New sub to your channel. Yes, amazed the bottles were not broke from the pressure of the rocks. Nice embossed finds.

Bottle digging dream to hit such an old privy like that! Amazing finds and just amazing that they survived amongst all the rocks! Have only ever found the base of an open pontil bottle, interestingly as a bycatch in a hole while metal detecting. Amazing cool brooch and nice flat button! The jar lids are definitely early ones. Hope there’s lots more for you to dig there! Take care, ATB and happy digging!

Thanks! Open pontil dumps are very hard to find so it’s amazing when you come across one. In the area where you found part of one you should probe the ground cause if there’s one open pontil chances are there’a gotta be more!

If only! Is a manicured highway rest stop that was a former homestead site up until 1949 with two rows of very old trees. Aside from a good bunch of rest stop era pennies and about a dozen silvers, there’s lots of older square nails, a pewter spoon bowl and my first ever dragon slayer token. Not sure if the 1918 wreathed quarter was from rest stop era or before. The bottle base was in a spot up against one of the old trees so likely escaped getting taken away with all the trash after it was landscaped. The highway was rerouted and I think its former footprint is covered by it along with the likely privy spot.

In my sixtys and originally from niagara. Lived in northern ontario most of my life. Coming to visit this summer. Might be my last trip down as no family alive in niagara anymore. Metal detect once in awhile in old lumber camps up here. Keenly interested in war 1812. Would like to metal detect in queenston or near other battlefield sites. Would like to find a musket ball. It was always on my bucket list. Does anybody know of any land owners that would allow me to detect? I just want to find a musket ball and any valuables (gold, silver etc), i would gladly give to land owner. I retired from law enforcement 11 years ago and would like to make a trip back home. Any help would be appreciated.

Great privy dig. I would have to say B Way stands for Broadway, New York. Those stoneware are nice. The JBD could be as late as 1880, they never changed up to that point. Hopefully you can find some more good glass there!! 👍

Interesting. Just yesterday, I was detecting at Porter Park. I found 1 memorial penny, 3 modern zinc pennies, and a 1960 Jefferson Nickel in circulated but good condition right next to a spent condom which is transparent and tied up at the end.

An old slot screwdriver or a 2 prong carving fork will dig these out of your face ( vertical surface you're digging).

  • @claudebernardin1096

NEVER pull or pry out unless you want broken bottles! Get yourself some smaller tools like long neck screw drivers and ice picks. Ya gave me a heart attack prying your shovel up against the bottle. The idea is to slowly scrape back the debris away from the bottle to clear its path to be gently lifted out. The stress you are putting on your bottles will cause cracks, explosions and chips. Just saying.
