hi friend!! thanks for commenting:) and sorry for late answering! this kopuz's scale length is 66cm if i am not mistaken... the strings are (from floor to ceiling)- 0.20- 0.25- 0.22. they are tuned- (again floor to ceiling)- 1.Mi (E) 2. Si (B) 3. Re (D). all within same octave... and yes, middle string is lowest in pitch :) again sorry for late commenting!! cheers!
You are not just playing the musical note of the song, you are playing the soul of the song, too. Congratulations 👏🏻 It is the four-five years that I have listened “tutam yar elinden” from you and whenever I listen this video I am impressed each time as if it was the first time.
תודה ......Thank you very much Gilad...You are very successful at KOPUZ and Turkish music...You are from Israel, but you look like Turkish :) Yaşasın müziğin evrenselliği...Herkesi bir yerde birleştirir...Sanki bizden biri gibi içten ve gönülden çaldın...Aldın götürdün bizi...emeğine sağlık
Brilliant! Not sure how I found this video but it certainly put a smile on my face. Have never heard anything like this what a lovely instrument and beautifully played
Tebrikler.
just came across your music and interview at açık radyo, many thanks for your music. çok şükür türküler var. i do hope also to listen to you live somehow..
gozde ersoy thanks gözde, add me on facebook if u have an account and this way u can know when and where i perform... there are some concerts coming up in izmir and istanbul if u are around
Hunnic Pride thanks for this nice explanation :) actually i know a bit about hungarian's origins but my family were jewish so i dont know if we share this heritage, nevertheless i enjoy thinking about these issues because as much as i love music i am also a history buff :)
you are so wrong...at some point khazars did convert to judaism but that doesn't mean that ashkenazis are descendants of khazars ... less than 5% of the bulgarian and hungarian jews only are descendants of khazars ...stop that bullshit with ashkenazis and khazars ... it's been made up by arabs to denie the conection between jewish people and the holy land
you just showed that you don't know anything about Levi, ethiopian jews, sefards and ashkenazis...jews adapted the clothes and culture ( not the religion ) of the people they lived among them ..for example jews from magrib use to wear galabia it's dosn't make any sence ... and the "shamanic spirit" relly made me laugh...how old are you ? ))))))
Great performance - Erkan Ogur styled. :-) Could you please give some info on string length, tuning and string gauges? I am interested in converting a tanbura saz into a sort-of-kopuz. Thanks in advance!
Rahmetli Hasret Gültekin gözlerimin önüne geldi izlerken videoyu. Ciğerimi yaktın be.
This was one of the best performances i ve ever seen ! Really i cant find words to describe how i felt while listenning to this. Especially once i realised that you re not Turkish. I was just wondering how could you learn to play like Erkan Ogur :) Coz its my dream playing like this .
Ziya Aslan thanks Ziya 😊 actually this is an old video, i think i improved since then, i’ll be happy if you check my newer videos... I had the great fortune to attend Erkan’s workshops several times... that definitely helped a lot
Siz ta oralardan kalkın, böyle kaliteli müzikler yapın, bizim insanlarımız bağlama nedir bilemesinler, Türk Halk Müziği'nden bihaber olsunlar. Tebrik ederim..
Hi.very beautifull mellody..Your playing is wonderfull.kopuz is a verybeautifull instrument.I m from greece and i want to learn how to play kopuz. Can i ask you two questions.Exept from anatollian mellodies is it easy to play other things in kopuz, things like ussak saz semai, nihavend saz semaisi, traditional instanbul songs or other saz mellodies.i search for it but i can t find anything else exept from this mellodies witch i love, but since i m not from turkey and will study next to a greek teacher it would be easier for me to start with the classic tanbura, saz repertoir we learn here in greece witch contains song s from the islands, thrace, black sea, crete, instanbul and smyrna mostly.also some classic othoman songs and some Greek mainland and Balcan songs..My teacher will be playing the saz since almost no one here in greece knows the kopuz.I don t like saz very mutch but i love all the songs from the aereas i mention before.Do you think i can keep up with my saz teacher while playing the kopuz or are they very different instruments, and will i be able to play both the kopuz mellodies that i love and tha classic saz repertoir that i also love. These was my two questions.Sorry if i ve tired you but i don t know anyone who can help me with this qestions and buying a good instrument cost s money that i don t really have.Thank you very much and again, sorry for the long long message.Greattings from Grecce.
Gilad: Always enjoy your interpretations of pieces of what is commonly performed with baglama on kopuz and fretless. Tutam Yar Elinden sounds much better musically on kopuz than baglama, to be honest :) And this is one one those tunes that do not need to be sung to touch you. It is much better instrumental. What is the tuning you used for this one? And what strings?
Thank you very much! I agree Kopuz gives a different vibe to this song which I also happen to like very much. I think I was tuned here to Si... meaning: String closest to floor= Mi Middle string= Si String closest to my face= Re
thanks, its called "kopuz düzeni"... its 1- Mi (E) (close to floor string) 2. Si (B) (lowest note) 3. Re (D) (close to player's face string) at can be any other notes in the intervalic spread
+Gilad Weiss thanks a lot! I'm a bit confused with the difference in notes between Turkish music and generally western music. so is that E the same E on a guitar? (sorry for the silly question :))
no problem :) with my answer i tried to pass around the issue of note names in turkish so i actually wrote you what my kopuz is ACTUALLY tuned to in this video... for turkish norm change the E(floor)B(middle)D(my face) to DAC (they are called that why whatever you tune them to because turkish folk musicians use a "movable La" solfeg system, so all sheet music is written from La) ... but, again, the point is not the actual notes but the INTERVALS between them. observe this tuning- the middle string is the bass (the lowest note, ALL notes are in the same octave)!! so the idea is- you have a bass sting (the middle string) that goes up a Perfect 4th (to close-to-floor string ) and (again from bass) up a minor 3rd (to close to face string). the reason i use "close to floor\ close to face" terminology is because numbering the strings or saying "upper\lower" gets very confusing and often one would call this string 1 and the other would call it 3 and so on... anyway i hope its clear enough :)
nurettinbaygibi There are more than a few common ways to tune it, and which is right or wrong is pretty arbitrary. That being said I am not familiar with that tuning.

beautiful so is this instrument same as the Turkish saz?
Perfect, thank you. Is that a cassette player on the desk?

Beautiful song.

Hey Gilad! Beautifully played!
Can you tell me what your tuning system is?
Thanks in advance!
thanks, its called "kopuz düzeni"... its
1- Mi (E) (close to floor string)
2. Si (B) (lowest note)

I really like the "floor-based" string notation :) you solved the eternal confusion pretty well :)
+ThunderStorm86 hahaha :) thanks ;))
Füze at böyle ölmem usta..
Dear Gilad what a great performance...Bravo ....can you say how did you accord the kopuz? for example 1.string is :Mi 2. la 3. Re.......Thank you...
selam sedat, thanks :)

I have a Kopuz as well, how do you tune it for this piece??
I tune mine E,B,F#
i tune mine C , A , D is it wrong ?
nurettinbaygibi There are more than a few common ways to tune it, and which is right or wrong is pretty arbitrary. That being said I am not familiar with that tuning.
