Remember a HP is about 750 watts but no motor is 100% efficient so a 3KW motor is about 3 HP or maybe a bit more, and the range quoted is for slow speed on level ground. Climb even a slight grade or go faster and the range will be well under 1/2 of rating. Be careful of ground clearance, Overstay Road is always hitting small speed bumps and knocking his brakes out and damaging the e-bike. He has the 3 wheel version.
I have been looking closely at the e-bike as I get older. Bad knees make getting into a jeepney difficult and folding myself into a more expensive trike is no fun either. Parking is easier with these, also. It's my next significant purchase.
you can get a brand new 125cc motorcycle for about $1200 usa . they have different styles ,but most have low frame in front of the seat for easy mounting . it take literally a few minutes to fill up at about $10 . my 150 enduro will go for 2 or 3 weeks since town is close and i have had it up to 100 kilometers per hour. personally i will buy a electric vehicle of any kind when hell freezes over . i set my trip odometer ,when i get close to 280 millimeters its time to refill . although i still have more liters left in the reserve . no range anxiety.
I love the little e bikes. I've ridden bikes since I was 30. had to stop riding when I hit 60 due to back issues. I still like the big bikes under me, however, at my age now, a smaller, lighter bike would be better for me. only problem is the slow speed. 40k isn't very fast. but, at my age, 73, slower is safer for grandpa, hahaha.
For the Philippines narrow roads and expensive gas, kei cars are your friend, there are a lot of kei cars here at the price of E-bikes/E vehicles. Or you could also ask local builders to build you a custom vehicle suitable for you.
Great video Gio! We're after something exactly like those 3 and 4 wheelers. We have a mid-size SUV which is a pain in town up here in Guihulgnan with all the pedi-trikes, trikes etc on the narrow streets in town. The pedi drivers are even more oblivious to what's going on around them than your average Duma trike driver. Also parking is a real issue here. Thanks for showing us another option outside the Piaggio and Bajaj petrol 3 wheelers.
Excellent information - I could see buying both the cycle and the 4-wheeler and using them as weather permits. 100km travel range is very good for being on an island.
There are some complicated legal definitions and requirements regarding where you can legally use these things. Some do require registration and licensing. Some of the bigger cities have strict enforcement and some Province areas haven't the resources to enforce. The laws however are nationwide and you can get your vehicle impounded and a fine if you have a vehicle that requires a licence and registration and you can't produce documentation. The same applies if you stray onto the wrong kind of road with the wrong class of vehicle.
I love scooters in the 50 to 125 cc category. I used to have 2 scooters when I was younger, a 50cc and a 125cc, then sold both. Then recently,, I had a 3 wheeled trike scooter, 50cc but felt it was too slow for the extra weight it had. Enjoy Gio and thanks!
Not located in Dumagete, but the three and four wheeler might be perfect for my Filipina when she goes to the market every morning and buys food for her family's food stand.
theres other videos showing people getting tickets in Manila. I know 3 wheel bikes are not allowed in national highway. in CDO, other cities in Mindo. is not allowed it a1500p ticket, and also the" Baobao" tuktuk.
I drive my car with the windows down slightly so I can hear bikes (they pass on both sides here) I'm an old biker in the states. I've always believed that loud pipes save lives (being heard will keep people from turning into your space). I'd love to ride one for fun, but only the 2 wheel version. 😊
When I was still in the US I had sold my car to come to the Philippines. Due to circumstances beyond my control I couldn't come so I was carless. I bought a Ebicycle, I had the most fun driving that thing
My story too, David, sold my beloved jeep wrangler unlimited- PersyGT black mamba jeep to come here. I am looking at the 4 wheel only due to severe health challenges. I want baskets in the front and back too. Stereo or blu tooth would be cool! All be blessed, safe, healthy, happy, prosperous and great.
I prefer buying these golfcart 4wheel EV. Just need to improve the battery. But in the end I suppose it's the best cheap solution to a car in the city areas.
Hello from Urdaneta City, Pangasinan Province, Luzon. I actually have a 4 wheel version e-bike. It's been converted to solar charging. I've only had to plug it in 4 times in 6 months. Also, have the Yamaha Aerox 155. It's been sitting for a while now. Only used for longer trips outside of the range of the e-bike. Anyway, I did it myself. Solar charger system upgrade for less than ₱10,000. Purchased everything from Lazada online. It's not rocket science. And, after 6 months use it's pretty much payed for itself.
I suggest you get a timer and a circuit breaker inline when you charge it , even if it has something on the bike , those batteries have been know to spontaneously combust and basically explode , don’t just plug it in a leave it, they don’t explode like a bomb but more like a giant flare , people have died
Range is usually a big problem on ebikes. 15 to 40 mile range is typical on a charge. For a 52 volt system, mileage is approximately equal to battery amp-hour capacity, so 15 amp hr goes about 15 miles.
This is good info for me as I am planning to look for a place in Dumaguete and an E-bike would be perfect for me. Nice to know that there is a place there to buy one and for service as well. I am not into motorcycles at all and even though I drove truck for a living I am not sure I want to be driving a car there. Also it is cheap transportation
I really like the idea of a e bike. But after living here and seeing them on the highway. there just to slow! I'm not sure if the batteries are old or there unstable at speeds. I think their fine on the side roads sometimes but a lot of them on the main highway are a hazard.
Instead of the scooter a regular Electric Bicycle rides smoother faster and has a much longer range. I have been riding an E bicycle to and from work to save on gas for over a decade here in Florida. The one I have now goes 35mph not kph and gets 30 miles range between charges and I only paid $1,200 for it on Amazon.
Yes it is, butnsadly its only widely available in luzon areas.i mean those m3,other sportbike models ,those force scooters and other adult motorbike designs..in zamboanga city and some cities, u can only see erv's and kiddie ebikes on sale..😔
Dp ypi meed a licence to ride these ? I had one in Oz 200 watts no licence required to ride on city streets.. in fact you can hire e-bike in Melbourne to ride around town..
Hi Geo. Do you know if these 3 & 4 wheeler electric vehicles are considered a motorbike or a car? These vehicles look interesting but I only have a car licence but not a motor bike licence. Thanks
You seemed a bit tense while driving. Perhaps you're just too use to motorcycles. I was actually looking at other options, such as ebikes. I was also looking at the requirements needed for LTO actions. Some confusion as to what's what for licensing needs or even registration requirements, but hopefully I can find out what's what by the time I get over there.
Hmmm..... Male card or not 🙂. It seems to be a rather cheap option really. Could be a good option for a first mean of transport when you arrive. Would be good to keep as complimentary mean of transportation if you buy a car later on. I would never go long and fast on a real bike anyway, since I never drove one.
I was thinking the same thing. AFAIK, in the U.S., it's only an "E-bike" if it has pedals. I believe that a pedal-less vehicle like those in this video are considered electric motorcycles and require registration.
When I was in Manila I rode in one of those electric tricycles and I thought we were going to get killed. It couldn't get out of its own way lol . Not a safe form of transportation for me .
@@MichaelSmith-hp8qw Not allowed in Freeport zone according to Police. LTO has restrictions on whats allowed. Better to have a scooter than risk constant interrogation IMHO

Hey Gio, nice presentation, a good running short errands scooting around town option, I can see this being a good workaround for someone.

Yea, those could come in handy for that.
I have a friend got a e trike hauls 4 people and a canopy for rain ect they say go 125 miles on one charge with 3 to 4 people on it
Marko AKA Overstay Road has one and he likes it but keeps damaging it underneath on speed bumps for the low clearance.

Yea, it isn't for me but I can see the appeal for some people.

Some of the E-bikes that resemble the mountain type bikes can go 50 plus miles an hour, they are insane and cool.

Overstay Road has a few videos using the E-Bike if people are interested in seeing it operate. Mark calls his three-wheeler the Tesla Chopper.
It's nice to see the different options.

Electric bikes are perfect for someone that doesn't drive much or leaves for months at a time because you don't have to worry about the gas going bad.
This was something I was wondering about, I was also thinking a side by side.
why is it shaking so much, or maybe it was the camera .....
Very practical options e-bikes, 3, 4 wheels, scooters for the brave ones...,
Thx a lot Gio
For the cost it seems like a good deal. Electric motors shouldn't need much maintenance and torque should be good.
If you're just riding around the city or short it's ok ride but for long rides no.
I suggest you get a timer and a circuit breaker inline when you charge it , even if it has something on the bike , those batteries have been know to spontaneously combust and basically explode , don’t just plug it in a leave it, they don’t explode like a bomb but more like a giant flare , people have died

Great option
Great video
Makes you think about where we will be in 5 to 10 years and if it's worth it to buy a vehicle that's gas etc.
Gio, VERY interesting topics, I contact you when I'M moving to the Philippines. THANK'S!!
Thank you
A lot of ladies have these in my neighborhood. I think the girls only like to go about 20 klicks an hour
It’s a golf cart on 3 wheels….not for me…
I'll take the two wheeler

For sure!

How fast in mph does it go? Is it safe enough to drive in Dumaguete traffic, can it keep up with traffic flow? Great video😀👍
With those 60-70km ranges you can run errands or visit friends, but not travel to distant areas or cities.
I really like the idea of a e bike. But after living here and seeing them on the highway. there just to slow! I'm not sure if the batteries are old or there unstable at speeds. I think their fine on the side roads sometimes but a lot of them on the main highway are a hazard.

Thanks, I enjoyed the video

Hi Geo. Do you know if these 3 & 4 wheeler electric vehicles are considered a motorbike or a car? These vehicles look interesting but I only have a car licence but not a motor bike licence. Thanks

Because I was driving with one hand and filming with the other hand.
When I was in masbate an October November I saw several of those I am a person that is uncomfortable on the bike so I may consider something like that

How does handle on corners since it cant lean?
You lean away from the corner to counter balance.
I would call that an e scooter, not an e bike
I was thinking the same thing. AFAIK, in the U.S., it's only an "E-bike" if it has pedals. I believe that a pedal-less vehicle like those in this video are considered electric motorcycles and require registration.

How do you like it compared to the PCX 160?
I love it, it's more sporty. But the Honda pcx is quite nice too.
Floods, bad roads, heat, rain will your destroy any e bike in the PHL. Add to that the risk of battery fire.
So do you need to wear a helmet on the covered 3 & 4 wheel versions ?
That's a good question
No you don't
Nice.
These are actually pretty cool and a good option for some people. Good vid gio. Id ask about warranties. Who knows the reliability

No and no iand they on't require me registration. I have a two wheel scooter

No 🤦🏽♂️🤣
