A little friendly cat advice: Cats really don't like their food and/or water near their litter box. It can cause them to eat and drink less and be more reluctant to use the litter box. Love the bus and video!
I learned this from my sister. She also told me to put the water bowl another place away from the food, and now, my cat drinks so much more. Funny how these little things makes so much difference.

9/10 build. Only thing i expected but you didn't are solar panels and solar power system, but you gotta sacrifice the roof deck, but also i think the roof deck doesn't have to be the full leght of the bus, could be just 1/3, the rest can be for solar panels
@@ChayDenne appreciate it! we were crushing it 2 years ago and then took a year long break and now we are dead in the water haha all good though, having fun!
As a heavy duty diesel tech, I too was looking at all of these comments from people that don't know what they are talking about shaking my head lol. You were right on all accounts for what you said and the reasoning was sound. You were right that you could have gone lighter and it would have helped a ton, but it is not the end of the world and these heavy duty vehicles and their beefed up systems are meant to run with a huge amount of weight for 10-12 hours strait a day and not even turn off the engine unless you are doing maintenance or fueling up. You did a fantastic job on this build and it looks amazing. Honestly the only thing I would have personally done differently was a slightly shorter roof raise by about 6 inches just to clear more of the bridges at least in my area and make it a little less nerve racking lol but I much say this is the first time I have seen a bus/van build and it truly looks like a house once you get inside. Like, you close that door, and you are no longer in a bus, you are in a super luxurious shotgun style tiny home. Well done. One question I do have is in a more off grid situation, with the (amazing btw) showers and all of the lighting, how long does a tank of water and the battery bank typically last you? Or is this more used as a camper instead of a full time home on the road? Again, truly amazing build.
your comment made my day, thank you so much!! it means alot to have a diesel tech approve of our work- also reassuring after reading some of the more negative comments lol 😂 to answer your question, the 100gal of fresh water will last me about 3 days if im quick taking daily showers... the battery bank (not using any ac) will last about 24-36 hours depending on how frugal i am. (this is where the opening windows and ceiling fan REALLY pay off) if im using ac on eco mode and have all the lights on, i could probably get about 6 hours out of it.... however at fast idle, the secondary Alternator i added will charge a completely dead battery bank in about 4 hours! my now fiancé and I use the bus mostly as a tiny home though with city water and 60 amp power supply with a septic system for sewage. Whenever we do take it out, we usually are only about 4-6 hours away at a campsite with power provided again, thanks for your message man, made my day
@@guyod1 That all depends on the vehicle. Most heavy duty trucks (at least here in the US) have a system to dump the air out of the rear bags lowering the rear when hooking up to a trailer. And most city style/transit busses do have a system to lower either the front, back, or the entire bus to make it easier for people to get in and out at a bus stop. But for school buses, they are usually not equipped with that kind of feature due to them being made to just simply transport a ton of kids 2 times per day with very few features and comforts for as little as possible. You can buy systems to retrofit this on this bus fairly easily as I have done it but it all depends on the amount of money you want to spend for how inclusive and easy the kit actually is.
Honestly, after watching a LOT of Tiny/ Camping Van/Bus Houses, this is one the best Camper Bus i've ever seen, it is fully functional, and it's like as what you said HOUSE... i love the Shower/Toilet area, but my favorite part is The CAT AREA, since i have a cat.
As a supplement to your off-grid power supply, I would recommend checking out what’s called an APU. They’re basically small generators that can also run a/c units, but at a fraction of the fuel that your main engine uses while idling. Considering that you’re burning through about $20 in diesel for every 8 hours that you’re idling that bus, it can be a huge savings. And as a plus, the APU can be connected to your existing fuel tank so that you don’t have to worry about keeping it filled up.
My mind is completely blown, Chay, this might be the most ambitious self-build I've ever seen, and I've been watching tiny builds, conversions and renovations for decades; you've done a phenomenal, absolutely astronomical job, beyond words, well done, enjoy the time ahead!

Chay, would consider just slamming a battery operated smoke detector in the battery compartment. Stands to reason something could happen to the bms and a relatively cheap but effective backup warning device would be great. I can't fault your position, weight on the rear axles is actually fantastic for driving and general stability, just stay safe brother.

@@ChayDenne Interesting! It looks like it's very situation dependent, but yeah, in certain circumstances it tracks. Speaking of, what's the "local" campground you go to in some videos (like the $1,000 truck camper vid)? You mentioned it was about 30 minutes from Greer.
I watched the video and I liked how you turned the bus into a comfortable home but the highlight was the finished touch of proposing to your long time gf ..... It was awesome and I got teary eyed from how you did it! Congratulations and enjoy your lives and the bus together!
Treated wood is treated for rot caused by ground contact. That’s it. You need to coat that wood with something that will repel water. Obviously UV shouldn’t be an issue. Cool build!
Love the deck, but I'm sure you can figure a way to get some solar panels up on that rig so even when your not driving, you can still get some power to those batteries. Other than that, great build, and I hope you and your fiance are happy together for a long time.😊
This is an absolutely amazing build! Thank you so much for the detailed video. One tip that will save you years of headaches over bugs - get screens on all of your windows! Learned that one the hard way. ❤ safe travels
If/when you need to redo the grout, use a flexible grout that’s made to move without cracking. Not sure if they have a flexible thin set, but if so that would be ideal. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt there is a flexible thin set, but you never know what’s out there.
Home Depot has the silicone based grout in calking tubes and a thin set formulated to expand and contract with temperature so that tiles won't come loose.
It's amazing how you two guys are three guys at your dad too how you turn that old school bus into such a beautiful home in that bathroom with real tile even I don't have tile just to make it look like tile but it's already peeling I don't know what it is. I'm in a studio apartment. And that engagement up on the top that was and that was beautiful in this whole video was amazing thank you so much it made in 90 year old very happy living in Southern California all my life retired nurse.🤩🤩
U should do a video on how u made the Jack's to raise the roof. Even if it's just drawing in paper to explain it if u don't have the footage to teach how it was done
Pointing out that the interior is likely to fall apart and that it’s possibly way to heavy to be on lots of road is completely fair. These are legitimate concerns.
Awesome build. 🤙🏼 I'll suggest two things and that is to install a SMOKE and CARBON MONOXIDE detector. (And if you already have these disregard this comment)
Those cabinets at 22:55 would probably be better as slide-in cabinets instead of the regular drawers so it doesn't hit the fan hahaha but i love the changes! and the cat nook is perfect!
You your family and friends did a beautiful job in the bus, love it ! You should move your laundry soap away from your food, the chemicals in them will get in and make you sick. It's better to be safe than sorry.
Paying attention to only the GVWR is not sufficient. This bus has not only a raised roof, but then it has a lot of additional weight thrown up that high. Not only with the deck, but also the interior ceiling. Every pound up there is 10x worse than the water tanks, for example.
It'll be just fine man, double Decker buses are very common, and those are made to hold hundreds of people. This bus can handle it, and obviously is currently not having any issues.
@@cameronbarber3768 Yes, of course there are busses designed for that type of load. That does not mean that this bus was designed for that. The fact that it has non tipped over yet is hardly reassuring.
If you take into consideration the frame, wheels, tires, fuel tank, water tanks, floor tile, appliances, generators, batteries, brake assemblies and engine I think the last thing he has to worry about is being top heavy but thanks for trying to find something negative. Love love love this build.57,000$ is amazing in itself.
@@candxn3019 Engineering and safety requires doing the calculations. I do not see the point of loving this build when the designers have provided insufficient evidence that this can be safely operated on the highways.
Just a little tip, a cat would rather go thirsty and get dehydrated than drink water that is too close to their litter box. It’s best to move their bowl away from that little room.
This bus is so cool I showed it to my whole family and they all loved it! What other projects are you going to make after this? You guys are awesome I cant wait to see your 1 million subscriber play button!
your my hero bro... i'm an old schooler and used to have the energy that you have but still appreciate innovation.. AWESOME .. i wish a greater word was made because its just that
For those thinking making one 2.0 Bus. 1. Use a wind break and auto jacks when lifting a roof. 2. Install at least 4 Solar Panels 3. Use stamp steel and fiber insulation. Not spray foam 4. Composing toliet, recycle water shower, Maxx vent fans 5. Could try to convert to biogas or veggie oil to run clean overall chay build is 7.5/10. at 300k bus for 75k-100k aint bad
As a pc person, I just recommend propping it up a little bit with some kind of stand or something simple, with it being on carpet is will suck up a lot of dust and strain it for air. Love the bus, keep it up!
Awesome build? Did you ever consider putting solar panels for power on the roof rather than using the engine, and if so why did u choose not to use solar?
I would say it's probably because they already have plenty of power options and as he mentioned in the video they usually use city power provided at campsites anyway so solar panels would probably be super overkill. Though that doesn't mean it can't be an additional option in the future.
Amazing job, let me congratulate you on it first. I had a few questions from the first vid, which were satisfied in this one. First I was concerned about decision to put every heavy thing on port side, however since you’re about a third away from maximum load it should be fine. Suspension should be able to handle uneven weight distribution. Second was electrics, specifically batteries placed in bedroom. Now I feel you’ve addressed it in a fairly rational way - emergency exit, fire extinguishers and monitoring should keep you safe. Allow me to make a couple suggestions. One is to install a gas sensors in bedroom, if not already. They’re relatively cheap and will allow you to monitor CO/CO2 levels. Some combined systems can even measure multiple things like temperature, humidity, ozone and oxygen levels, as well as air quality index. But most importantly they have built-in alarm. Two are ventilation ducts with condensation canal. Even in a big house you need it to be about 6cm in height to work if I remember correctly. Since you have flat sealing in part and roof is just right there, you can run a couple of them in between. Warm air naturally goes up into them, roof provides temperature gradient so vapor can naturally condense inside and drip down to canals to be expelled outside. Helps with dehumidification a lot. House I’m renting now has flat roof over the kitchen and only general ventilation, which makes dehumidifier run almost 24/7/365. While in bedroom has proper set up present and it works perfectly - maintaining comfortable 52% all year round without any help. Hope it could be useful, but probably for renovation or for later projects. It was truly a pleasure, thank you for sharing!
I wasn’t one of the people that spoke about the batteries under the bed. However you mentioned if anything happens you can get out the window. Is that window big enough for your wife to be, to get out if she is pregnant ? Thanks for giving a more in depth tour of this amazing build. Much success to you both.
Why didn’t you use a generator like your last bus? And you should put solar panels on the roof so you can always charge your batteries so you have infinite life on them
Guy, you rock!!!! When I win the lottery I will hire you to get exactly the same one. It’s wonderful!!!! Nothing came out wrong. Congratulations to all the people made this beautiful project possible. And your girlfriend and you enjoy to the fullest and be so happy. ❤️❤️❤️
Such an amazing build and congrats on the proposal and your upcoming married life. Watching these videos I do feel nervous not seeing some safety precautions that construction and auto body and repair shops would typically require. Safety shoes, safety glasses and long sleeves/pants would be required. Gloves for many of the specific jobs. For the roof raise I was also squirming a bit not to see bump caps / hard hats. For safety on the road I wonder is that lap belt in the passenger seat NHTSA certified? Any reason not to go for a proper seat with shoulder harness? And you addressed weight a lot, but the massive roof raise also changes center of gravity a lot from a bus design concept, which does have a bigimpact on suspension wear, steering and overall stability particularly in windy conditions. Amazing build, folks. Please be careful on the safety front though.
This is so cool!!! And also the first video regarding this. As I was watching, I can't help but compute when you mentioned the price of the tiles. I converted it to our currency, basically your tile price can already buy a house and lot in our country. That alone!
Love the pantry light as all the details! Great call on the counters! You are extremely thoughtful, both of the details and most of all of others. Beautiful life. Also, I caught the sign that you had on the wall during the build, “We become what we think about”. SO TRUE! Keep thinking and dreaming and creating! You are an inspiration!! What an amazing family! bro they really do that coz theres no need to seat in passenger seat.
That shower is the best shower I’ve ever seen in an over the road travel bus/rv. It’s absolutely incredible. Better than $1M+ rv showers. 👍🏻💯

"The more weight, the faster you can slow down." Really slapping Newton in the face with that one.
its true, said so on my cdl test look it up
@@ChayDenne Interesting!
Cool build!
Im still waiting for the 3 story bus with a basement
ha
Me too😂😂😂😂😂
😂😂😂😂
😂
I've seen some bus builds on here and I gotta say yours is easily the best-looking one!

Maybe put a faraday cage material below your mattress to protect you from EMF. It’s not expensive but worth protecting your health.
Why not sleep with a tinfoil hat while you're at it lol
This video literally just made my day!
I could live in this and not be bothered about the world.
33:54 holy smokes i thought the ceiling was a lot lower than that but you can literally sit on an office chair on there and have some extra room
If/when you need to redo the grout, use a flexible grout that’s made to move without cracking. Not sure if they have a flexible thin set, but if so that would be ideal. Unfortunately, I seriously doubt there is a flexible thin set, but you never know what’s out there.
theyhave silicone instead of grout that acts the same for pools spas and hottubs and stuff that would crack normally like edges of showers
Chay should have way more subscribers. What he does in incredible
18:43 the way the cat poped out and stare at the camera i lost it💀💀💀🤣🤣🤣
Everyone’s so concerned like you’re building it for them… you built it for yourself and your fiancé! Enjoy it!
we have to share the road with it lol. thats the concern.
"fiancée". She is female.
Concern for them. And other people on the road.
they have good reasons to be concerned
Pointing out that the interior is likely to fall apart and that it’s possibly way to heavy to be on lots of road is completely fair.
These are legitimate concerns.
Honestly the bus is w and i subbed
我對你的這部白色的巴士改裝印象非常深刻,令人非常難忘
你的細心,你的思緒清晰,編輯的囉集非常令人羨慕

Howl's Moving Castle it is.
Awesome build. 🤙🏼 I'll suggest two things and that is to install a SMOKE and CARBON MONOXIDE detector. (And if you already have these disregard this comment)
I LOVE HOW YOU BUILD THE SCHOOL BUS WITH YOUR DAD LAST NIGHT I WATCHED YOUR VLOG ABOUT IT! EVERYTHING LOOKS EXPENSIVE AND WELL DETAILED
Those cabinets at 22:55 would probably be better as slide-in cabinets instead of the regular drawers so it doesn't hit the fan hahaha but i love the changes! and the cat nook is perfect!
Absolutely amazing!!! It was great that the family all pitched in. Your home is beautiful 💙
You your family and friends did a beautiful job in the bus, love it !
You should move your laundry soap away from your food, the chemicals in them will get in and make you sick.
It's better to be safe than sorry.
this is by far the most impressive bus build and the best part is it's safe
Looks better and more luxurious than those 2 to 3 million dollar motor homes! Great on so many levels! Thanks for the extended tour:)
What a wonderful bus for your small family! I applaud your ingenuity and the love you have for your partner, Kelsey.
So true the ac cools the air inside the home (recirculated). The fan pushes the air back into home, the heat exchanger heat is pushed outside.
Wow, these 42 minutes flew past like it were only 15 minutes. Great build! I definitely want to start a project like this myself as well. Any tips?

your my hero bro... i'm an old schooler and used to have the energy that you have but still appreciate innovation.. AWESOME .. i wish a greater word was made because its just that
side note... if that washer or dryer breaks.. please don't be around my area.. thats my profession but OMG that is going to be a nightmare lol
I loved your transparency on the prices! Amazing build
For those thinking making one 2.0 Bus.
1. Use a wind break and auto jacks when lifting a roof.
2. Install at least 4 Solar Panels
3. Use stamp steel and fiber insulation. Not spray foam
4. Composing toliet, recycle water shower, Maxx vent fans
5. Could try to convert to biogas or veggie oil to run clean
overall chay build is 7.5/10. at 300k bus for 75k-100k aint bad
Does the bus have home insurance, house insurance, or both?
18:39 Cat 🐱👍
Major round of applause!! Y’all are living the dream 🫶🏼
It is unbelievable that you have done so much. This has to be the most,
perfect, RV I've ever seen.

BTW, love from India
Who else found chay one day and has been watching ever since!
Nope. I haven't seen his videos yet.

Since the Mr beast like video days
ME!
my man was dedicated. He made the bus have 2 computers, super expensive tile AND countertops, AND even more
I love how he kept talking about his fiancée goes to show he taught of her all and what will be of benefit for her ❤❤❤ love this
As a pc person, I just recommend propping it up a little bit with some kind of stand or something simple, with it being on carpet is will suck up a lot of dust and strain it for air. Love the bus, keep it up!
still crying from that proposal
fr
wow he really did it. he found tighter shorts.
brings a tear to my eye 🥲
Awesome build? Did you ever consider putting solar panels for power on the roof rather than using the engine, and if so why did u choose not to use solar?
I would say it's probably because they already have plenty of power options and as he mentioned in the video they usually use city power provided at campsites anyway so solar panels would probably be super overkill. Though that doesn't mean it can't be an additional option in the future.
You guys accomplished something much greater than yourself, and became new pros at this!! Much love and blessings to you all! 😊😊
That bus is incredible! Congrats on your proposal.
Why didn’t you use a generator like your last bus? And you should put solar panels on the roof so you can always charge your batteries so you have infinite life on them
right maximize energy will help in the long run instead of maximizing space
because he can charge them with the massive engine
@@Klavin1 if they live in it full time, the solar would pay for itself in a few months considering the price of Diesel.
Woah, this is amazing! Your bus is very high quality, you did an amazing job making it! :D
I agree. They raised the roof and threw a lot of additional weight up there. That is scary.
Didn’t see an exhaust fan / maxi-fan in the bathroom. How does the moisture get out?
I just watched the building video and he said, he put a square silver one.
At exactly 11:48, why is one of your water tanks leaking?
Probably condensation from the air conditioners rather than a water tank
This is so cool!!! And also the first video regarding this. As I was watching, I can't help but compute when you mentioned the price of the tiles. I converted it to our currency, basically your tile price can already buy a house and lot in our country. That alone!
wow i can’t get enough of that kitchennn🥰 you think nobody cared but i was most interested in that sink😅i love it
bro istg this more costly than an actual house (me chilling in a cardboard box)🤪🤪🤪

@@AlrenClan No way. They spent A LOT of money on this project. But it should have paid a good chunk of it.
This build is amazing. I love how well you guys planned for any and everything and how successful you were.
