- Watch the highlights from our live streaming nest box of the Blue Tit family which raised a brood of three chicks
On 21st March 2019, a small Blue Tit started building its nest at our site in Liverpool, UK. The build process took 31 days, and we saw the first egg's arrival on Easter Sunday!
Eight eggs were laid in total; however, only three chicks fledged from this nest. It's not uncommon to lose so many chicks during the breeding process; this is why they can lay up to twelve eggs.
The three chicks fledged on 30th May 2021.

A lovely video, I didn't realise so many don't survive to fledge. I loved the male's excitement when he saw his chick for the first time.

🕊️ me starts with moss, press it down with me chest real good then use straw to make it have walls. Now can pluck my own down to make soft and add cottonwood. Now can put my eggs in. Soft bed for babies.

That was amazing! I have had my box for a few years, never got to see them leave the nest. Last year I was off work an it was good to watch every day. Sadly the mother got killed by a cat an the poor father was back an forward feeding the chick's. On the morning chick's were leaving the nest cat was in the bushes an by the time I got to it he had killed them all. Very upsetting to see after all the time the poor father an myself had tried to look after them.

awwwww such a great video. Please could I ask what camera system you used? We have chicks about to fledge, and I want a box camera next year. Watching the parents nesting and then feed the chicks have been our highlight of lock down.

It's a birds nest. They don't have tape measures...
Anyone out there for advice? I put some nest boxes up more for decoration really, not thinking it would be used in my garden. I have some blue tits nesting. Any advice out there, can I help in anyway, maybe cover box with a big branch or something? There is plenty of delicious food right out their box. I'm just a bit concerned now and hoping everything goes ok.
@@J5X7 I am, they seem to be doing good. I see them out coming back 'home' each day. Hopefully hear little ones squeaking soon....
