yet...I am now asking to be referred to an Eye Institue with a very good reputation in a city near me.....this is very scary. Anyway, you made this so much easier to understand and I Really appreciate that. Thank You!
I had an aortic dissection two months ago. I had an aneurysm in my ascending arch that was replaced with a fabric sleeve and a graft on mr femoral artery. When discharged I had several short episodes of vertigo that was explained as possible residual effects from the anesthesia (6.5 hour surgery) or possibly micro emboli going through my blood vessels of my eyes. I was told to see an ophthalmologist and they said there was no evidence of stroke and he said it would have been more concerning if I had lost partial vision in one or both eyes. Well, two weeks ago I lost the bottom half of my vision in only my left eye for 1-2 mins, no other symptoms, it was like a straight horizontal line across the middle and everything below was dark. I called the ophthalmologist back and they told me to come in right then, tests showed nothing different accept because noted something very tiny that he saw the first time and said it’s possible there is a very small arterial occlusion in my left eye and he refereed me to a retinal specialist who looked closer at it and agreed it looked occluded but said that tiny artery would have been responsible for the top part of my vision, not the bottom. They did a dye neon test and it showed that it went through the occluded artery just fine so he said whatever happened is before the eye and said to see my cardiologist. I did and he said it sounds like I had a TIA, made a bunch of orders for different tests and sent me to see a neurologist who then said he’s not convinced it was a TIA, ordered an MRI and said I shouldn’t be too worried about it. The waiting game of these dates is hard thinking about what could happen in that timeframe.
Ugh. This is very frustrating to me as I am experiencing something similar and while my doctor indeed looked worried and ordered tests for me, I cannot get in to see the retina specialist for two weeks. 💔💔
My friend totally lost her vision in both eyes for one day and the tow doctors who examined her said “there is no clear reason for this to happen !! Although it might be a stroke but nothing shows it for sure and it might happen again , try to relax and avoid stress “ can anyone please help ?
hello guys im a male 20 years of age this happened to me today in my right eye. complete loss of vision for a few minutes i do admit i do drink and smoke. in addition i have been losing weight been really stressed. Can anyone please tell me whats going on would really appreciate it its so scary and the fact im 20 makes it worse i feel trapped i really cant explain how it feels. It really does break my heart
I had a binocular amaurosis fugax that lasted about 10 minutes, I was only 20 years old. My vision was pitch black and slowly came back in the ambulance. Fast forward 35 years and I’m blind in one eye from a retina detachment. Five years later my neurologist said that my brain MRI showed thinning of both optic nerves. Ironically I am a retired optician
I had NO pain! Came on suddenly! But I had a warning same event but eye came back few weeks/months b4 the big event which is why I initially dismissed it's emergency!!
I had a double occlusion in the central field in1eye over a year ago now. Vasculitis from an inflammatory disease autoimmune supposedly. It did start as an appearance of a migraine. I wish I'd know u don't get migraine in1 eye! It was the artery and the vein that occluded
So I’m 15 and it can happen randomly but I have seen a Trend of when I’m exercising both my eyes slowly turn off and I can’t hear ether I can’t find anything about it any help!
Hey! I'm 24 and I have that problem for the last 8 years! I found out it has something to do retinal thinning which force me to switch up my glasses 😅 lowering the power on this one side
I think i could hav been injected in2my eye with steroids but I was left in accident and emergency almost 8hrs until an eye department opened in morn as it happened at night! I had vision for hours in hosp til it went black after hrs I was left as it was treated as a migraine! Dublin Ireland public health patient

Been losing peripheral vision in my eyes or sometimes one eye for about 10 to 15 mins at a time for the last year. My doctor seems to think it may be due to micro vascular disease. I'm not even 40 yet I did have a TIA a few years ago in my early 30s that did include visual disturbance. I hade uncontrolled hypertension for many years prior to all of it due to not being able to afford doctor visits. Take care of yourself it's very weird to lose part of you vision. It registers as just parts of things that aren't there part of a word or maybe you stick your hand out and can't see like it isn't there very strange sensation especially when you continue to see everything else. I also get like a rainbow static that takes the place of the missing vision sometimes also very strange. I hope to find a way to heal myself and stop this but micro vascular disease runs in my family.
Thank you very much. I am a laymen trying to learn as much as possible about Amaurosis Fugax. I have blockage in my right internal carotid artery. This is the kind of plaque Moderate heterogeneous irregular, calcified and shadowing plaque at origin. Do you think you can do a you tube on this type of plaque. Thank yoy
@@raziel9960 guyyyss it happens to me also did you find out thé reason my vision randomly goes black for less then a second for 3 times a day or more it's freacking scary !!
Wonderful explanation - thank you so much Sam! I found your video after researching my own experience last week - a bit scary, I must say - of several bouts over a few days of transient, painless, visual loss with no additional symptoms. I'm intrigued to hear your thoughts on other causes of transient venous/arterial blockage. In particular, could cranio-cervical instability (I've poor posture from severe pectis excavatum condition) cause grey- or black-out of part of peripheral vision in one eye only for 1-10 minutes at a time and recur several times over a couple of days, due to pinched artery, vein or nerve? I've not experienced before and I'm 56. No history of (painful) migraine; stroke and retinal abnormality ruled out through eye examination; seizure, e.g., occipital epilepsy still to be explored.
Excellent presentation for a very complex and complicated issue. I'm still struggling to find the actual causative factor... unfortunately it is most likely an occlusion in the retinal artery and there's no real direct treatment
I am currently experiencing a list of vision for about 12 days now I have been to the ER where they checked my heart and said it looks good and they did an MRI and didn’t find anything wrong . The next day I went to the opthamologist and he said he doesn’t see anything wrong . And it appears that I my optic nerve is fine . He said that youth is on my side because I am 33 he said he thinks the best thing I can do is give it time . He recommend I got to the neuropathy eye doctor . Do you think I will heal with time ?
I have temporary complete blindness in both eyes…I’ve had it for 10 years now, it comes on completely random, and can happen many times in an hour or daily, there’s no pattern to it.. when it happens I have no warning, in my head my eyes flick to the left, straight to the right then forward..whilst my eyes are flicking I cannot see anything no shadows nothing at all, then when they flick forward I can see again.. it lasts seconds, have you heard of this before please xxx
My favorite visual disturbance has to be a Posterior Cerebral Artery (PCA) stroke. The defining feature is one-sided hemianopia (half visual field loss) with macular sparing. So much functional anatomy in this one condition. A close second is bitemporal hemianopia.
I'm 29 now, very fit and relatively healthy, I experienced complete vision loss just 3 months ago, I was after being out the night before but did not drink much, I got up after several hours sleep, after 1 minute I completely lost my vision in both eyes for 20 to 30 seconds, still have no idea what it is, it was almost complete darkness but could not see anything at all, I thought I was going to be blind forever, I was extremely pale when I went out to the kitchen to tell my family, they mentioned, they didn't really know at the time when I said blind I meant completely, they just suspected I meant blurry vision Does anyone knows what I should do or what tests exactly to ask my doctor to carry out?
Sir, today i faced temporary blindness after hitting my knee a little too hard on a metal bench my both eye vision went total white and my vision was recovering slowly after 1-2minutes my vision recovered The process was painless i tried to walk while my vision was recovering and everything went absolute bright again after i washed my face my vision was fully recovered it took around 5 minutes to recover.Sir please tell me is it a big problem i am into boxing and karate stuff will it affect my performance if someone hit my knee too hard again should i quit and physical activity.Thank you love from India 🇮🇳

Hi, Matt. My mother is experiencing the same issues after having cataract surgery. Were you able to find the issue with your vision loss?
