- The 1989 version of Excel's "The Joke's on You" is often cited as a blueprint for Metallica's 1991 song "Enter Sandman", and Excel even sued Metallica in 2003. But Stone's 1988 song "Get Stoned" is a closer fit as a potential inspiration.
Stone - "Get Stoned" (1988)
Metallica - "Enter Sandman" (Metallica AKA "the black album", 1991)

I got one. Near the end of “California Uber Alles” by Dead Kennedys sounds similar to the beginning of “Am I Evil?” By Diamond Head
Stone opened up for Metallica. Kirk heard this before writing enter sandman.
Interesting, I didn't know that. Thank you for sharing.
It's obviously similar, but it's also obvious what the superior riff is.
Well said 🤘
Yes, it's pretty obvious that Get Stoned is more interesting
Get stoned is superior. Enter Sandman is plain and boring.
Yes. One still sounds fresh and trashy even in 2024, the other is lamestream Metallica.
Is someone gonna tell then about Tapping Into The Emotional Void?
I get there point but its more that they should be flattered that a huge band like Metallica should take it. I guess the money has a lot to do with trying to sue. However when Metallica decided to 'go disco' the mainstream loved it. Personally i think 'One' is the greatest songs of modern America and should be the national anthem.
Dude shit like this is so pointless. This is as much a ripoff as Angel of death is of Metal militia or Perish in flames. It’s most likely coincidence. They all play thrash, similarities will occour without it being a fucking concious ripoff
