After 30 years Cubase continue to show me how great it is. Thanks Dom, this video is another great surprise for take new advantages in our daily work. This software reminds us that creativity is the only limit!
Great content as usual, Dom! I've switched from Pro Tools to Cubase and ultimately ended up in Nuendo, and the Flexibility of this Mixer is insane. The only thing I'd like to see one day is a compressor gain reduction metering directly displayed in the mixer, like PT introduced a while back. Also I'd love to see some Tips on how to efficiently use Mixer Snapshots, especially in more complex and automated sessions.
You’re always so logical Dom and always explain exactly why you’re imparting these pearls of wisdom. 1 quick query, to revert to ‘show all tracks’ do you not make a shortcut for that or is there a button I’m missing please?
Wishlist for Cubase 12.5 / Next Major Update: 1. Full Screen View 2. Movable Mixer tracks 3. Folder Buss Track 4. Automation Workflow like Ableton 5. Advanced Sampler 6. Click anywhere Playhead like Ableton ( Without Modifier like current ) 7. Custom folders for samples in browser like in Ableton 8. Refreshed UI ( Although I like the 12.0 UI )
Thank you Dom for the great ideas. Could you make please also video for the master metering - there are lot of scales, what are their meanings and how to use respective scales for the prepare setting to make correct loud mix for mastering. Thank's in advance.
Dom, I've seen already some of your v ery helpful videos. Thanks a lot. I have a question regarding yor mixer configuration for recording. Wouldn't it be more useful to see as well the channels you are just recording to ? In most cases you would have more tracks than interface inputs.
Cubase hands down has the best mix console.. Even Protools' doesn't compare. The only thing I can think of that it's missing is compression gain reduction, rms and peak metering next to the fader. Then it would be perfect.
I am now a logic User after using PT for even , I am thinking of moving to Cubase mainly for the view between cycle function , with 400 track in Logic I am finding it very slow trying to hind usage etc . I just wonder if Cubase use a lot of CPU as it has Eq , filter etc on ever Channel ?
The main time saver would be how to select multiple objects to apply the same functions, like loading an FX chain, or turning off plugins/strip sections on multiple channels at once. How does that work?
Great vid as usual Dom. Steinberg's problem is that they always hide all of their tricks in plain sight leaving the user in the dark. By the time you work out where you are they have moved on. Having said that I still get inspired by watching that first waveform emerging on the screen.
If I get cubase artist 12 and record my vocals using audacity and put those vocals into cubase artist 12 MIDI will it automatically put in the music chords into the cubase artist 12 daw like guitar and base and drums and keyboard and synth ?
question, why use a VCA fader to link the tracks when you could just route them to a summing buss? then you'd only need to have 1 instance of an eq to affect both channels instead of 2. I'm still not fully understanding of the benefits of VCA faders
One benefit of the VCA faders would be for extra control when double tracking or using multiple mics on an amp. Then you can set the blend and only adjust one fader for the level. You could do this with a bus track, but if there are other tracks going to it as well for processing you would only be able to adjust the level of the whole group and not just the blended sound.
VCA faders are just an extra control for linked channels. They are very useful to fine tune automation when you don‘t want to mess with existing automation and add something on top of that. Here, it’s all about the link of the two channels. This can make sense if you e.g. want to use compression on multiple channels independently of each other but in the same amount. For hard panned L/R tracks you can switch off stereo link on a group channel compressor, if the plugin supports that, but otherwise it could make sense to have two separate mono compressors with their settings synced.
The most important of these tips - two, for me - are available in Elements, but activated in slightly different ways than shown here. Unfortunately, you cannot save configurations as a preset. (Sure, build them into a template, but I return to my mixes often and the configurations are not available in previous files.)
8:51 min is there a mono bounce in cubase?, if i bounce a mono vocal its after the bounce stereo wave form, go to pool convert it back to mono make a mono track and drag the wave form to the new mono track is there a faster way for this ??

ITS REALLY WORKED LOL THANK YOU DUDE
Nice one, Dom! Is there a way to make Mix Configurations global instead of having to set them up on a project by project basis?
That would be really useful, but sadly not, unless you configure it in your template…

Is there a way to link the mixer zones between the mixer window and the lower zone in the pjoject window ??

Dom, do you every use any other DAW? Just curious to know.
Didn't know I could render the entire track!
what is the MIDI controller in front of you, above your keyboard?
The main time saver would be how to select multiple objects to apply the same functions, like loading an FX chain, or turning off plugins/strip sections on multiple channels at once. How does that work?

thanks for the "copying the whole channel settings" trick
I noticed you click on the arranger track and the range auto-snaps to the section - is there a key+mouseclick you're using to do that? Very helpful...

Hey,
Hi boss can I get to send you my hip hop song to mater it for me for free please I would appreciate a lot am from Africa and need your help 🙏

Yep. They don't make 'em anymore. Mine died 2 years ago (would no longer connect) and I picked up the SSL UF8/UC1 and am very happy with the combo.

Mine physically stopped working. There was a problem with the fader.
