about your reel i have the same combo i got a new reel because the same thing kept happening to me. if you want to fix it,you see the little silver button on the side of the middle part hold that in while you put the other half of the reel, then let it go when the other half of the reel is fully on.

When it’s that cold, you really should never have the fish out of the water that long. Their gills start freezing in seconds.
