    I watched Greg LeMond race here when he was about 16. Greg n his 37 year old dad took off the front early by themselves vs Cat 1 racers. After about a lap or two Greg's dad couldn't hold his sons wheel. I saw Greg look over his shoulder n see his dad about 8 feet back n saw Greg ease up. His dad just waved his hands n yelled, "Go Greg, go!" Greg put his head down with his classic sway motored away. The closest the chase pack ever got to Greg was about 1/4 mile before he motored away back to about a half mile lead which he held all the way to the finish line. His riding reminded me of way "The Cannibal" Eddy Merckx used to ride in the late 60's n early 70's.

    Love the format. Obviously even better when there are two cameras/overlays to bounce back and forth from but having a perspective from two different teams and rider types is awesome. Jeff, your one brief appearance and attempt at sag climbing the hill was great for a guy like me to see as I'm way bigger than my competition. Its good to know that it's not about hitting the hill with speed but rather just hitting the hill first/early. Let others close any gaps but no point going into the red right at the beginning of what will be an effort that might get your dropped even when fresh.

    • @NorCalCycling
      @NorCalCycling  5 років тому +4

      I don't think Chris was expecting them to lead him out, but other tactics are much more effective when you have the numerical advantage. For example, why not attack from the back of the group, and come by the front with some speed? much harder to chase and much more annoying for chris. just dropping your teammate off the front can end up biting you in the ass: ua-cam.com/video/YIkm-8uGhPU/v-deo.html go to 5:35

    • @carlosflanders518

      Super Bushleague seems a bit strong. Would have thought it seems obvious to let your teammate roll off the front and see what happens. Looks to me that they did it a bit late though. They did force Chris to chase. Maybe he would have won otherwise. But yeah, attacking from behind seems like a better approach when you have the numbers.

    BTW, at the end there, when he cut wide left for a sec to then go under to the right.... were you having to look back over your right shoulder in case the guy on your wheel filled that gap before you cut back to the right??

    Yeah fun format. You raced it well ...Those guys had 3 and they had to try and pull out anyone with legs left in the group with that tactic at the end. it's not chumpy its what you do to win when you have the numbers at the end of race and they won.. Girkins with the counter after your chase was clever but lacked original punch. I say stay on the wheel instead of swinging wide left for the final right turn, stay in draft, put some pressure on your race wheels with race tires to turn hard right and flick around at the end and you have it.

  • @fgv3357

    I'm seeing constant speedsover 30mhp, thats over 48kmh.
    My top speed ever on my vintage bike is 40kmh and thats going downhill.. with a 46 tooth chainring and a 14 cassette.
    I recently upgraded my bike, it's still not a road bike,but i used to do 16km in 1r 30min. And now in just 50min. So i think getting a proper rb would cut even more time for me.

    How is letting your teammate's wheel go a bush league move? World tour pros do that at the end of races all the time.

    • @connorspencer4283
      @connorspencer4283 4 роки тому

      Thank you! They literally only won because of that move. Chris had to do an 800-watt effort with less than 1k to go to close it which is probably what cost him the win in the sprint.

    14:35. I’m trying to soak up as much from these videos as I can, and they’re super helpful for developing race craft. But I don’t get it: why “super Busch league”? There’s a team out east here that rolls up 5 deep every week and basically plays some variety of this tactic. They have the numbers, so they send one, everybody else chases, they send another - rinse and repeat. It sucks for us but it works for them. Keep in mind, this is Cat 4 - so maybe that’s a classless way of racing? I don’t know. Could you elaborate, Jeff? I mean, if it gets it done, is legal, and makes others work harder, isn’t that what we would do/want to do if we had the numbers? They won last week with this exact faux-tempo and roll scenario.

    In a few videos recently you've mentioned about race etiquette and not interfering with the chase when a team mate is up the road. Last night I had a real problem during a crit with a team doing exactly that all race. Tried giving them a bit of smack talk to get out of the way but there wasn't much I could do. There were no other teams present with the same numbers.
    Any tips on dealing with this? Is the only option to try and attack it myself and bridge across?

    • @chriswitek9455
      @chriswitek9455 5 років тому +2

      i mean its the polite thing to do but you and other riders/your team mates have to just not let them in. dont let them get in the line and push your way through it yourself. if someones breaking up your chase effort its on you to prevent that. bridging is one thing, keeping the line super tight and forcing them to stay out is another

    • @NorCalCycling
      @NorCalCycling  5 років тому +2

      Don't attack it and try to bridge across unless you know for sure you can make it. They are not breaking the rules by disrupting the chase, you just have to pretend that they aren't there and get around them so they don't slow things down.

    • @ryanspivey2453
      @ryanspivey2453 5 років тому +2

      Lolz. Maybe Chris had no business being there at the finish and only got there thanks to the aero benefits of his Venge, plus the Venge is stiffer and would've transferred his sprint effort into speed better than the Tarmac? See how stupid that sounds? You're taking a race that plays out over miles with drafting, tactics, fatigue coming in, let alone fitness to start with and basing winning and losing off of grams. Maybe the other guy was running a waxed chain? Maybe he had a ceramic bottom bracket or OSPW? There are a million variables but rim brake people always think it comes down to brake type.

    • @carefulsum
      @carefulsum 5 років тому

      @@ryanspivey2453 While I do believe the rider element is the most important part of winning or losing, that doesn't mean having a possible edge at the precise critical moment doesn't pay dividends. It looked like Chris had it won (he even states it in the video) and I couldn't help but ponder if Sam's amazing burst of speed come from behind win was contributed even if marginally to having a lighter and stiffer bike (Tarmac using fact 12r carbon is actually stiffer than Venge's fact 11r carbon). I only mentioned rim vs disc brakes only because rim brakes are still currently lighter than discs.

    • @ryanspivey2453
      @ryanspivey2453 5 років тому +1

      @@carefulsum I get that at that moment, the difference may have been the grams or your point about the stiffness. But again, maybe Chris would've been 2 minutes back had he been riding a less aero Tarmac rather than the Venge. You can't isolate the entire race down to the last 50 meters and point to the brakes as being the difference. The rider's weight, power outputs, CDA, tactics, etc. would all have to be identical and even then, it could've come down to the line they took into the finish. As Chris mentions, he thought he had enough at the end but probably should've caught a fraction of a draft for the first pedal stroke or two. The weight of the brakes is so far down the list of things that matter in this video.
