I f-ing love the Roma.
The dispersion is so god awful it actually works for this ship sometimes. Especially when uptiered to T10, you miss like 2 volleys and then the enemy Monty goes full broadside just for you to chunk him with 3 citadels because of the stupid pen those 380s have lmao
Yup. The dispersion is so bad, that it's actually good. Ironically, it works best on angled cruisers
its also my favorite ship, absolutely an amazing ship, always get like 80-100k every time i play it and it just never gets boring

Roma is great. Superb concealment, good handling, incredible armour, fast turret traverse and amazing firing angles.
I remember double-citadelling a pre-nerf Petro at max range, it was glorious. You can't do that every time, of course.
This one honestly took me by surprise I rarely ever have a terrible game in Roma and I ALWAYS clap a cruiser or unsuspecting battleship in every game and she is surprisingly tanky bow-in
Clap em so hard it might as well be a standing ovation.
I still enjoy Roma, but 7/10 times my shells might as well be polar opposites they split so far from eachother

Roma is a very decent ship to me (and a beautiful design). It is also a money maker if you had the fugly beer can camo.
I was so disappointed that the Italian battleship line when it was added wasn't more like the Roma.
That incredible battleship stealth, coupled with good speed and handling, the Roma could make some really interesting plays!
Sure the guns really sucked at longer ranges, but when you suddenly appeared at 11 kilometers away from a target that didn't expect you at all and you absolutely punish their broadside hard, that's when the Roma did shine

I grabbed her back when she was first announced and has been loving her since, she is my most played ship if my memory serves me correctly. The armour is hilarious, troll cruiser HE, bounce shot left and right with the weird cheek armour, concealment, manoeuvrability, all good stuff. At first the gun inconsistencies and short range discouraged me, but over time it slowly grow on me and helps me accept bad rng easier and less salty than before, so in a sense Roma kinda teachs me to enjoy the game rather than raging about things that is outside of your control.
So yeah, just have fun, enjoy beautiful ships in action, fire your guns, if your shell hit then it hits, if not then no worries because you are still afloat, reload and shoot again.
Roma-hating monster. The playstyle it allows is very cruiser-like, but with great armor as well. With proper mastery of this playstyle, the relatively poor dispersion is hardly an issue, and you have a LOT more fun than sitting back and doing almost nothing most of the game.
Also surprised, Roma is one of the fiew tier 8 bbs that I don’t mind being up-tiered in either because the armor will always still hold up.
Roma is glorious! With it's fantastic concealment you can follow up on the DDs and cruisers easier. So i hold fire to smack the hell of what spots me or im being spotted by. Also does very well sneaking around islands. Had some great games in it.
Always good to meet another teacher. Been retired for 12 years (physics, chem and math) played this until they added subs. Enjoy keeping up with the game by watching vids.
I was also surprise to see the Roma. I am mostly a cruiser player but when I want to take a big lady out I always go for the Roma, it is a fun ship and it is not that awful.

I'm kinda surprised, I love Roma. It has some of the best concealment for a battleship. It's salvoes hit like a freight train. I have gotten multiple krackens in her, and I bullied a Montana with her just by staying bow on and returning fire. Roma bow on is one heck of a durable ship. If I was to pick my worst besides the obvious tiger 59, it would be Marceau, I just hate French ships and Marcau is a carbon copy of Khaba pre nerf with a long lasting 20% speed boost. I prefer my Khaba.
Roma is my first all in Premium ship.
back in that day I can choose Missouri or Roma but I'm big fan of Italian ship so I all in buying Roma ( Roma + flag + Kobayashi camo )
and I'm in love with her since then.
she quite struggle when see CV and with her gun dispersion.
but with full camo build she can surprise shot and now she can good in reposition with brisk.

I have the Littorio (same thing) and i love it, yes the shells can be frustrating but i really like to play it and is my most played ship with 800+ games.
Roma was my first premium ever in the game and i still love it.

I totally agree with your opinion about the Roma. But with time I grew to like it.
Roma is a challenge to play, but still is quite fun as a change of pace from most of my German BBs, Ohio, etc. She is more like the mid-higher tier IJN BBs, where you are kiting most of the time. Frankly the ship (type) that I regret the most is any CVs I purchased, most of them were back in the RTS days and I was more interested in that game style. In addition they were historically based ships over the play style (Enterprise, Kaga, etc).
Kaga is still cracked but yeah you’d think they would refund when they completely changed the game for cvs
Roma is easily my favourite T8 BB. Fast, tanky and hard hitting. If it would be accurate aswell it would be OP.
I like my beer can Roma, she's pretty fun in battles without CV
Got the Littorio in the most recent AL colab, I know that it and Roma aren't the best anymore, but they are at least sometimes enjoyable
Similar experience. Got the Roma from a Christmas crate and played it. It was awful, hated it and stopped playing it after maybe 10 matches. A couple of years later and I pull the Beer Can out of a Distant Voyages crate. Say hmm why not. Oh my goodness what a difference learning how to play BBs makes. It is a top 5 most played ship now and I love it.

It’s so different starting wows legends from launch but only just now getting into pc wows in 2023. I’d pretty much buy every premium ship in the game cause they would only have 1-2 come out at a time every so often and $30-60 every few months to support a game I devote a lot of time towards, isn’t a problem for me. I’d also get every campaign/event/research bureau ship too.
Now that I’m just beginning pc so many years after it’s launch, choosing premium/coal ships is a very hard choice.
I got 3 citadel hits on Montana and finished Republique (both t10) from an island cover at close range by using this Roma but it kept me in great tension as I had to think of getting away from their firing range. Situations like this comes rare. Roma, a really hard hitter but not great to have accurate shots from distance in a relaxed mode.
With the good handling and fast turret traverse, Roma is well-suited for the high-speed close-combat of Co-op Mode.
Scenario Mode got retooled into Random Ops and now allows tier 8 ships... Roma's good armor and ability to disengage thanks to concealment makes the ship a good choice for that mode was well.
If someone is on the fence about getting Roma I would advise grinding up the free Italian BB tech tree branch up to the tier 6 or the tier 8 first to get a feel for the line.
It is too bad however that the boosted economy bonus is not longer available.
I opened Roma in a santa container and found her to be alright, but I prefer Vanguard. My worst buy was easily Tiger 59, which almost ruined the game for me
I have fun in my Roma though I did get it when the beer can camo was available so it works.
In a book I have read (several times), NEPTUNE'S INFERNO, it talks about Adm. Willis Lee in the WASHINGTON penning the KIRiSHIMA below the waterline with 16 in shells. The surviving Japanese officers, in their after-action reports, claimed they were torpedo hits... even though there were no US subs in the area and the PTs were elsewhere.

Got her for free out of a SC and i thought first i would hate her. Turns out i love jt and its my most played T8 to this date. This ship wants to be uptiered and the dispersion is actually okay.
My average dmg and WR is significantly higher than on most of my other ships.
It wasn't "bought" as such, but I certainly do wish I chose the Gremyashchy and not the blasted Yubari that I instead decided to pick.......
I got the Roma free - thanks to a CC crate - quite enjoyed playing it in co-op - never bothered playing above t7 in PvP as it just wasn't fun
My worst? Krasny Krym...... 'Back in the day' she was basically a tier-5 Svietlana that could on the old commander system be built to have 16.8k range.... At tier-5 and she has 15x guns. I bought here entirely based around this gimmick that pretty much nothing else in a cruiser slot had at this tier. Her guns were floaty and they didn't hit hard but if you were a good shooter she could zip about and rain long ranged HE or even IFHE fire on everyone and even many battleships couldn't reach her. Post commander rework her range dropped to 14km.....
For me it's my tier 5 DD killer in ranked.
switch to Königsberg. 16.5km long range HE spam works like a charme.
@@chefkoch0406 Aye Konigsberg was my first T5 cruiser many years ago and still roll her often. As far as vanilla went Konigsberg and Kirov were incredible T5 cruisers with amazing range. Kirov is now a premium though.
I love Roma. I mean I only got her like last Christmas crates and I used her like 4 times, won me each battles. Bloody manueverable for a tier 8 BB.
@slmb idea for series: 5 common mistakes in (class) ie subs and not just as the sub player but also ships engaging. Example when to deploy depth charge. Then carry on for the different classes as an ongoing segment

Definitely the Atlanta for me. Bought it less than six months before the commander skill rework was announced.
Atlanta back in the day was a beast with its absurd catapult firepower while shredding planes like crazy. I have good memories of her

The thing i hated the most was its awful shell trajectory, God, it was diifuclt to hit anything beyond 10 km. And the thin armor doesn't allow you to get too close to anything or you get slapped from any angle.
I honestly rather play the Japanese Atlanta, Tokachi.

I love the Roma! Once I learned how to be effective with her it's been great. Go ahead, throw me in a T10 battle. It doesn't matter, she's tanky as hell and the ap will punish anyone that takes her lightly. If I'm having a bad run, I go to the Roma. For some reason if a dd is in range you know you are going to land a couple hits and chunk it.
i wasted my steel on the fdr just before they crippled it, i got the siegfried just before they totally changed it. i regret WG being a bunch of cnts
I got the AL version of Roma by just playing 15 coop battles 😂
Nevertheless I did have expectations that the guns will often "working" as intended and I fully embraced it anyway because everything else about this ship is just great.
Got the Littorio a while back when I was still quite new and to this day I still enjoy her a bunch and she's one of my highest WR ships. I do agree tho, the guns can be really frustrating
Kutuzov, it got hit super hard with the smoke firing bloom change compared to other 152 smoke cruisers. It was a bit much before with old if he, and no smoke firing bloom, but its basically a port queen now.
Kutuzov is still really good, long ranged and accurate guns . Its not significantly power crept because the ability to start fires is still overpowered.
I didn’t realize Kutu’s capabilities when I received her in a Santa crate. Then I realized that she is a ‘rare’ bote. I did some additional research - she has some very very good capabilities! Nice long range (17k) while 14k conceal; great reload, beauty Russian 6:05 ballistics; nice fire starting… the Kutu is an OP vessel and fun to play!!!
@@badgerbrown36 It's fragile for sure, but its definitely a boat that enemy bb's will regret ignoring. I wouldn't call it really OP but its Firestarting is pretty persistent and its great as support if enemy ships are focusing on another target.
In her tier its still a good ship.
Atago is another which has aged really well, still a gold standard for all round capable cruiser that can punish anyone. Both still suffer from carriers, but thats because carriers are stupidly broken, Kutuzov especially used to shred RTS carrier planes, now they ignore your AA and strike 3x for half your health... but thats not a unique issue for the Kutuzov or Atago... when a Kaga can do 50k in 2 flights to basically any ship in the game its not much fun being focused regardless what you are in.
I got Roma for free from some loot box, i cant remember what the event was. But i still have zero games on it other than 2 co-op matches testing its guns. The dispersion was enough to make me scuttle it in port forever

I went to buy the Forrest Sherman; I clicked on it and followed it to the purchase screen. Everything looked good.
Ended up with the Khabarovsk, some-fucking-how, which I very much did not want and still don't like.
I play the game very, very infrequently so it took me a very long time to save that coal from loot boxes; it's the only coal ship I've ever bought. The disappointment keeps me from launching the game to this very day.
the whole Italian BB tree needs a redo. It was made with deadeye was a thing and they need a unique captain.
Roma has performed quite nicely for me. Its a good ship.
Don't have the Roma so I can't judge. My biggest regrets in WOWS:
Premium: Florida
Special Ship: Pommern
Tech Tree Ship: GK

Florida is my FAVORITE T7 BB! The turret layout configuration allows you to nose in and do lots of damage! It fits my play style and I have had very good luck in her, especially Ranked!
Roma is the weirdest t8 bb, she sucks at killing when top tier but rocks when bottom tier. But her bow in tactic get you killed with sub.

The Prem I regret the most buying is Pommern. Before the German BC lines, she was one of the secondary queens. Then WG issued captain rework just months later (and maybe another one short after, I can't remember well). Her main strength was completely thrown out of the window. I was SO annoyed to have thrown 60€ down the drain that I stopped playing for nearly 6 months after that...
IKR? They should offer cash refunds for crap like that.
Still fun to take beer-can Roma out and have people say "what the hell is that?".
That ugly arse camo with the giant beer can atop the main mast. Ugh!. The bonuses made me use that eyesore camo. Glad it was gifted to me.
I got Roma in a container some time ago so I dont regreat, but I regret buying Kobayashi camo. I shold have bought Kii and camo instead.
However he ship I regret the most is not a real money, she is the steel ship FDR. I really feel sheated when I play her.

My biggest disappointment was Krasny Krym.... I have bought A LOT of premium ships. Like around 80 of them, and Krym was the worst.
On the bright side. You buying it had a good purpose. You buying it allowed you too inform thousands of people to not make the same mistake

My least favorite premium I bought would be the ship smasha. It's a Fenyang with a cool paint job. Wish I would've known how bad that thing is

I perceived your video as you regretted buying the Roma however as you matured and grew with the game until you understood how it worked and now with the new set up and being a better player it’s a better ship I have found several ships that I thought were junk I have since gone back set them up and replayed all with the exception of the Sherman which I still don’t get they do very well are really not bad ships it was me not the game

Im not getting on with Dunkerque. I thought the all forward turret layout would be a bonus but I understand why Lyon, my favourite on T7 needs SIXTEEN of these strange size guns to just keep pelting the enemy. I found treating Dunkerque like a bullying giga-cruiser works well but anyone knows Dunkerque's weakness is she doesn't like to be, er taken from behind! I had to look up the Azur lane for this and I was disappointed the woman isn't nervously looking over her shoulder holding her armoured citadel knickers up! The artists have no sense of humour. Nor imagination!

It was a ship I regretting buying initially, until I finally figured her out years later lol
well, for real money i bought only Texas, Kamikaze, Belfast and Tirpitz. So i don't regret about any of it. Other ships are cost me 0 in real money price, so nothing regret about it either, even i played, for example, only 2 battles on Vanguard.
EASY: Guiseppe Verdi: when the secondaries ger no accuracy buff but are sap most won`t hit AND can`t cause any fires. The TECHTREE counterpart (Le Panto) has because of the firestarting thing WAAAAAY better dps from the secondaries than Guiseppe.

The ship I regret buying the most is the Georgia. I played hundred of games with her and never went pass 200k, usually around 100k. Her guns are just soo shit, so inaccurate and too few of them. You can say it skill issue, sure, but I have succes in all others bbs (that I have) except her. The shell feels so heavy and yet always either shattered or ricochet on full broadside bb belt. And the shitty accuracy of the gun is just dreadful. You get 6 shells, 1-2 always either land short or over, at least 2 -3 shattered or ricochet, 1 over pen and the rest pen. Even when I play against a Georgia I always know that player can't do anything to me because his guns are so shit, they are so slow that I can always dodge or shattered on my ship. The only saving grace is its speed but nowadays come up against multiple tier 11 ship, include super cv, yeah, that's rough

I'm gonna have to disagree for once, I got this ship to print credits, and sometimes sure the games where unbearable, and sometimes it was truly amazing hell I even managed to absolute beat the stink out of a wargaming staff member in a musashi with this thing by just angling it well. Currently sitting as my second most played ship under the Yamato.

I got the Roma specifically because of deadeye. That commander skill made the Roma work super well in this current meta. Then WGing takes the skill away and poof its a garbage ship. I want my refund :)

Roma isn't a terrible ship, that said the AA is inadequate so in games including carriers (95%) this ship may get focused down and have a really crappy game. In summary the armour scheme is decent, however citadel protection is unimpressive and no smoke or sap which are the two strengths of the Italian line means there isn't a lot to get excited about. I got it from a Santa crate and wouldn't recommend paying for it as frankly you will have a better time in a Bismark or a Mass (their secondaries actually work)
Roma may have italian bb problems but us gorgeous to look at
yup, no secondaries, crap aa, no sap, so smokes, no gimmicks at all. just a regular bb with decent armor with wonky dispersion.
For me its the San Diego. I bought it because I loved my Atlanta for years. But the fact that it's t8 so it ends up in tier 10 games 90% of the time. With less then 30k HP, shit maneuverability. And armour that can be smacked into oblivion at any angle and any distance. Makes it a fucking horrible ship.
you literally cannot open water gunboat. the only time you can ever fire your guns and not be immediately sent back to Port by a single salvo. Is if you're lucky enough to be tucked in behind an island and your team is spotting.
Not to mention its sap rounds saturate whatever it's shooting at in one Salvo. So you're putting out 14 shells into a Target and maybe getting 500 damage per salvo.
And the heal consumable is just the cherry on the cake. oh you just got bitched slapped 20K damage? Here have 2k hp back
Roma is borning, but reliable.
You want to regret, you get Marco Polo. Upscaled Roma, but less fun. SAPs instead of HEs are not that great in this case.
For me is the witchita...lightcruiser Hull, no super heavy AP...
I think players should never buy premium ships higher than ones they've researched on tech line.. first big ship i got in a super-container was Scharnhorst - MAN was i EXCITED when i got that! :D - when i was still on tier 6 i think for a few lines, early days of play.. A problem today imo is players getting ships on tier 9 etc because you can simply buy them , and you see terrible play and see player has a few hundred matches and no ship about t5! one match i think with a Tirpitz the guy had 70 matches under his belt.. it doesn't work

Sealord coming around again with the questionable take. Roma is a pretty damn good battleship, guns are better a medium to short range and it can survive some intense abuse, how you believe this ship is bad is beyond me
Did you watch the later half where I explain it took me a while to get the hang of her? I regretted buying her in the short term, but learned how to play her and appreciate her in the long term

I always get shit on by Romas so many bounces/over pens and if you spec fire prevention almost impossible to burn, I completely disagree with him on this one.
