Michael Franti Hope I Come Back as a Song Rev Cecil Williams Celebration of Life - May 12 2024

The Celebration of Life of the Rev. Cecil Williams was held on May 12, 2024 at Glide Memorial Church. Dr. Gina Fromer, President & CEO of GLIDE, along with the political activist and scholar Dr. Angela Davis, Mayor London Breed, singer-songwriters Michael Franti and Joan Baez, and a long list of acclaimed elected leaders, musicians, family and friends, praised Rev. Cecil Williams for a lifetime of love, courage, and commitment to fight injustice and speak truth to power.
Cecil died on April 22nd. During the last 61 years of his life, he resuscitated a dwindling congregation of a few dozen people at the Glide Memorial Church into a multi-racial, multi-generational movement numbering in the tens of thousands. There are few people who have moved the moral compass in San Francisco towards truth and justice more than Cecil Williams.

I never listened to Michael Franti before last Sunday but I must have listened to this song 100 times since then. He made a fan out of me this day! I felt the puppy story straight through my heart. I hope I come back as a song too. Thank you Mr. Franti. You made Cecil's memorial so special. I'm sure Cecil and Janice were up there clapping their hands and dancing around!
