I’m in school too at 34 years old for software development. Went through a divorce while going to school, working full time, bodybuilding and moving into my first apartment. I can totally relate to the breakdowns. It always happens when you don’t expect it. I can’t even tell you how many times I did that while doing something mundane like laundry. Lol.

Kayleigh I first found your makeup tutorial videos and workout/healthy food vlogs like back in my high school sophomore days. Now I am in my first semester in community college to obtain my radiology certification, after 7 years of working in healthcare; and you are studying to obtain your BSN! I am so proud of us! I recently refound your videos after years as I randomly wondered what you might be up to nowadays. I don't even have friends I check up on in this way. I feel like you're the sister I've never had! Thank you for your videos, bringing us along with you in your journey and for being so human and relatable. Wishing you health and happiness. You will be a phenomenal nurse! 😭

Just finished my last semester of my accelerated nursing program! It’s such an adjustment to start nursing school. A few tips... don’t read the book unless you truly don’t understand anything about a topic. Definitely don’t waste time on flash cards. Use active recall methods to study. Study the powerpoints, read corresponding sections in your ATI or HESI books (it simplifies all the content you really need to answer questions and narrows down what actions you’ll take/manifestations) and get the test bank for your exact text book. Read the rationales from every question in the test banks and it should help you a lot on your next exams (sometimes even a question or two will wind up on your exam). Good Luck! I got around a 3.8 every semester of nursing school. You are super smart Kayleigh and I know you can do it too! Also, it’s okay to fail an exam every once in a while and still come out with a good GPA.

👏👏❤️ The best advice! I've even not bothered with whichever class's textbook. Paying attention to what the professor covers is the most important info, but I've had some veer off and use whatever media..threw me off and am now dealing with ridiculous anxiety that kills my concentration. Just started talking to a therapist, though! ❤️

Always do lots and lots and lots of practice questions on the topics your testing on! That's my BIGGEST tip on testing in nursing school! Also, if you need testing accommodations see if your school provides that so you can take your test alone in a quiet room!

  • @stormskies3861

When I did my nursing degree, 10 years ago now, I quickly realised NOT to use and rely on the textbooks so much. Instead I used the handouts given to me in lectures, I made lots of notes during lectures and then condensed those once I got home. I Googled the heck out of things and used UA-cam too. You need to take a multi faceted approach to learning this stuff. Do not sweat your grade on your first exam, this happened to me too, I didn’t get the grade I wanted on my fist exam then I realised I had to calm down about it all. Chill, don’t worry so much, enjoy your lectures and the things you’re learning and it’ll all fall into place I promise you! Also another thing is please don’t worry about what other people are doing, or the grades they’re getting or whether they’re finished an exam before you! Forget what they’re doing and just focus on you. You’ve totally got this! Look how far you’ve come in a very short space of time ❤️❤️

You’re gonna be ok. You’ll figure it out. When I was in nursing school, some of my classmates had special circumstances where they can’t concentrate when taking tests with others. My school accommodated them. You should ask your school, too. I’m sure they can assist with that. It’s not that you didn’t study enough, you have the knowledge, just needs to learn and practice questions and get used to the way they ask you. Good luck. You got this ❤️❤️❤️

You sound like me when I started dental hygiene school. I may have some tips for you! 1) there is probably no getting ahead, just take everything day by day and know that as long as you are on track and not behind you are good but working ahead probably isn’t feasible
    2) All of our exams are super comprehensive as well, maybe try answering all of the objectives from each chapter as this is what the instructors typically take the most important information from and are likely to test you on
    3) I also learn well with practice tests/notecards, check out the quizlet website. You can easily make flash cards on there and usually someone has already made a quizlet for whatever you are studying
    4) maybe try studying with classmates, our class found that studying or working together helped a ton! We would all make reviews before our exams, then the night or so before exams we would all get on a zoom meeting and go through our reviews. This helped me a ton to hear the information out loud and compare my review with everyone else’s
Hope these tips help and good luck! :)

Welcome to the hell of nursing exams. The first couple I didn’t do great on either but found my groove and perfected my methods, and did better and better as I went and now ultimately have honors in my Masters on my way to my NP. Coming in I was the same as you, it was super competitive and I had to beat out a lot of people (and actually only had a GED so it was an uphill battle just to get in for sure!) Don’t stress too much about CRNA school just yet… get the RN first. You need RN, BSN, and then critical care experience, so one step at a time. ❤️❤️❤️

@@ForeverYours0727 - Absolutely, I’ve been a follower for years girl. I have literally no doubt you will achieve your goals! One step at a time sounds so cliché and I know how it is to have that end game in sight.. but for mental health and to be able to focus it is best to make the small goals. Something I love to do is a vision board in the front of my yearly planners and I add things related to the longer goals, little reminders to keep the eye on the prize but in the moment, staying on task to get that current piece done is best. You got in against all odds, you’ll do it again for grad school!

You’re stressing now over getting A’s and B’s but in all honesty, by your last semester you’re going to just celebrate bc you passed. Nursing school is hard. You’re gonna cry and stress and possibly at one point or another just not even want to study for a test due to exhaustion and just thinking there’s no way you’re going to understand everything in one night when life gets crazy. It happens. Nursing school is super overwhelming. It’s ok to cry and stress. It’s normal. When you graduate all of this will be a blur. I did CNA, LPN, and RN. Doing my BSN and I’m just over it. As long as it’s a passing grade I’m good to celebrate. You got this!

@@ForeverYours0727 when you go into your first job your first year working as a new grad RN is going to be a lot crazier of a roller coaster! Just remember to always ask questions! It’s impossible to know everything in medicine, it’s always growing and evolving. You’ll never stop learning as a nurse no matter where you go. But that first 6months-1 year is a time you’ll learn the most and question yourself too. You made it out of nursing school for a reason. You’re licensed. You did it. Just gotta learn how to be a nurse doing skills. Nursing school teaches you how to pass NCLEX, not how to be a working nurse. I’d wish they teach more about charting and hands on skills in school, sadly it’s not enough time. Their main focus is to get you to pass NCLEX. Schools rely on us passing first try so they keep their accreditation and money

First of all, I want to say congratulations, I am so proud of you! Nursing school is no joke! I’m starting my second semester, it took me a while to adjust especially because some professors are really into the textbook and others are more broad if that makes sense? I would say get to know your instructor, I have to read the textbook I don’t even bother looking at the PowerPoints. I read the chapters about three times, the first time I just read the second time I highlight and third time is when I start creating my own notes. The notes I create is what I usually use for an exam, I usually study about five days before an exam with my notes and lots and lots of practice questions relating to the topic. We use ATI, that’s where I get my practice questions from related to the topic we are studying.
I wish you the best and keep pushing don’t feel discouraged. Everything will be worth it at the end! I’m so excited for you 🤩

You're so right about grades mattering for graduate studies. I'm glad you're focusing on your grades now. I'm currently doing the primary healthcare NP program in Canada (we don't have the option of CRNA option in Canada unfortunately) and going through the application process, grades definitely matter. Also, to study for nursing school, I did a bunch of practice questions. For the RN licensing I devoted the last 2 weeks to doing 100% practice questions. Now that I'm in the NP program it's harder for me to find practice questions because the tests are so different to the NP programs in the states. But for notes, I usually condense all my notes into one pager chart form notes. It's really helped me so far. Good luck on the rest of the semester 😀

    Hi Kayleigh!
Some tips that helped me in my first semester is going through the PowerPoints and quizzing myself constantly. Some of my peers created quizlets as they learned in lecture so that way we practice recall rather than just memorizing. I only looked at the textbook if I did not understand something, wanted to go more in depth in a topic, and looked at review questions (some were used on my exams). I never made flashcards or read the entire chapters in the textbook because they take up so much time, and I felt that I was not really absorbing material. I hope some of these strategies help and honestly I think the greatest obstacle nursing school puts us is learning how to critically think and apply knowledge. Just know many others and I are right here with you going through nursing school together

Hi Kayleigh, I hope you are doing well. I'm getting nervous just watching this! 😬 If you need me to say a prayer for you I will. I don't have any advice but have faith that things will get better and you got this Chica! ❤ It's OK to cry and let things out, I do it often and it helps me tremendously! Or meditate may help too if you have the time. Good luck sister, God bless 🙌 🙏 💖

Thank you for sharing Kayleigh. In the real world the Trach patient will be coughing up like crazy so you will probably want to wear a gown and face shield but definitely not appropriate in the practice setting lol. You'll see what I mean.
Wonder skin looks really cool. NYX is such a great brand. I swear by their Micro eyebrow pencil.
Nursing school is tough Kayleigh but so are you. You will have your moments of doubt but it is a rewarding and much needed field to be a part of. You have it together girl. It's not easy giving school another shot but you got this. You have to trust yourself and what you know. Some advice for test taking is read the question, think of the answer before reading the multiple choice, and if that answer is there then that is the correct choice. Helps so much when you doubt yourself because of similar or multiple correct answers but needing to choose the best one and 1st choice of action. Supplemental material like the videos from the professor you watch help immensely especially if you understand her methods of explaining better.
Cota is such a cutie! Every nursing student absolutely have their doubt. Even Nurses have doubts girl! Do what you can. Don't stress too much about uploading. You know what is your priority. We are all rooting for you. Hope you have a happy and safe holiday!

Its okay Kayleigh, keep your head up, I know your one tough woman. You came a long way and will figure things out. The beginning is where you learn your mistakes. When I went to school to become a Medical Assistant, I made friends and we study together and made tricks and tips to remember the answers. I was so antisocial but it made me passed on all my exams.
Good luck and I know you got this. Its something you want and will achieve on it, I believe in you and know you will get better and do better. ❤️

At least in Canada... nursing exam questions aren't so much about what is right or wrong but more about what is the MOST right. Nursing exams are unbelievably frustrating. You can leave an exam thinking you completely bombed it and in actuality you've aced it 🤷‍♀️ Ear plugs were my best friend during exams and study groups/content discussion got me through nursing school.

Hey! I hope you don't take this the wrong way but I also think it is how you're studying. I don't waste time on making flash cards. I personally use quizlet (it helps sooo much, especially because there's different options on how you can study the flashcards on quizlet). Also, reading and taking notes on the textbook is a waste for me (I would just be reading to read, not to comprehend). If you're going to use the textbook focus on the "key points" at the end of the chapter. Then based on those points, you can go back to the text if you need more help. Personally, I go to UA-cam videos for help (Sarah Nurse RN and her website is great resource). If your school provides Powerpoints, use them especially if the instructors put info in the speaker notes section). Another great resource is Level Up RN flashcards; they are a game changer. You can use those if you want to utilize flashcards (I use those along with quizlet).

Might seem crazy, but I think it'd be fulfilling and crazy in a good way 😂😂❤️ Plus, after what I've been through and seen, then been bored with shit like Sabrina and Riverdale, I'm like ok. Hey, I wanted to share some advice. I finished my nursing school in may. Took my NCLEX in October and I didn’t pass. I had all the 145 questions possible. I had used Uworld to study. Then I found a UA-cam channel where an instructor called Mark Klimek does 12 lectures and I listened to it, wrote everything out, te listened to the lectures and I passed my second time with 77 questions. I highly recommend you listen to his lectures, specially the prioritization lecture. I feel like that one will help you so much
    Good luck
Like others have mentioned, the book is very time consuming, I would also recommend only going to the book for clarification on topics you don’t understand
The book is full of information you really don’t need to know
    Good luck
