    We lost a lot through the strike, but it was a just cause, we had to fight and should always be very proud of what we did.
    We had no choice but to stand up and fight for our pits and communities a way off life was about to disappear forever and we had to try and stop that happening. We should never forget that year and every striking miner who remained Loyal to the end should be immensely proud.

    The seaside industry was screwed in the sixties when the miners decided to spend their money in Benidorm instead of Blackpool. Then mines were screwed in the eighties when the few remaining B&Bs decided to use gas and not coal. WHAT GOES ROUND COMES ROUND.

      Yes agree totally in what you have said as for me from a mining village and the strike came BUT BEFORE THAT many miners encouraged their sons to do well at school to get a surface job as a clerk etc....... MANY MANY MANY Miners would openly say "no son of mine is going down the pit" as they KNEW how crap cold dangerous it was
