ALSO if anyone didn't know this game is called DEMENTO in Japanese. It is questionable why it is called "Haunting Ground" in other regions as there is no ghosts just stalkers and strange creatures.
Actually, not really an L. It has a large cult following & has been mentioned in psychology textbooks. The reason it failed was because it was released alongside Resident Evil 4, without any promotion. It could never have been reasonably expected to do well. Capcom does still acknowledge it, as do many survival horror fanatics.
I recommend you to do similar video about Rule of Rose another underrated Ps2 survival horror game very controversial back in 2000s . Rule of Rose just like Haunting Ground has a dog companion .
The game has some good but the overall messaging was kind of blatant, cringeworthy & on the nose, the villains were very cartoonish & lame, except for daniellia who was the best & most interesting character, she imo should of been the main villain, but we all know in 2024, that we cannot have pure evil female villains who do evil stuff cause they desire too, no it has to be a sexist 1-dimensional man pulling the patriarchal Strings.
It was executed terribly, cartoonish caricatures like ricardo & lorenzo ruined the game, also having all the women be victims and men be bad is blatant feminist propaganda i see it everywhere in modern media, its a blatant sexist & lazy trope that removes all nuance and makes Character depth impossible, talking about sexism in stuff fails hard when you have 1-dimensional characters who do nothing interesting.
This game is a horror hidden gem and I think Capcom largely handled the subject matter in a decent way. It’s such a shame that a game like this might never get remade. But there’s always a chance.

So cute!!
Sadly I don't think Capcom will ever remake this and even if they do it will be very condensed and only physically attractive...
I agree, I don't see Capcom ever remaking this.
Sadly Capcom saw this as an L and at the time they were right.

The best survival horror game in history & its not even close
Meh
I think it's 4/10 it's somewhat scary but the weak villains hurt this game.
