- In this video I forge a prototype sloyd axe.
This was a very fun challenge. The idea is that I am going to send it to @The Spoon Crank for them to check it out and hopefully we will start making them available later this year :)

Thank you, sir. I enjoy watching others forge, and I learn from them. Keep the fire and hammer going, fellow Tubal Cain.
Thank you!
Wow... siply wow. Very nice axe....
Beautiful axe
What a wonderful piece of tool Nils! Well done, amazing work as always. Thank you for documenting and sharing the process as well. Looking forward to giving it a swing.
Great job man that’s awesome it is very entertainment video.🌺👌💐
What a great little axe, thoroughly enjoyed watching you make it, top job 👍. Your skills as a blacksmith and axe maker have certainly improved to a very high level over the last couple of years. Regards from Down Under.
Thanks! Apriciate that!
I tested it again today. A very capable carving ax. I like it. Good work guys.
Wow, that ´s amazing, thank you! Will keep my eyes open to get my hands on one of these babies! Thank you!
That's a nice little axe build! Hopefully the spooncrank guy likes it as well and you can start selling them! Thank you for taking time to film, edit and post this video.
Your work is exceptional,I’m never disappointed when watching your videos.
nice little axe, nicely crafted!
It's gorgeous. I love it
Thank you very much!
Beautiful axe. Love watching your videos. Forge On. God bless.
Thanks Jared!
@ very welcome sir.
What a beauty!
Good looking axe. Yes, I'd be proud just to own one.
Wow that's sweet!
Beautiful piece 👌
Thank you!
Bro you're cool. I wish I could work making axes like you, its such a fantastic job
Thanks! Its a pretty cool job tbh
Thats so cool! I really like this channel, keep up the good work!!
Thank you very much!
손도끼 캠핑갈때 좋겠어요...!!!
Sweet axe !
Looks like a really agile axe, should be great as a carver. Great work as always
Hopefully I'll build one but don't have expect to equal
Would be helpful to know weight and measurements to begin with.
Love your work and I'm now a carver and would be a excellent tool. 👌
Thanks 👍
Sløyd øks! Here, sløyd is woodwork/carpentry.
Axe looks seriously sharp!!
Thats what it usually is in Sweden too. But as I mentioned in the video, originally it could mean more things
Good job 👍
Thank you!
Vackert hantverk 🇸🇪👍🏻
Tack!
very nice💪💪👍👍
Great looking little axe. What steel did you use since i didnt see a high carbon bit inserted?
Great looking axe and an excellent job making it!! It would be great to see you're selling these. It would be the one I'd buy since the only wood I cut would be for my smoker
Enjoyed your video and I gave it a Thumbs Up
Thank you!!
@ You're welcome!!
Very impressive grind! Being able to "push" through the paper is not an easy task! Especially with a thicker bevel like on an axe!
Thank you very much!
Snyggt jobbat och kul att se hur den tog form.
GREATTTT
Hi there, my husband and I have been watching your videos and we just live them. My husband would love to have a Sloyd axe as soon as he seen yours. Do you sell your product?
Kim🍁🇨🇦
Yes I do. You can find all info on my website www.nilsogren.com
The solid axes will be available later this year
How often have you cut yourself, when you are handeling the rasor sharp Axe, while fitting the handle?
Love your creations, as always. Please tell me you wear a respirator when using coal as a drift lubricant 🙏🏼
Thank you!
OK I'm inspired. After I try making a kris, I'm going to make a Halterbrad. Spring steel should work. I haven't finished my power hammer. So I think I'm going to drill a hole for the handle and then I'm going to drive a drift into that. Piercing a thick piece of metal
By hand is too much work. Forging is fun.
Brutal always love your axes and the balance is beautiful. What degree do you make your bevel if i may ask?
Thanks! Not sure, i lost my bevel guide so I had to eyeball it.
@ wow that's when you know that you have been doing your craft a long time. I do the same with knife making and Sharpening thanks and keep up the good work 👍
Hi i realy love your videos. Please. What kind od black coating do you use?
I make spoons, bowls and kuksas. I can tell now they are going to say go ahead...make a lot. I am throwing my name already in there. I would like the chissel axe with the bevel on the right. Well done
Thank you very much!
You know... I used to have an Axe really similar to that one that I used for bow making (I generally used it for shaping the profile of the bow)
Well, that type of ax is typically used to shape spoons so it would surprise me if it works great for bows too
Pozdrawiam serdecznie fajne żeczy robisz👍🇵🇱🇵🇱🇵🇱👍
As someone who lacks the powertools but has all the hand tools, apprenticing to my great grandfather and such, what would you recommend in place of the rounded power hammer bit used to draw out the metal?
A cross peen hammer!
@ thank you very much! I have been working for a while now restoring old tools my great grandfather made, namely Tomahawks and skinning knives mostly. But now I’m interested in trying to make my own pieces from scratch as well!
Very nice little axe; I have a similar one from Gransfor Bruks; It is in C45 steel?
Paolo
No its ss2541
Неплохо очень хорошо)
Мне нравится 😽
The perfect tool for cutting pats of butter for my morning sourdough. Also handy for tidying up the old bikini line. I'll take a half dozen. 🥰
J/k. Beautiful job, as always. +1 👍👍
thanks!
Vacker !
Eeeeeeen såndär liknar snart nått i min storleksönskan 😍
he is from sweden and i have met him
Gudd jaab!
Thanks!
Fin yxa 😊👍🏻👍🏻
Tack Magnus!
How do you make the “dark” linseed oil??
I will make a video about that in the future :)
@ I very much would like to see that video. I am trying to get a linseed oil finish on an axe and can’t get more than a bronze color. Maybe I’m not getting it hot enough to darken the oil? But I’m concerned about over tempering the edge.
Excited to see it!!
Tänkte beställa av dig men det står att allt är utsålt?
Helal olsun ellerine sağlık çok özeniyorum sana bunlardan satın alma şansımız varmı
Do let us know when you will make these open to the public. I’m pretty sure I would very much like one. Do you have a website?
www.nilsogren.com
Do you know when your store will be restocked I just found your channel and I went to go look at your store but everything was sold out
Yes ;) I sell axes usually at the end of every moth. You can sign up for the email list to get notified when axes are available. The email list is on my website

Hello, i just bought some Swedish (known name) axe and i see very small "crack" on the bottom of the eye. I find out from other people comments that, this is normal.. Can you, as a professional blacksmith comment on that, is it normal, you see a lot of those on your axes? Thank you.
what do you mean by crack? you mean like a cold shut, or that the steel is broken?
Väldigt vacker yxa
Beautiful axe
Thank you!
