    Local 721 here , I use a packout , keep my welding gear , Leathers harnesses , torch tools , cordless grinder, spuds and I roll on and off a jobsite no problem anything extra I expect the company to provide

      That’s really cool! Good for you being able to roll in and out of job sites no problem. I do carry a lot of extra tools due to some of the guys I work for have no welding tools whatsoever. Sometimes they only have an engine drive welder and that’s it. Other times I work for huge contractors that have almost everything I would need. Definitely a nice mix of work environments so I have to ask the contractors what they provide and then judge what all I would need to bring for that particular site. Thank you for commenting!!

    I’m a retired Union Boilermaker all I need when I get to a job site is a tape measure and a knife the contractor supplies everything else

      That’s cool some unions and companies do that! The union I was in, Ironworkers Local 433 Los Angeles, never did that nor did the contractors.

      @@WeldinCowboy I’ve only worked Union jobs and Ironworkers always had their own hand tools beater,spud wrenches,chipping hammer,rigging belt

      I guess some places work differently than what you and I would be used to. I always had to bring my own tools as well. Once in a while a contractor would supply things such as a beater and some stuff like that but I prefer my own. I can see how some would view it nice as having all the tools supplied by the contractor but I prefer using my own tools because I take care of them and I can rely on the tools I take care of. Take care of your tools and they will take care of you.

    That's how my bolts bags looked when they were still new ! Nice

      Been trying to keep the bolt bags in as good of a condition as possible from when I am welding to framing buildings. Some of the other guys really have torn up bags yet they still hold up well. Since I don’t do as much connecting, my bolt bags are more for carrying tools with me all day, they will for sure stay cleaner than an ironworker who solely connects beams all day. Definitely one of the best tool carrying belt/method I have used. It is also nice when I am connecting, I can take my tools out of my bolt bags and fill them up with bolts no problem without having extra gear or belts.

    Y’all don’t work out of a personal gang box ? So you carry you gear out every day ?

    • @WeldinCowboy
      @WeldinCowboy  Рік тому +1

      Thank you for commenting! Yes, sometimes there are personal gang boxes but even with those it is easy to get or use a master key. I’ve had tools taken from me by punks and a foreman so I don’t rely too heavily on the master key being only used for if someone forgets their key. For a gang box that everyone can use their own locks, there are so many tools that are on a job site that can easily take off a lock when I am not there. For me, it is more peace of mind in knowing I have my tools when I take them home with me. Yes carrying tools out every day can certainly be a hassle, but it is a personal preference I have.

      I’ve always worked out of my personal gang box , on long term jobs , I’ll take a bucket to small short jobs , I’ve worked iron for 20 plus years , all over the Midwest, now getting ready to head to New York , working out of IW local 60

      Just because my bucket is empty doesn’t mean I haven’t used it. I have not used the bucket near as much as the rest of my gear that’s for sure. It has a time and place for being used. As I said in the video, I am not the biggest fan of using the bucket with the canvas insert with the pouches. I prefer my rolling tool box or just carrying stuff on site with my bolt bags.

    Couldn’t imagine being a non-union ironworker working in the rain. Pass.

    • @WeldinCowboy
      @WeldinCowboy  Рік тому +3

      I worked in the rain when I was union. The main difference for me now that I work independent and non-union is that I make sure I am safe on a job site and I make better money. I worked in Local 433 Los Angeles and they did not make sure sites were safe so we had guys getting hurt and/or dying on sites fairly frequently. Also, in Local 433 my pay topped out around $45 an hour for being a Journeyman Welder. Some unions are better than others, mine was on the low quality end. If you have a good union, good for you!!

      @@WeldinCowboy yea there’s no such thing as a journeyman welder, that’s not a thing. You’d be a journeyman IW. You never made it past your first year. Journeyman welder, lol. Not a thing, lmfao. Lies.

      @@WeldinCowboy also the IW in LA are way over 50 an hour, nothing you say adds up. Your full of crap.

    • @WeldinCowboy
      @WeldinCowboy  Рік тому +1

      When I was in Local 433 years ago the Journeyman pay was about or slightly higher than $40 and hour. Journeymen Welders which are a real thing, make more because of certifications. If you would like to look it up for yourself, you can reference Local 433’s contract agreement. I have not looked up the pay in local 433 lately but I still would not work for the low pay of $50 an hour. At minimum when I was in, Journeymen Welders made at least $1 more an hour than regular Journeymen (Ironworkers) but welders are in short supply so contractors and companies would be bidding for Journeymen Welders and would give them more than the required pay so their projects could be completed as close to the projected finish date as possible.
