I'll second CarPlay videos. I'm all-in with Apple and the lack of better integration here certainly has to be on their radar. Thanks as always! Your channel is a go-to for me!
Absolutely would love CarPlay videos. I have a Ford F-150 Lightning and have lived the EV life for the past three years. Would love to set up some automations for the vehicles.
Awesome video! I feel like this is going to be something that the wife and I will be doing here soon! Our smart home wouldn't be where it is right now without your videos! Thanks man!
Awesome. I’ve been doing this a while. I was the guy that submitted this for your automations video. The only problem I have with it is when they update the Onstar plug in my car automations don’t work. I have to go into homebridge and manually update the plug in. That happens a few times a year. I like your idea of having the remote start be temperature dependent.
I’m sure CarPlay 2.0 will eliminate the need to jump through hoops of making a car start along with unlocking it. Can’t wait for Apple to bring this feature!
My concern is not owning the car and they force you to pay for a perpetual subscription for any app it’s already starting … I would like to see the auto companies allow us to run independent servers as we are paying for a 20k+ vehicle unlike the big tech firms …
Except…GM is killing support for CarPlay and Android Auto in new models in favor of proprietary, subscription services. For me, any manufacturer doing this is off the buy list.
Hey at least you found that Silver Lining! New truck with Car Play and Automatiions in HK! That’s awesome. Our CRV didn’t add support for remote start via the app until the next year of the one we got.
@@ShaneCreates very nice. Looks cool. Have your wife get a hoodie from Adam and you’d be a prime couple. My Tesla M3 works now but with refresh token of oath passing around not sure it’s safe.
Added my wife’s Ford to home assistant and then Homekit earlier this year. Now it seems ford is taking away access because it’s not working very well lately :(
I remember you used to use hoobs, I have hoobs but stoped using it because it constantly stoped working and updates were a hassle. I always see others using home bridge but after hoobs I’m a bit conscious. You have any opinions?
Yeah. Had this for my fords before but after a while they started shutting down those using third party methods like these and locking out accounts. I miss it :(
Nice integration Shane. Great video as usual. I noticed you switched to the Orbi 970 from the TP-Link BE85. Any trouble with the TP-Link or did you switch because of sponsorship? I am asking because I have the TP-Link BE95 and am having quite a bit of trouble with it. Thanks.
@@ShaneCreatesThx. I am really considering trading in the BE95 for the Orbi or something else. I have spent way too many hours trying to figure out the problems with TP-Link tech support and R&D. Still having issues.
Hey Shane, I added a water sensor to my house and put it on the Aqara app was good but how do you customize the place u want it? Mine is upstairs and I want it to say bathroom but their options didn't have that. Also it does not appear in Homekit just up the top how do I make it show up on the home screen
Sensors only show in the top status section on the Home tab. In the home app, you can also customize rooms and you can add the sensor to whichever room you prefer in the sensor's settings.
Hey Shane, does this integration require you to be AT home or will it allow you once you set it up to relay through the internet so you can remote start via Siri anywhere you get a signal since it is using OnStar and we can control our homes from anywhere?
I'd say it's probably a good practice to add new plugins as a child bridge. That way if you ever add a plugin that is a problem, it potentially won't mess up your entire HomeBridge instance. There should be a little bridge icon that you can click on (on the plugins page) that will display the QR code.
@@charmainejohnson2330 No it shouldn't double up the accessories but you will loose the original accessories from that plugin when you switch to a child bridge.
I did this back in 2022 when I bought my Ford F150. The issue was that Ford knew I was using a 3rd party app to control my truck. In their terms and conditions they don’t allow 3rd party apps. They would lock me out of my Ford app and disable this feature on me. They would lock my account. What was cool when I had it working. I would use my Apple AirTags to scan my phone and start my truck. Just be careful and read the terms and conditions. They might lock you out of your account.
And anything with Carplay would be awesome...Please make sure if you can use a wireless adapter to enable wireless Carplay. My 2024 says it supports wireless, but currently I have to be plugged in and I would like to be able to see if this will work with one of those wireless adapters.
The trucks thing is an American thing you truck won’t fit in car parks (lots) in Australia they are becoming a big problem as they are selling lots for all the small little men lol 😂the Tesla app is amazing has Siri Shortcuts and will pop up on my watch to close the boot (trunk) from my watch and can do heaps more going to watch the Christmas light show today merry Christmas 🎄 the videos are great can’t wait to see what 2024 for has for HomeKit and Aqara
I was able to add my Renault Zoe EV to HomeKit through either Hubitat C8 or Homey Pro. The only automation I currently use is a scene to turn on the air con to warm the car before I drive
1:50 There's no such thing as quad band, it's tri band, but with two 5 GHz connections. It's also extremely overpriced. I'd also be a bad techie of I didn't point out that most devices don't support WiFi 6e, Wi-Fi 7 is a joke in almost every case. Even 8k streams, which should be wired, can run in on Wi-Fi 5 with plenty of overhead. These ad reads could use improvement and personalization.
You truck has a setting in its menu to lock the doors when you remove the keys from the truck. I use this in my car. Super convenient and I never forget to lock it.
It really does not require much coding at all these days. Most decent plugins have a good interface where you can just put in the information it needs (as you could see with the onstar plugin).

You got a GM truck at the right time, because none of the new models will have CarPlay anymore.
Just their electric vehicles.
Go with tesla the king 🤴

This is exactly what I did with several previous leases and my current Malibu. Love it!

Shane as always you blow my mind with your integration of devices into HomeKit. Now here I go Cadillac in HomeKit.
Haha LET'S GO!!
Thanks for watching! 😃
for sure want to see more carplay and car integrations with ios anything! good stuff man thanks for the video!
Coming soon! 😉
I’m sure CarPlay 2.0 will eliminate the need to jump through hoops of making a car start along with unlocking it. Can’t wait for Apple to bring this feature!

This is a pretty cool video. Like how everything works.
Great video Shane! I love taking smart home to another level.
Car play videos would be great, Thanks, Shane and Happy New Year!
Great video Shane!! I want to see more with Home. Shortcuts, CarPlay with your truck.
LOL loved the iPad magnetic attachment to the new truck . It's a truck right! Merry Christmas Shane.
Shane, enjoyed your video and yes, would like to see a dedicated video with CarPlay. In addition from my family to yours have a merry Christmas.
Love this! I'm already planning on remote start for my next car, and now I def wanna have HomeKit integration. Yes, please more CarPlay adventures!
Thanks Eric!!
YESSS CARPLAY VIDEO!
Coolest thing i saw in this video is the ipad magnetically attaching to the truck… lol that was dope
Thank you. I plan to use this with my TESLA M3. Question though .How do you get EVE swags (like the nice hoodie)?
Great! Good luck with your Tesla!
I was gifted the hoodie when I met the Eve team at CES 2023.

Shortcut with smart garage opener, outside temperature, and car remote start, if a work day. Is that possible?
Man what a video!, It's awesome to get the best out of Apple's ecosystem to the outside world!, yes! a carplay video would be great!

I wonder if there’s anything like this for Honda
Yeah. Had this for my fords before but after a while they started shutting down those using third party methods like these and locking out accounts. I miss it :(
Nice. This is game changer.
More car play adventures pls
My Honda remote start only works through key fob. Now you have me thinking switchbot button pusher on my spare fob to integrate it into home kit 😅
Yay new truck! 😃
That orbi 970 is quite expensive for most people considering the cost, what other mesh router system do you recommend?
More CarPlay pls!!!
So on homebridge now. Do you need a pc? Then how do you run the program and install on phone?
Videos on carplay would be interesting to me, even though I don't have it and I *hope* I won't need to replace my current car anytime soon.
Thanks for the feedback Garance.

How do I get the file to the car?

Oh this sucks! Wasn't it before when the sensor would show up?
Also, I'm going to put two in each bathroom can I name them like sink and toilet?
Does it still work without having to purchase OnStar or do you need to get the monthly OnStar?
I believe you'll need the most basic plan at minimum. My vehicle came with three years of the "remote access" plan at no charge.
Hey Shane, does this integration require you to be AT home or will it allow you once you set it up to relay through the internet so you can remote start via Siri anywhere you get a signal since it is using OnStar and we can control our homes from anywhere?
Yes, it will work from anywhere.
Can you add a second vehicle?
Sure you should be able to configure multiple vehicles in the homebridge plugin.
Do I add the plug-in as a child bridge? How do I get the HK code?
I'd say it's probably a good practice to add new plugins as a child bridge. That way if you ever add a plugin that is a problem, it potentially won't mess up your entire HomeBridge instance.
There should be a little bridge icon that you can click on (on the plugins page) that will display the QR code.

Two 5 GHz bands, plus the 2.4 and 6 GHz bands, equals four bands... hence "quad" band.
I do appreciate the feedback.
Pretty sure a CarPlay-enabled car should be your next giveaway. Just sayin'
Dang I just got one myself! I can’t give it away already! 😜
