Of course, we're all unique and no two people will ever be identical, but I can hear lots of the stuff he plays in my head. It's being able to translate that through the instrument that's the real issue.
Great informative video. I've had my 1955 Gold Top since 1970 and Bernie played it a few times with early Whitesnake when i was their sound engineer. Hugely enjoyable doing my job with Micky M. playing his ( can't remember what year his Gold Top was but def 50's, he had humbuckers fitted) and Bernie playing mine. Wonderful memories.👍🇬🇧
Owned three gold tops, never understood the greening effect on them. Had an actual 56 w/P90's, checked all over and green where my right forearm draped across it. About 10 years ago bought a 56 RI it began to check and green in the first year. Now I have a '57 RI and it won't crack or craze or green. What I used to think was my body chemistry might just be paint makeup. Granted I did have almost 2 years of chemo, radiation and a bone marrow transplant which changed my body makeup, genetically and even my blood type...but, I tend to think it's the paint used. Chris you are an inspiration, Thank you.
When I grow up ... I wanna be able to play like Chris. (I'm 64 and have been playing for 45 years.) If I wasn't constantly inspired by great players like Chris I would have thrown my gear in the nearest dumpster years ago. I still want a Gold Top Revstar.
Never grow up and remember 'the only difference between men and boys is the price of their toys'. Folks of all ages watch Chris' EPIC content. His playing is unreal!
I have always wanted a '59 but when I've went to buy my first reissue Les Paul I could not resist the tone and sustain of a Murphy Labs Double gold R7 Light aged. It was head ans shoulders above any other Les Paul in the shop. At one moment I thought wait let me check the Normal CS R7 it might be the plain top and or narrow tall frets or what ever, but nope that one was just feeling dead in the hands and tone was not there. Got it for my 50th B-day as present to my self. In mean time only mod on it I have done was complicated enough. I have changed all the cables to proper vintage spec braided wire. Even wire from the pickups involving the hearth surgery on the Custombuckers Alnico III pickups. Man it was surely worth it. Guitar even became louder. Way more tone comes out of it while less is sucked by the cables capacitance. I feel so lucky that I've got this master peace. Thus is one in a thousand Les Paul. Not to mention that my second choice after the burst would be a gold top as homage to Duane, Billy G. , and many more people making history with it. Now it is my most often played guitar although I have few good guitars. I play it even more often than my PRS 594 Woodlibrary 10 Top that is on it's own crazy good guitar. Anyhow Gold tops rock and I love them.
I do not know what to say. Just saying CONGRATULATIONS is not enough. It feels like you play from the heart, and "Les" hears this. He rings, cries, screams and whispers of happiness. This Les Paul IS PRICELESS.
I’ve been following Chris buck since back in the Buck and Evans days. He’s always been an exciting player but since Cardinal black It sounds likes he’s really started to hone in on his own unique sound. I reckon a lot of people could have listened to that intro jam with their eyes closed yet still would have been able to tell it was Chris Keep killing it mate
I have been playing and listening to Guitar for well over 50 Years. I was just listening to Chris Buck while surfing the net and forgot I was listening. I realized that he is the latest truly new& original voice that we have had in many, many years. When he finally steps away from Buck & Evans and makes his way alone he will Bloom.
No matter how many guitars I play , I always go back to my 1977 Gold top Deluxe . I simply love everything about it . Awesome playing enjoyed the video .
Top episode once again and stellar playing and sounds. The gold top is my favourite Les Paul. I have a Custom shop '56 gold top with a chunky neck and P90's and I love it.
Love this. The guitar greats like Gilmour, are recognisable by their delivery, expression and tone. No matter what the guitar, you know its them. I think its time to put Chris Buck in that category.
What a great into ...WoW...luv'd Les watched alot of the 90's + of the Tueday night gigs not only got the most out of guitars but also musicians ...he put everone in the limelight !..wonderful tones Chris
Magical episode...so much of this historical info I just didn't know, I guess largely not being a Gibson player. Thanks Chris...and awesome playing throughout. 😎
Great video Chris. Hugely informative and with some very tasty playing. I've always been a Strat man but a few years ago felt the urge to buy a Gold Top (mainly inspired by Hubert Sumlin). Not having deep pockets I had my eye on an Epiphone Les Paul '56 Gold Top but they had temporarily stopped making them and I couldn't find a secondhand one. By chance I went into a local guitar shop to buy some strings for my Strat and there hanging on the wall was just what I was looking for. I asked the owner how much he wanted for it and he said that the list price was 500€ but that as it had been hanging on the wall for five years and no-one had shown any interest in it, he'd let me have it for 350€. He even threw in a gigbag. I took it home, cleaned it up, oiled the fretboard and restrung it and it came alive! It really sings and is a fabulous guitar for the price.
Great video! I love Goldtops. One small correction though. The bridge issue with the first iteration of the Les Paul was actually because Gibson had forgotten to take into account the carved maple top when designing the guitar. According to Les, the strings wrapped over the bridge in a prototype guitar that did not have a carved maple top. It was only in production when they were building the guitars with the added thickness of the maple cap that Gibson realized their mistake and had to wrap under the bridge.
I have a lot of respect for the guys who play the fast technical stuff but it just doesn’t make you feel anything. Chris has a real talent for taking you on an emotional journey with waypoints at Happytown, Bluesville, and all the other feelings on the highway of life!
I've book marked and watched hat intro on the original video so many times! And there are parts of it that i consider the best playing of all time by anyone.
Chris' exquisitely clean finger picking (not to mention his creative artistry) is exemplary of why Jeff Beck opted for the flesh-tone from his fingers in lieu of the sharp attack from picks.
Trying to learn guitar at 60 is hard… so I fill in the gaps in my guitaring with things like this awesome knowledge and history from Chris. What a guitar master. Interesting to learn what mistakes manufacturers made in the very early days.
In between my junior and senior year in college (University to some of you across the pond) in 1978 my next door neighbor was having a yard sale and a friend of theirs put a mid-50's Les Paul gold top with P-90's up for sale there for between $300 and $350. I had just made the payment for the fall semester and had very little in my bank account so I asked my father if he could front me the money. He then asked if that was the guitar I really wanted as the plan was to continue to use the Les Paul Junior I had borrowed from my brother in law and buy one of my own in later 79 or 80 after I graduated and was making a living. At that time he made a lot of sense and so we passed on the guitar. It may have been one of the few times in my youth that I actually listened to him, and hindsight being 20/20, I shouldn't have, but who knew at that time. (Thanks for letting me vent a little)
I used to see Clapton with John Mayall in the Beano days, you're not far off Chris! Wicked fine player with your best still unplayed. Too top it off, I love how you present your videos, understated, to the point and full of fascinating guitar lore. I hope to see you live one day. Been thinking “ I need to just take one of Chris’ solos and study it like it’s the Rosetta Stone” - but which one to pick? Then this video comes out with that intro. Unbelievable- hours and hours of work ahead of me.
As always, such a nice combination of tasteful playing and great information. I have a '54 Goldtop with the corrected neck angle. It's completely original and plays and sounds like, well... gold. I love the wraparound tailpiece as it seems to grant more connectivity between the strings and the body, increases harmonic character, and relaxes string tension just a bit as well. Anyway, thanks for another great vid.
The opening jam should be featured on an album. Just too good, beautiful, and tasteful.
I think this is a longer version.

Chris Buck plays the stuff we only wish we were hearing in our heads when listening to other guitarists play
Of course, we're all unique and no two people will ever be identical, but I can hear lots of the stuff he plays in my head. It's being able to translate that through the instrument that's the real issue.

@@1satisfiedmind I can totally relate. : )
@@1satisfiedmind LOL! I know that's right.
Yeah, pretty much.
Goddamn, man. There's Slash, Friedman, Buck and God knows what else in that initial solo, in a incredibly tasteful presentation. It's brutal
Yeah I was thinking it sounded kinda Slashy. Definitely cool.
I think this is a longer version.
ua-cam.com/video/TiNXBDHFqag/v-deo.html
I can hear some Clapton/Harrison too
And Gary Moore
@@TempoDrift1480 the Anastasia lick at 1:59!
Yeah, that opening jam was too damn good.
True, my favorite of his. Nice to get a extended version!
@@WW-1995 Sounds a lot like the stuff Chris Rea did in the late '80s.

From musician to musician, you have got to be one of the best guitar players I have ever heard
he has a good ear for music, very enjoyable indeed.
Subtle and nuanced. Excellent work.
Holy shitballs that intro was incredible!😲
You blow my mind every friday! that right hand, yeah!!
I'm 72 and been playing guitar since a teenager. Your solo on the Pannuci brought tears of joy to my old eyes. Thanks Chris, you're a star.
I know what you mean, I feel the same
That opening solo is so good I cant get past 2.20 in the video without hitting replay.
I'm a '57 model, heard a lot of great players and listened to many present knowledge on guitars. This man is the epitome of both.
Good luck with the show Sunday Buckmaster. Blow the castle down💪💪😊
Man, You are out of this world!
Man his pick goes flying near the end of that outro solo and he doesn’t even miss a beat
Lol I don’t think I would’ve noticed unless I’d read your comment first 🤓
The playing at 14:00 is just beautiful. Thank you Chris,.. and of course, Gibson for giving the world this sound.
Is that a song? Think I have heard it before
@@noD1va I don't know it if it is, but it should be.
Man. That intro is the real gold. Luxury. Sweet and sad. The read real. Reminds me of DiMeola.
Les Paul's and staggeringly good guitar playing is what Friday's are made for. Great watch.
That intro was played before in a older video. I’m glad you bring it on again
Who can possibly dislike this !?
That opening solo, my God!!!!
Great informative video.

White snake Rocked us all😢❤
I think I’ve seen it all then Chris Buck decides to pick up a guitar. Absolute phenom. That first solo is just other worldly !!!
Gonna lock myself up with my guitar and learn all these solo's! So tasteful, should be on an album.
Do it! Go for it.
Nice! Are these solos from a song? Because I think I have heard them in another video
