Current versions of brahmos have a rage of 290 km. Brahmos aerospace has declared plans to bring out brahmos-II which will be hypersonic missile with a range of about 1500 km. But that will sometime.

When I was working with Russian aircraft, I got to know about few of these weapons. It was really fascinating to learn how it is integrated into the Indo Russian fighter aircrafts.
Brahmos 2.0 will be based on Zircon which currently Russia delayed technology transfer after some concern from China. Russia China relationship is much stronger than Russia India relationship. Russia will not transfer any technology to India that will be a threat to China..
The problem is its limited Payload capacity for its warhead. 200-300kg payloads are not enough to deal massive destruction. Still it is very useful to neutralize specific key targets and cannot be intercepted by even the likes of Israeli irone dome defense.
Huh? American tomahawk can carry about 3 times the explosive payload than brahmos but the tomahawk can't hull break a ship because it's still not enough for a single missile, but the brahmos without using any payload hull broke ships in multiple tests because the brahmos travels at mach 3 and the speed = power. So lack of payload is not the issue but lack of government support is along with delayed projects.

SM-3 RIM-161 from the US Navy's Aegis System can intercept Brahmos. The SM-3 has a max speed of Mach 13 and a range of 1,200km and a ceiling of 1,050km altitude. It intercept everything from drones, planes, missiles, hypersonic cruise missiles and ballistic missiles.
There is a system which could counter it and it is called the Barrak anti air missiles. This was developed by India and Israel together. These are also the anti-air missiles in the Vishakapatnam class destroyers. These destroyers have 16 Brahmos and 32 barrak missiles. Also, it has been noted that 2 barrak missiles are needed to counter one Brahmos!
Which still has a low very low chances of countering it. The test was also done after the brahmos was at the final stages of navigation to hit the target as at the last stage brahmos doesn't do anything other than fly to Target as all the necessary maneuver are already done so at this stage they has a extreme low chances of countering it.

I believe it can be intercepted if it can be tracked. Some of the Russian Hypersonics such as the Kinzhal is said to have been intercepted in Ukraine. Though there's the chance that it was only possible because it was known well beforehand that it was gonna be launched.
Patriot systems have ability to operate automatically so they can process information about trajectory fast and launch interceptors that will kill target on it’s course. Kinzhal is fast but it takes 5 mins at least to get from launch to it’s target in Ukraine

I think so far most missiles (cruise missiles) were intercepted because NATO AWACS and satellites were giving live information to the ground forces of when and where the missiles were launched from. They even knew when the aircrafts carrying the particular missiles were taking off, which means you know well in advance what direction it's coming from. And can even predict the time slot it'll arrive in. Plus most Russian Hypersonics don't sustain an all out Hypersonic flight, their speed differs from in flight and terminal phase. I think I read that the Kinzhal is greatly slowed during terminal phase that's why it's called a Semi-hypersonic missile and thus interceptible.

The Brahmos is not a Ballistic Missile, so it cannot be shot down with an anti-ballistic missile. To intercept a BrahMos, you will need state of the art CIWS (close-in weapon systems). The S-400 is no ordinary defense system, equipped with advanced radar technology capable of tracking low-flying targets, including cruise missiles like the BrahMos.

The current brahmos missile is surface to surface or air to surface
That means it is not capable of shooting down planes
Basically is not built to shoot down flying objects
But it can be modified to be a interceptor maby in the future

Some of the Russian Hypersonics such as the Kinzhal is said to have been intercepted in Ukraine.
Though there's the chance that it was only possible because it was known well beforehand that it was gonna be launched.
Patriot systems have ability to operate automatically so they can process information about trajectory fast and launch interceptors that will kill target on it’s course. Kinzhal is fast but it takes 5 mins at least to get from launch to it’s target in Ukraine

Kinzhal in particular is launched from bombers or the Mig-31.
I think so far most missiles (cruise missiles) were intercepted because NATO AWACS and satellites were giving live information to the ground forces of when and where the missiles were launched from.
They even knew when the aircrafts carrying the particular missiles were taking off, which means you know well in advance what direction it's coming from. And can even predict the time slot it'll arrive in.
Plus most Russian Hypersonics don't sustain an all out Hypersonic flight, their speed differs from in flight and terminal phase. I think I read that the Kinzhal is greatly slowed during terminal phase that's why it's called a Semi-hypersonic missile and thus interceptible.

The main point is before hitting the target it does an s maneuver which makes is difficult to get intercepted by any sam defense system

35 countries are members of MTCR, one of which is our country India, which became a member of MTCR in 2016 itself, that is why India has Russia's air defense system S400. Even China is not a member of MTCR yet, that is why China has Russia's S300 defense system. MTCR allows any country to buy and manufacture cruise missile or air defense system with a range of more than 300 kilometers with any country.

It can be shot down by indo - Israeli barak 8, one of the reason to work on barak 8 is to counter brahmos, since brahmos it the best among all, and if one can counter brahmos, then they can easily counter any other missile.

Brahmos has extended its range, when launch from the air, it's working on integrating it unto the Rafale or any super 4++ fighter
Can be intercepted. Ofc it is relatively hard one to intercept because fast and sea skimming, but it also is a massive missile that emits crazy amount of radar/infrared signature, so it will be the first missile that is detected. USA tests their air defence regularly with GQM-163 Coyote, which replicates Onyx/Brahmos missiles quite accurately.
