    Living near where the Gulf spill happened in 2010, I can say this could have been the best method for the cleanup instead of the polymer they used little bags of HAIR! The oil stuck to the individual hairs and were able to be removed from the gulf from ships. Great demonstration!

  • @tutudt1

    Is this polymer safe for animals to eat? Also, like some other comments mentioned, if an animal eats some of the polymer that has the oil around it, would it hurt the animal?

    Just one question. Can you recover the oil from the adsorbed polymer? Or else it creates another environmental hazard.

      That's why he said it can be burned for energy recovery or you can incinerate like trash.

    Wait, so does that mean that you could use that pink precipitate to make oil back again? Like reusing it?

    • @dissidify
      @dissidify 8 років тому

      if that was true we would probably use the polymer to store it so to prevent the spills ever happening assuming the special polymer was also reusable

    A 1:1 ratio, that's great, so assuming the spill is contained, you would put a million gallons of that polymer on a million gallon spill. Of course, large spills are never effectively contained, so you would need even more polymer. How would you recover a million gallons of oil-soaked polymer, and how would you transport it? Where would you dispose of it?

      At least there is something that shows progress in science. Someone spent hours in the lab to develop this polymer you are criticizing.

      Assuming you meant soap, It will form a scum which if denser than ocean water will just sink to the bottom. Just like washing oil/grease on clothes with soap.
