Some criminals unlawfully enter homes with the intention to rape and/or murder the occupants. Also, it's not uncommon for an intruder who's committing a b&e to shoot an unarmed occupant(s) in the process. The occupant doesn't have to brandish a gun for this to happen. There have been many instances where an armed burglar breaks into a home and the occupant instinctively attempts to defend themselves (and possibly their family) without a gun and they get shot during the altercation. Burglars also shoot out fear, and shear adrenaline, because of the intensity of the situation. Also, guns have been known to accidentally go off during residential robberies. The intruder might see an occupant of the home and because of poor lighting mixed with adrenaline, they might think they see a gun in the person's hand, when infact it's just a phone. Furthermore, even if an armed intruder has no intention of killing someone and just wants to rob the residence that doesn't mean that an innocent resident won't be shot and killed in the process for the reasons I stated above (and many more).

Being responsible with a gun increases the chance of my family and I not being killed or worse by home invaders who break in knowing someone is home and not caring. Just look at the Carr brothers and what they did. Lots of other good examples of the same. Not wanting to be targeted or killed by someone does not equal wanting to hurt or kill someone. It also doesn’t equal misuse of that firearm. If that was true the millions of guns in this country would equal millions of accidents with them. The numbers aren’t even close.

Some criminals unlawfully enter homes with the intention to rape and/or murder the occupants. Also, it's not uncommon for an intruder who's committing a b&e to shoot an unarmed occupant(s) in the process. The occupant doesn't have to brandish a gun for this to happen. There have been many instances where an armed burglar breaks into a home and the occupant instinctively attempts to defend themselves (and possibly their family) without a gun and they get shot during the altercation.
Burglars also shoot out fear, and shear adrenaline, because of the intensity of the situation. Also, guns have been known to accidentally go off during residential robberies. The intruder might see an occupant of the home and because of poor lighting mixed with adrenaline, they might think they see a gun in the person's hand, when infact it's just a phone. Furthermore, even if an armed intruder has no intention of killing someone and just wants to rob the residence that doesn't mean that an innocent resident won't be shot and killed in the process for the reasons I stated above (and many more).
