Cry me a River....handing the Tories victory in 84/85 and then being betrayed by them. Who'd have thought it.....
Should’ve come out in 84!
Arthur Scargill Was Right In Everything He Said In The 1984/85 Miners Strike And The Nottingham Miners Should Have Listened To Arthur And Backed The Strike And Saved The Mining Industry.
Yes they should, instead they will always be known as scabs
Thanks UDM, you helped keep Thatcher in power and you got what you deserved
After watching this programme. I know now there is a god and at last these SCABS are paying the price for their 30 pieces of silver. And i hope they suffer hardship for the rest of their lives. The real miners will never forget what they did never ever.
@@robertevans9996 move on Robert, the scabs, as you put it, didn't make Wilson shut more pits than Thatcher, And all the years Blair was in power, he never opened any new pits, or kept any old ones open, Labour were closing pits all over the country for years and the NUM, and Yorkshire, didn't give a toss, until it affected Yorkshire.
@@andrewh5457 scab, live with it
@@alanbradney3617 And if yer man Scargill had done it properly instead of trying to bully people to his way he would have stood a better chance...record coal stocks , coming into the summer, divided workforce...then in the end the shithouse sues the very Union he represented over his Barbican flat....me , I never missed a day after watching a defenceless man get put on the floor and kicked to shit on the day we had our ballot by Arthur's thugs, I was never backing him. We didn't do it for thatcher and neither did Leicester or Staffs or the North West, we did it against him, so yeah call me what you like , but id stand up again tomorrow if needed. Why do you think Corbyn got thrashed 30 year later?
Scab? Me? Whatever youth...fuck Arthur
@@alanbradney3617 in one sentence you sum up what you are....I'd do it again tomorrow against that man
The rush for gas was a massive mistake, emptied entire gas fields in in only 5 years which should have lasted 30 years.
Well done Michael Clark, 👏 you foresaw what we are seeing now, coal is cheaper, gas running out, the consumer pays the price we rely on Russia.
As a S/Yorks mineworker I spent a year on strike in '84. Looking back now it's easy to see we were all pawns in a huge political game. The govt used classic divide & rule tactics. Miner turned against miner when we should have all been united in a common cause. I'm proud to have stood up for what I believed in, I don't have hatred for Notts miners or the deputies who could have stopped all pits. But the tories & thatcher, I'll hate them til the day I die.
The unions fucked you, especially Scargill.
@James Henderson if thats the case why am i working in a mine in Asutralia ? the demand for coal has never been higher ,Thatcher screwed all of you and used the oil and gas field money to prop up that economy while she soild off your manufacturing industry engineering a situation that she could use to con you out of your livelyhood
@@jimmyjimmy17 : Australian coal mines are either open cast or are not deep. The British mines were entirely different. They were unprofitable and needed to be closed. Using violence, as the stikers did, to stop others from working, is the mark of a selfish moron.

As a derbyshire miner who was on strike.. once a scab owes a scab you betrayed was your fellow num miners rot in hell with Thatcher
Ah but they still earned more than you and kept their jobs longer!
Didn't have the guts to fight in 1984, didn't even have the guts to fight in 1992, now listen to them squeal about how unfair the government is for closing down their pit. As for Thatcher's best buddy at the time, Roy Lynk. and his comical one man stay down and his "Iv'e been shafted" squeal....you sure have Roy and well deserved it was too.
Silverhill men had the chance to fight against pit closures in 1984/85, they choose not to. Then, when it was their turn they squealed like the scabby pigs they were, tough luck as far as I'm concerned.
You'll be alright boys, your UDM will look after you. Should have come out with the NUM in the first place.
Stuffed by the Thatcher government that they supported, I won't say that it served them right, but living proof that what goes around comes around in the end. Sad for all those that lost their jobs.
They would have closed the mine eventually anyway
@@PibrochPonder not so brutally as the tories finished it.

Did Lynk hand his OBE back,or was it just bullshit for the TV cameras?
Silverhill coal seams were only 4 feet thick at the most.It would have shut anyway.Remember crawling like a rat in less than 2 feet of room.Glad wasn't asthmatic as I am now.
I wonder what we would have done differently in 1992 if we could have looked forward to 2021 and seen the dog's dinner of an energy policy we now have.
Ashamed of them when local people were supporting NUM families.

Didnt the turncoat lee anderson now a tory stand on the picket lines? he seems to get the tag "scab" a fair bit
The UDM got what was coming to them for working through the strick

@@jackthegamer4019course they would 🙄 scabby bastards
How do the former miners who crossed picket lines feel that they were shafted and betrayed? Do they feel shamed for working through the strike? Regardless of the ballot waffle thy they come out with solidarity always comes first, also in 1981 when the NUM held a national ballot Notts miners voted against strike action.
what happened was the death of the miners, communities, a disgrace
The scabby bastards in Notts closed the industry as much as thatcher did
They should have filled the shafts in while lynk was still underground.
9:28 Building gas power stations to bring competition… there’s absolutely no competition when the alternatives close down leaving behind a monopoly that can do what it wants (including price hikes). It’s the exact same as big supermarket chains that have killed off all the small family owned shops on the high street.
These tories weren’t about competition but only interested in the transfer of wealth, making their rich even richer. The tories and their donors would have been major shareholders in the the gas industry and want to crush the working class and trade unions.
He doesn’t care that it’s you and I the consumer who will pay more and suffer.

And then we started to buy it from China ...
The government didn't foresee the energy security risks with the dash for gas, we could never be self sufficient on gas, thanks to Russia my bills have doubled 🤷🏼♂️
The EU and NATO caused this war in Ukraine.
3.2p per Kwh. Can you imagine…
All i can say is should have listened to Arthur.
It all went wrong when Scargill refused a vote on striking. He allowed Maggi to build massive stocks of coal. Scargill split the workforce then took on the government in the summer with massive stocks. Britain and communities lost was enormous.
Scargill was stupid. He thought he could do the same to Thatcher as he did to heath. That was a massive mistake. We are still sitting on coal, billions of tons.
We need good government to sort the energy we have.
Hope I live to see the gas run out and they start begging to reopen all the mines 😁
They are shipping it in from Qatar and bringing in the wood from Canada. They are never opening the coal mines again. It’s a dead industry

Coal mining should have been phased out during the 1960s.
What did they expect the coal mines were loosing money hand over fist, tax payers shouldn’t have been expected to subsidise the coal industry. Mrs thatcher did you right thing
🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I'm so glad we closed the coal mines.
Why ?
@James Henderson so neither worthless nor dead, just cheaper somewhere else. It's true that just about everything we produce can be made cheaper abroad and imported. It's not the only consideration. Deep mining actually carried for more than 20 years after this film.
Stupid Comments,, The Miners got what they deserved, At one time they were paid 22% more a week that any other factory worker in the UK and then when the gap closed they then wanted a 43% pay rise, It serves them right, Every winter they came out on strike and innocent families and Old Peoples Homes across the UK had to suffer Blackouts and Loss of Heating all because of their Greed, Maggie is the one who said No More, But Ted Heath should of done it back in 1970 and when Wilson/Labour got in he should of said no more but it took a Woman 12 years later to put a stop to the Blackmailing Miners, No one had a Gun to their heads saying they had to be miners so if the Money wasn't good enough then they should of got another job, These Blackouts went on for months at a time, Thanks to Maggie we can no longer be Blackmailed by the Miners and they are Victims of their own stupidity, HooRay for Maggie, Bless Her.
