Floor chose her idol, Henk agreed on the condition that he be allowed to join Nightwish on stage in the Netherlands (scheduled for November). Henk sang Disturbed's rendition of 'Sound of Silence' when Floor was featured, it was amazing. Everything Floor did for that show was exceptional, 8 performances in 4 languages and 6 styles.

Floor's voice does break on her performance of "Strong" but that is a song she wrote for and about her mother and for a tough time that her mother was fighting through so it's emotional for her to sing it and I think she has said that she rarely gets through it. Actually, Emma Heesters sings it for Floor in Beste Zangers.

Nice reaction! I've noticed that many reactors feel that Floor has got "a gift". While I certainly agree, I also think that they don't realise how much work Floor and other top tier singers (or any musician, really) actually put into this. Her gift is both her natural talent and the self-discipline needed to put years of work into this. It's nice that you guys recognise this and I'm sure Floor appreciates it when people do! Her superb stage presence is of course also an asset when performing live 😍 Regarding the upcoming new album, Floor's said that she put weeks into breaking the songs into sections, getting each part right without stumbling over the words, then some additional time to make particularly complex sections sound "easy" to the listener and then even more time to actually emote the story she's telling. She's a hard worker! 😀
The only times I heard her voice crack is when she's too emotional to sustain some notes at the end of "Strong", a magnifigent and sad song she wrote for her sick mother back in the days... She almost never makes it without breaking into tears

I always love it when Henk comes in and people are like "WOW didnt see that coming!" not realizing he is actually the OG Phantom and the favorite Phantom of no other than the great Andrew LLoyd Webber, the guy who gave us the musical "Phantom of the Opera". That is easily forgiven tho because it isnt something you can expect that everyone knows about it. Floor and Henk together create a magical moment in music, each time they perform together (they, by now, have performed together several times) BTW, that note is a D6 and she can sing that note for days and days.. she's that powerful. Ehhh well, I think Andrew's favourite might be Ramin Karimloo. But Henk's very good! I saw a bootleg of one of his performances (grainy and old but still) and it was heartbreaking, especially in his final lair. The highest note Christine sings is actually an E6 though, and Floor can't manage it. I don't think Tarja could either, not all sopranos are built to. Andrew did mention in an interview he liked Henk best as the Phantom and that is where i got that information from, but i wouldnt be surprised if he had 2 or maybe even 3 favorites. The role is iconic and needs someone like Henk or indeed Ramin to fully bring out the power of that role. Back on Christine, what many people do not realize is that the final note is such a strain on singers that they cant do it each and every night and they actually made a recording for the evenings the singer wasnt able to pull it off, they would sing over the recording, using the recording as support to give the performance the same level of performance every evening. (this is common tho) And yes, the E6 is more up there in the whistle register and is incredibly difficult to pull of. Mariah Carey (i know, different genre) could do it.. could cause she no longer is able to sing those extreme high notes. Other than that, its a matter of taste, i personally wouldnt be able to chose between Henk and Ramin as both are ridiculously good in that role, and on Christines note, i do know i prefer the D6 over the E6 because it can be held longer and .. doesnt hurt my ears hehehe (personal opinion ofc :) )

I’ve been very curious for awhile abut just what he’d have to say about a vintage Phantom who isn’t Michael Crawford or Colm Wilkinson. He sang on stage in the tenor range, which IMO is why some complain he sounds so different. But he gets the intensity of Erik very well. Agreed! The teacher who worked with Sierra Boggess even says not every soprano can handle it. I used Amy Manford as an example because she can, and with astonishing ease. She can sing Diva Dance like it’s nothing. Nicole Scherzinger can also do it. But if they did it every night, eight shows a week including matinees, they’d ruin their voices. No shame at all I,o in using the recording. Think Of Me is always sung live and that cadenza is impressive, too.

I do know Nicole Scherzinger has range but i didnt know she had that range, color me impressed :) I can tell you know your stuff, more than i do hehehe, but i do know the names you mentioned but would have to listen to a few to be sure who's who. It's an incredible musical/opera with amazing songs and story telling that needs seriously good singers to pull of the magic that the Phantom is known for. I personally like the deeper baritone voice for the role of Eric because it suits the "darkness" of the role better, but that is obviously my preference. which is due to me listening to Henk do it in the late 80's/early 90's in theater. It wasnt the first time i heard the Phantom, but that was the first time seeing and really hearing it, and got hooked on his Eric from then on. (so yes i'm a bit biased hehe) Later saw him again in Les Miserables perform as Jean Valjean and that too blew me away. Back on that interview, i'll try and find it for you and will get back to you when i do (also when i cant find it), ty for a fun conversation, i've learned a thing or two i was not aware of and i always welcome new information :D
Henk poort isn't an opera singer..... he is THE opera singer, for the netgerlands. He actually played that roll on their Broadway..... He does a really good version of sound of silence for Floor on the same show.
This show is a group of Dutch performers, different singing styles and back grounds.. They each research the backgrounds, careers, and lives of the others in the group,, One singer each week is "On The Couch" where the others, one at a time, sing to them a song that is either, a song that they wrote, or a song that is somehow very special in their personal life for some reason. They each take turns talking about the song they have chosen to perform for them. Not watching the full episode you miss this dialog of why these songs are so special to the individual on the couch, the dialog brings a degree of personal understanding that pulls the viewing audience in far beyond just the performances..
Duet of the century... Day when this came out, internet "went broken", whole Nightwish army was looking it exactly same time (we know time when it comes out). Here in Finland even afternoon newspaper used these words "The day when internet went broken". We NW fans are thinking she is the best female metal vocalist, cos she is so versatile + her tone of voice... If we make line where other end is opera and other end is growling, so far we think she in only person in whole world who can do both ends and everything between! Of course we understand there might be better singer in some specific areas, like opera singer or someone making growling. BUT those persons cannot do then some other areas in that line!
This was the first for a metal performer on this show. Floor shocked them all from her first performance on Beste which was the song she did for Henk, Vilja Lied, which was a song his mother sang to him. Henk is in his 60s and has an awesome career and Floor looked up to him.

At this moment, Henk poort is 64 years old and he did and still does a lot of singing. Opera, musicals, collaborations and solo stuff. And he did a little bit of acting here and there. He is part of the Three Baritones, a dutch group of singers who once in a while is performing or recording (the group itself being a kind of funny answer to the Three Tenors). As mentioned he was the Dutch Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera. Check out his rendition of 'Sound of silence', originally from Simon and Garfunkel, but doing the cover made by Disturbed.

That was the same note D6 what Tarja sang too on Nightwish video. It only shows how unbelievable range she has... all the way from her lowest growling notes to these coloratura soprano's high notes. And she can go even higher, I'm sure, I think somewhere like F#6 which is 4 steps higher. Tarja could reach F#6 too, I guess, but she cannot sing as low as Floor does. I wish Floor and Marko will someday perform this live with Nightwish. They already have a plan that Henk will come and sing this live with Floor when Nightwish perform in the Netherlands.

The funny thing is that the majority main stream Dutch person had no idea who Floor was before this program. After that they were all like, wtf? Who is she? We metal fans were like - what rock have you been living under haha! Floor is awesome. But Henk Poort as well. I actually saw him in theatre for the dutch version of the Phantom and he was phenomenal. I think Andrew Lloyd Webber once said that Henk was THE Phantom for him.

Every one of her performances at this show were amazing. Each one was a different style of song too. The worst I've heard from Floor was a performance of Ghost Love Score and she was so sick she couldn't hit the money note at the end. Bless her heart, she tried like 3 times and it just wouldn't come out. I felt so bad for her. She didn't back down from it though. She went for it, even very sick. I think it was from Charlotte, NC but I don't know what year it was from. It was a bad cell phone recording too so it was hard to tell if she was singing poorly through the whole song. I just remember she couldn't hit that last note.
I think its difficult to say which version I prefer, I of course love this one, the chemistry with Floor & Henk are but the one with Marco & Tarja, how sinister Marco sounds in that performance.

An opera singer doing some type of growling is a big no-no in the opera world. But Henk likes to cross boundaries. By the way, he is some 63 years old I think, and Floor has been a longtime fan of Henk. This duet was long overdue.
From what I see you lads are quite young. Which brings me to my point: You guys are blessed because most of todays younger generation do not know what real musical talent and musical art is. The Lame Stream Music Industry has showed down our TVs and Radios overrated electronic studio mixed crap recordings which have become todays top of the line standard. Most of todays music is focused on appearance and fashion statements rather than real musical talent and substance. Floors live performances puts most in not all of the studio recordings of todays so called "Divas" to shame. Floor doesn't even deserve to be added to the Diva label because she is not! @@blissinchains I saw that interview on television but i will try and find it on here (i should be able to recognize the setting) And indeed its not a shame at all to use recordings every ow and then to save one's voice. I do know Nicole Scherzinger has range but i didnt know she had that range, color me impressed :) I can tell you know your stuff, more than i do hehehe, but i do know the names you mentioned but would have to listen to a few to be sure who's who. It's an incredible musical/opera with amazing songs and story telling that needs seriously good singers to pull of the magic that the Phantom is known for. I personally like the deeper baritone voice for the role of Eric because it suits the "darkness" of the role better, but that is obviously my preference. which is due to me listening to Henk do it in the late 80's/early 90's in theater. It wasnt the first time i heard the Phantom, but that was the first time seeing and really hearing it, and got hooked on his Eric from then on. (so yes i'm a bit biased hehe) Later saw him again in Les Miserables perform as Jean Valjean and that too blew me away. Back on that interview, i'll try and find it for you and will get back to you when i do (also when i cant find it), ty for a fun conversation, i've learned a thing or two i was not aware of and i always welcome new information :D

Henk poort isn't an opera singer..... he is THE opera singer, for the netgerlands. He actually played that roll on their Broadway.....
He does a really good version of sound of silence for Floor on the same show.
Although the countries have a lot in common with each other, Henk is from the Netherlands though.

This show is a group of Dutch performers, different singing styles and back grounds.. They each research the backgrounds, careers, and lives of the others in the group,, One singer each week is "On The Couch" where the others, one at a time, sing to them a song that is either, a song that they wrote, or a song that is somehow very special in their personal life for some reason. They each take turns talking about the song they have chosen to perform for them. Not watching the full episode you miss this dialog of why these songs are so special to the individual on the couch, the dialog brings a degree of personal understanding that pulls the viewing audience in far beyond just the performances..

Duet of the century... Day when this came out, internet "went broken", whole Nightwish army was looking it exactly same time (we know time when it comes out). Here in Finland even afternoon newspaper used these words "The day when internet went broken".
We NW fans are thinking she is the best female metal vocalist, cos she is so versatile + her tone of voice... If we make line where other end is opera and other end is growling, so far we think she in only person in whole world who can do both ends and everything between! Of course we understand there might be better singer in some specific areas, like opera singer or someone making growling. BUT those persons cannot do then some other areas in that line!

This was the first for a metal performer on this show. Floor shocked them all from her first performance on Beste which was the song she did for Henk, Vilja Lied, which was a song his mother sang to him. Henk is in his 60s and has an awesome career and Floor looked up to him.
Tim Akkerman(the guy in the Ramones shirt) did an awesome version of Nightwish's Nemo in this show. And Henk did a great duet with Emma Heesters(the girl in red) as well. You should check those two out as well. You'll enjoy those.Really like your reactions. Keep 'em coming!

At this moment, Henk poort is 64 years old and he did and still does a lot of singing. Opera, musicals, collaborations and solo stuff. And he did a little bit of acting here and there. He is part of the Three Baritones, a dutch group of singers who once in a while is performing or recording (the group itself being a kind of funny answer to the Three Tenors).
As mentioned he was the Dutch Phantom in the Phantom of the Opera.
Check out his rendition of 'Sound of silence', originally from Simon and Garfunkel, but doing the cover made by Disturbed.

Henk Poort played the Phantom on a run of the stage play, and he's said he is willing to sing with Floor and Nightwish for another live showing of Phantom of the Opera. Also as a fan of Friday, nice shirt.
Henk was The Phantom in the original Dutch production of Phantom of the Opera.
That was the same note D6 what Tarja sang too on Nightwish video. It only shows how unbelievable range she has... all the way from her lowest growling notes to these coloratura soprano's high notes. And she can go even higher, I'm sure, I think somewhere like F#6 which is 4 steps higher. Tarja could reach F#6 too, I guess, but she cannot sing as low as Floor does. I wish Floor and Marko will someday perform this live with Nightwish. They already have a plan that Henk will come and sing this live with Floor when Nightwish perform in the Netherlands.
That note was a D6, not quite the E6 the actresses in the stage show hit, but as she held it for 8 seconds--impressive. Also near the top end of a soprano's range. Henk Poort is also the original Dutch Phantom from the 1992 production. He knows the character of Erik front to back.

The funny thing for me is that it was the last episode and all the performers had already seen Floor do all these amazing things in all of the songs she had done. And yet they all look sooooo shook when she starts hitting the last notes :)

The funny thing is that the majority main stream Dutch person had no idea who Floor was before this program. After that they were all like, wtf? Who is she? We metal fans were like - what rock have you been living under haha! Floor is awesome. But Henk Poort as well. I actually saw him in theatre for the dutch version of the Phantom and he was phenomenal. I think Andrew Lloyd Webber once said that Henk was THE Phantom for him.

Every one of her performances at this show were amazing. Each one was a different style of song too. The worst I've heard from Floor was a performance of Ghost Love Score and she was so sick she couldn't hit the money note at the end. Bless her heart, she tried like 3 times and it just wouldn't come out. I felt so bad for her. She didn't back down from it though. She went for it, even very sick. I think it was from Charlotte, NC but I don't know what year it was from. It was a bad cell phone recording too so it was hard to tell if she was singing poorly through the whole song. I just remember she couldn't hit that last note.
I think its difficult to say which version I prefer, I of course love this one, the chemistry with Floor & Henk are but the one with Marco & Tarja, how sinister Marco sounds in that performance.

From what I see you lads are quite young. Which brings me to my point: You guys are blessed because most of todays younger generation do not know what real musical talent and musical art is. The Lame Stream Music Industry has showed down our TVs and Radios overrated electronic studio mixed crap recordings which have become todays top of the line standard. Most of todays music is focused on appearance and fashion statements rather than real musical talent and substance. Floors live performances puts most in not all of the studio recordings of todays so called "Divas" to shame. Floor doesn't even deserve to be added to the Diva label because she is not! Floor is The Queen!

The Tarja/Marco Version is way better but to compare, Tarja was more of a classic singer and that performance was part of a concert/tour. This version is on a "low budget" public TV show where they record 6 episodes in 3-4 days .
