I even miss the old Sci-Fi Channel programming. Summer theme weeks and all that.

I loved Sci-Fi Channel back then - especially Sci-Fi Buzz with Mike Jerrick and Harlan Ellison's commentaries. If I'm not mistaken, they played the Tom Baker episodes with "Howard DaSilva" introductions.

@harleykman USA used to be one of the best channels on television in the late 80's and early 90's. Sci-Fi was USA'a sister station, and they were both AWESOME until NBC Universal took over, and completely ruined both channels.
Dam shame, I miss the old days in the worst way

I can totally understand. Sometimes I run across an old VHS tape I made off a Who episode from the local PBS station back in Kansas City. Happy to provide you with the nostalgia trip.

90s was the heyday of the Syfy channel cartoons, original run programming and past programing

I didn't even know Sci-Fi Channel aired the older Doctor Who, I guess Sci-Fi's history with Doctor Who was much older than I thought

Interesting. They clipped in a bit of Doctorin' the Tardis by the KLF at the end!

Up until recently they were showing anime at least up until 2000 or so. Then it disappeared for a while. It was the first place I'd ever seen Galaxy Express 999, for instance. Or Colossus: The Forbin Project, even. It's obviously a much different network now from the days when they would give Harlan Ellison a TV show.

@jasoncinema I'm with you on this, the only Sci-fi they show is Stargate and Star Trek.

"the Timelords" was the psuedonym they released the LP under. even here in the US. I have it, play it for my kids now that they are hooked on the new series!

Ah, the days when SCI FI was actually The Sci-Fi Channel and not a bastardization of its name.
Maybe one day, we'll actually get a channel devoted to science fiction. One can dream, at least...

Ah... The 'Good Old Days'! When the Sci Fi channel showed science fiction! WHAT WENT WRONG?!?
The origin of the very network was old school SF TV & film! Now they don't even talk about it... let alone air it!
Of course what should one expect? They're showing Everybody Loves Raymond on TV Land!

odd they do that, probably regular fans be confused plus they had a behind the scenes with McCoy
I guess I shouldn't be surprised as Sci-Fi never bothered airing any of the MST3K episodes with Joel Robinson and Dr. Forrester

I remember when i watching the
sci-fi when we have cable here in the
    Philippines. When they change channels
from the states. But now we do not have anymore from the states because skycable never allows the cable from the usa only cable from Asia :-( I wish i have a time machine just like DR WHO so that i go back to the year 1992 when sci-fi channel was air on the Philippines cable directly from the states :-D

Yep. Ever since Bonnie Hammer became president, The Sci-Fi Channel became SCI FI and went to hell. She's not even a fan of science fiction - she said so in a 2005 interview in The New York Times.

    Affirmative.

  • @ShootStyleZombie

so they never aired any of the Jon Pertwee, Peter Davison, or even the later Tom Baker stuff, not even the Sylvester McCoy either?

Game shows and wrestling on Sci-Fi really piss me off. That's precious potential Who-Time those guys are wasting!

  • @loringanzel802

I agree the Sci-Fi channel in some ways was much better between 1992 to 2000 because you have the old classical stuff like voyage the bomber sea Lost in space Time tunnel Land of the Giants and cartoons

@jasoncinema That network went down the tubes and sold out around 2000, starting with that crappy "Dune" miniseries. That was the beginning of the end.

Luis Santiago I'm just glad the higher ups at Comcast finally realized that genre and its fandom make money and refocused and course corrected the channel back to genre and fandom devotion last year.

The original maybe cheesy, but it's loads better than the new one no matter how much hype that show got. People try to make me feel guilty for not liking it. Plain sad.

@gabrielnyc So do I. It was so unique then. Now it's just bland crap, scared to even use the name "Sci Fi" full of forgettable underwear models pouting in dark lighting.
