Most of the problem with EN voice acting in anime industry is that the VA tries too hard to mimic the age of their character, which mostly teenager. It creates a rather flat tone. That's why it sounds off. But, most of the characters in this game are already adult so the VA can go all out. In fact, animes that focused on adult characters have a great EN dub. Dragon Ball and Psycho-Pass are 2 perfect examples.
@vermeerdragyl341 can I have examples of bad dubs that go into that "flat" or cringey nature? I like dub and watch anime in dub, but I don't find it too bad /gen
@@vermeerdragyl341 It's also something to take into consideration when it comes to culture. There's massive differences. There's always going to be something lost from the original to the translated dub, and that's fine. I just pick and choose which VAs I want to listen to. I never bash ANY translation cause at least it's getting translated and multiple cultures can experience it. I mean, look at some of the first anime EN speakers got to hear. Voice acting has improved greatly since then and it'll continue to improve from here.
The problem for EN for me is not the voice actors themselves, but the direction they take to make it more palatable to english audience. Example is english voice itto (genshin). His EN VA is one of my faves but for some reason, the direction they took was leaning towards the haha funny man route. He is a funny man but if you listen to the CN dubbing, youd hear a lot of soft expressions that just werent showed enough in the EN acting. Also i know they wanted it to appeal more to english audience but they literally ditched itto's (hbd) operatic singing for a rap. The same is similar for EN Tingyun who for some reason sounded waaay too playful in her in-battle voicelines and completely ditched any the bit of elegance that was present in CN. But this is not just english, JP flops sometimes with this and i think JP tingyun was a bit over the top with the seductive tone lol The voice acting for blade is great across the board bec they seem to agree on how to portray him and deliver his voicelines.
