Because I stroke my beard, sometimes when I practice kendo I find myself doing the stroking movement over my head armour! The power of habit is very strong!
Thanks for the videos. I'm 37 and oddly enough have never grown out my facial hair ever. I'm about 2 months of full growth. I really appreciate all the toys and knowledge. Really really helps
OMG! I knew i had a problem!! I get so focused on 1 strand of hair sometimes and it drives me nuts... I catch might self zoning out and being stuck for 15-20 mins during my day. I really need to stop.. Thanks for this Bandholz
I heard that playing with my beard will make me go blind, it's pretty scary. I don't know if I can stop, my wife caught me in the bathroom and twice in the shower. Please help, I'm afraid I can't stop!
Touching my beard is definitely what I do the most! I didn't realize I was causing split ends... I had heard you saying that before, but I thought I heard wrong. About washing the beard, there have been studies that have proven that beards do have some type of bacteria. It doesn't make you sick, but it's dirty. Now, I am the type of guy who washes his beard on a daily basis. I do avoid applying shampoo on it every day (same with my hair, too.) When I do, I apply Head & Shoulders Hair Endurance. I will consider getting a beard wash. Lastly, how often do you recommend trimming? What I hate about it is that I love my beard at its thickest, and when I trim, I eliminate that.
That poop article was proven to not be a science based article and came down to people washing their hands. I recommend trimming over the course of a few days and only take a little bit off. To maintain length, do it once every 1.5 months and if you are growing long, only trim once every 4 to 6 months. I've done a couple of trimming videos.
I think the reduce stress advice was really helpful. I think we don't hear that advice enough as men. I am just recovering from shingles and boy could I learn about how to reduce my stress.
Awesome video Eric. I really like listening to all your words of wisdom about beards and pretty much life in general! keep up the amazing work and you have had a huge impact on the male grooming community!
Eric, first off I have to say you have an amazing beard. I have seen the way it has changed through watching most of these videos. I have learned a lot that hopefully will help my beard look better.
Ya, the act of sharing information also caused me to learn a lot along the way. I've done things differently over time and it's been fun to share what I've learned.
It IS chalenging! I stroke my beard a lot, but one thing I should stop right now is the picking at this specific point right at the corner of the mouth where mustache and beard join together... feels very good, but every now and then a hair falls or breaks when I get too intense with it (hate it when that happens).
+Vinicius Maciel Yeah, habits like that are tough to break, but just be diligent and try to avoid picking at that area. Your beard will thank you! -Zach
I use Jason Tea Tree Oil ( I add extra Tea Tree) Body Wash & Burt's Bee's Pomegranate Conditioner to clean and soften my beard. I then use your beard oil mixed with another I have. About 3 times a week. With almost daily beard oil treatment besides. So I think I am OK on having a safe cleaning regimen. I am working on better foods most of the time (mostly organic) & I juice 5 times a week. I am avoiding Soy Products. And the weight lifting & walking will begin after I loose another 15 pounds. AND I am only 4 1/2 months in on the beard. At a year I will have the beard trimmed for the first time. We'll see how evenly filled in it actually becomes.
I've been growing my beard out for almost 2 months now and my Go-T has been growing out since the beginning of August and so its fairly thick now and the rest of it is coming in. i have yet to wash it. i always run it under water but i never shampoo it
Nice Carolina Gamecocks hat! I'm trying persistently this year in growing my beard and I feel like I've learned a great amount of healthy advice from your channel. Definitely appreciate all the tips and videos. Cheers. And if you're from South Carolina we should have a beer one day.
+SouthCarolinaMike Ya man, I grew up in Greer and went to USC. It's been a really tough year made even worse with clemson. I'll be back in town for the holidays, but now spend most of my time in Austin.
+Beardbrand Thats crazy! I live in Myrtle Beach now but grew up near Florence. Huge Carolina fan btw. Nice video too. I didn't know washing it everyday will dry it out.
Great comments Greg , actually as soon as I clicked on this great video of yours. I was reaching up to stroke my beard' so I picked up my brush and give it a Comb . Beard on Eric
Great video! My girl friend has to pull my hand away from my beard because I'll pick at it. It's become a pretty bad habit actually. Great information though
I am losing 3 to 4 beards daily due to touching my beards. I have lost 7 beards today. My beard is so thin, losing it like this would leave me with nothing. From today I am making a commitment that I will not touch my beard again. ❤️Love❤️ you beard
I have a serious problem of pulling out beard hairs in the same spot and biting the hairs with my front teeth into as many small pieces as possible and I absolutely can’t stop.
I'm growing my goatee only since February and it was really itchy and uncomfortable in the beginning, to the point I was dying to just shave it off, but I persisted and is stopped feeling that way as it kept growing. I used to pick at it a lot back then, but now I barely touch it and when I do, I don't pick it but rather stroke it.
Any tips for brushing your teeth? It's probably not good for the beard if toothpaste drips on it. Or am i the only one who gets that? I do keep my mouth closed but some always manages to slip out...
I think what eric was trying to say is: reduce the time you touch your beard and do not torture it. fidgeting it is bad. I got my hands on a "Mudras Chain" and from then on i enjoy touching my beard much more than before, because most of the time I take out my stress on the mudras chain beads and not on my beard..
I’m growing out a beard for the first time and I exercise everyday with a few showers a day. Would you recommend to wash the beard everyday or break it up? Don’t want to dry it out. Thanks love the videos
Michael Quintas I've heard a lot of good things about goat's milk soap, but I've never ventured into using it personally so I can't say. What's your experience with it been like? - Marque
What about beard washing with neutral soap? I have a good experience with those in terms of clean beard (I do smoke). Also, living in Brazil with the weather and humidity, it helps with it. Than i use beard butter, and oils.
***** Whatever works best for you always takes precedence. The properties of some neutral soaps cause extensive drying, so thats definitely something to look out for, but I'm assuming your beard butter & oil regimen help counteract that. - Marque
At first i think the facial hair that had been growing to my face is disgusting .. Probably because i based it from the comments that i get from my environment but eversince i started to do a research on the web, it kinda gave me a spark, damn im really messing with what god given me a full beard. So now i try to grow one and i found it really difficult to look for beard oils and stuff. Can i use sunflower oil as an alternative?
What's up bro. What specific searches did u do with your research ? I'm about to stop cutting my hair and beard today yea I think it's all about being natural. A mans hair naturally grows in the places it does and I feel like we should let it be. Maybe that's where we will get a lot of our strength #beardband
I've been growing my beard out but haven't been taking care of it at all, barely washing it, never brushing it or doing anything with it, but now I want to start using a good beard wash, conditioner and balm. I'm finding it to be very hard to work with though. With with using the products on it the neck area does whatever it wants to do. How can I tell if I need to trim it back and let hit grow back in healthier?
I know I’m late to this video but I have a question to ask if you don’t mind Eric ? I have a bad habit of “rubbing” my palm across my face to feel the stubbles a lot usually as I’m trying grow a longer beard. I’ve noticed that sometimes as my beard grows out longer my soul patch seems to have less coverage with some beards I grow … it’s one of the main part of my beard that I constantly rub ( almost automatically) during the stubble phase. Other beards I’ve grown out before as I analyze them in pictures …the soul patch looks very evenly distributed and thicker. I know it’s kind of a silly question …but Is it possible that I had been rubbing the stubble too much in that spot during that stage of growth? Normally I rub that area with my fingers when I’m thinking or reading ! lol 🤔 New subscriber! 👍
Guilty, I sometimes find myself chewing my upper lip hair. It is a hard habit to break but I am trying. I comb my beard at least three or four times a day, too much???
I think i'm touching my beard too much aswell. The left side of my beard kinda looks thinner and i think it's mostly because im touching that side way more. Now i don't know if i should just keep it growing or trim it down a bit to look more even. And of course somehow try to touch it less.
beard on brother. I have a patchy beard, it could be due to stress I don't know. I wish I had a fuller beard I I feel less of a man :( a common theme I'm hearing a lot is meditation is good I wouldn't expect that from a beard expert but I guess I'll take it where I can get it. thanks for the vids :) have a Happy Thanksgiving
Just after the video started, I was playing with my single hairs, and I laughed hard, when you told it's the worst thing :D Yeah, I know, I experienced this when I noticed plucked my hair out...and I still do this. :S Some of my hairs plucked out so easly and without any pain, but with root of the hair. So yeah, it's very bad habit, I totally agree.
Andrzej Sitko LOL, we all do it man. I find myself doing it everyday. It's the worst when I'm at my computer working. When I'm out and about it's not as bad.
Great topic, plucking is really my bad habit. But I've seen you using a blow dryer in your daily routine videos. Doesn't this ruin the hair too? And after all this damage done, is there a way to "heal" the beard, or is trimming the only solution?
Andrew Snow A hair dryer won't damage your beard if you use it properly. It's when you use it for too long and too hot that you start to encounter issues. But the only way to fix split ends is by trimming them off.
Would the tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner that you can buy in salons be equally effective. Its all natural and no harmful additives. Also every morning when I comb my beard lots of hairs fall out but I'm very careful to not pull on the comb when it gets stuck. Any advice?
Jesse S Eric sells some great products so see if there is anything that you may like. For beard cleaning, use a good hand made soap. I use grandpa's pine tar soap and it works great. It doesn't strip away the natural oils. Also use a good beard oil or beard balm and apply to a damp beard after a shower. A great beard brush is the LUXOR PRO "WET" BRUSH FOR MEN. It is a very gentle brush and inexpensive. It's the best brush I have ever used and I have tried quite a few.Beard oil vs. beard balm. Oils work well but if you have any length to your beard, I prefer a beard balm. A balm usually has some bees wax and that helps to cling to the hairs better. Oils work great as well but doesn't seem to last as long as the balm does.
+Sam B Hey Sam! A stache like Eric's takes quite a bit of time - just let that baby grow and get yourself some mustache wax to keep it styled out of your way! -Zach
Eric im 15 and any tips on how to get thicker beard. One of your videos you made about patchy beard of a guy with a hair . Thats how mines look like but not patchy so please give me tips on how to make it h Thicker
After having a lengthy beard for more than two years I destroyed it by trimming only. I cut it down to about Eric's length and I regret it. I have had my beard now 3 years and would never think of getting rid of it, but the short beard look is not really me.
+The Puppeteer 777 Have you tried gently combing while your beard is still wet after a shower? Personally, I'll towel dry my beard and while it's still damp I'll comb out any knots, then when it dries I'll use a bristle brush to get the rest of the knots out and brush it into place. Here's a video that might help too: ua-cam.com/video/LHwHib3VzGA/v-deo.html Beard on! -Zach
thank you for replying, i do comb but sometimes i get little knots on single hairs. i also want to know what are your thoughts on braiding beards does it damage it alot or is it safe to do so
Hey Eric! Do you know of any good barbers from your old days in sc, in Columbia preferably. I still have a while before I hit the yeard mark. But, I want to get a good idea of someone. I still may do it myself.
hey beardbrand. i have a bad habit of pulling my beard hairs out and its definitely short in the middle and longs on the sides. it looks disgusting. im trying my best to stop. i notice a litte bit lighter color beard strands coming from the middle of my beard (where i used to pluck alot) some of them are almost white. im only 20 and have black hair. do you think plucking beard hairs can possibly make them turn white at such a young age. please reply I'm desperate to stop this bad habit. Thank you!
I've had light brown, or even red hairs in my beard from back when I was 18 or something.. I'm 26 now, have had more and more gray/silver hairs now too, but never plucked at my beard, I guess it just happens haha. Just embrace it haha
Jorge Rivera Well, I'm a bit biased, but Beardbrand wash + softener is really an awesome product for beards. www.beardbrand.com/collections/grooming-kits/products/silver-beard-wash-softener
Okay, I have a question about the shampoo and conditioner for the beard. I typically use AXE thickening shampoo or an axe shampoo/conditioner. Would these qualify as abrasive to a beard? Also, I recently purchased and began using beard conditioning oil. Should conditioning oil replace using conditioner in the shower?
you should use a natural shampoo like pine tar or Dr broners (sp?), most commercial shampoos strip far too many of the natural oils that protect your beard.
Eddie Howell Baby shampoo is milder than traditional shampoos, and not as damaging. It's okay as an occasional substitute when you're between bottles of Beard Wash. - Marque
One quick question, I try not to stroke My beard too much. I hardly do... But I've noticed from time to time some beard hairs are laying on my bed or just random places where I'm at. I use no shampoo on my beard since chemicals aren't no good... But I do use a paste made of oils and vitamins (made for the scalp) and I still see that? Is it normal ?
Ohhh Makes sense!! Thanks man! Really appreciate the videos/time/and everything you do! I recently sub'd because your channel and you are very helpful. I honestly was a little scared hehe but i understand now.
I have a thick corse beard and i cant use a comb unless I'm fresh out the shower im forced to use a pick for my beard I'm I destroying my bears if i don't pick it out it just turn into a dread lock beard lol
Should I keep on growing out my beard I don't have all of the hair right under my chin but I can fill them coming in should I grow it out for a mouth and see what happens
+Luis Camarillo Yeah, I hear ya. Have you tried the old rubber band trick? Put a rubber band around your wrist, and every time you reach to pick at your beard, snap the rubber band to give yourself a sting. After a while you'll give yourself a bit of a Pavlovian response, and when you reach to touch your beard you'll remember the rubber band and stop yourself. Give that a try! -Zach
I do. I keep a comb handy as combing is better than plucking. Also it's really about keeping those idol hands occupied stress balls can help. I focus on removing rogue hairs so it's not too bad for me when it comes to patches.
I have a question for you sir i found your video because i have that picking problem i was concerned id leave a patch so about a month ago i trimmed all to a #7 nd sure enough big noticeable patch :/ im very nervous and regretful . Anyway my question is will the hair from that patch grow back? Its been about a month and it's looking a tad bit better but im not sure if its just the other hairs growing longer and being able to sorta brush over thee patch
Hey beardbrand, i am 16 and started growing hairs on my neck and on the side of my chin and they are notisable, when do you think i can start to grow it all? Btw nice video
zion. It's hard to say, exactly. 16's really early for a lot of guys to get a full beard so you're definitely going to have to give it some time and patience. It'll get there. - Marque
Man I got a hot alum chip up in my beard and i Just watched the hairs hit the floor! I know no one can tell but I'm still thoroughly butthurt over it 😕
Was totally touching by beard when he said "Don't touch your beard"
Jon Bauman me too
yeah me too...
same here...
guilty, why else have it?
What confuses me, is some people say to massage your face/beard to promote blood circulation, but Eric says NOT to touch it?! WTF
I LOVE how much you promote knowledge and use of NATURAL products!!!

I CANT STOP!!!!! I twist and pull my mustache hairs and I'm afraid it's destroying this wonderful symbol of masculine power I've acquired.

I think this beard length looks the best on you out of all of your videos!! Keep rocking it man!!
Eric seems like a great friend. Just bought my first batch of Beardbrand products, can't wait for them to come in!
I think the reduce stress advice was really helpful.
I think we don't hear that advice enough as men.

I'm on my 8th month and I'm telling you all it makes you feel like a Viking. And thank God my wife loves it. :) BTW love your stuff. cheers
+Hightower69 That's what's up, thank you sir and beard on!
-Zach
Yeah, that picking is the worst - I strangely got rid of that by remembering to stroke, not pick (keep the palm open and use a really light touch)

I was picking my hair under my lip during a seminar and I really lost a lot of them... I hope they can regrow normally....
And ? Are they grew back
@@turkicaz5505 you asked 5 years later... I think they grew back

I've been growing my beard out for almost 2 months now and my Go-T has been growing out since the beginning of August and so its fairly thick now and the rest of it is coming in. i have yet to wash it. i always run it under water but i never shampoo it
I just fidget with my crank.
🤨
Will the hairless area due to pulling grow back?
Anything on weird or painful beard hairs I end up plucking them and have bald patches =\ or split ends are a pain
Greg just put out a video on how to pluck those annoying hairs: ua-cam.com/video/N7l0bDxgnXQ/v-deo.html
very helpful tips thanks. I got here after I saw you guys on Mike Falzone's video about tips for beards.

Playing with facial hair is such a crazy strong habit, the minute I grew any hair on my chin I picked up the habit of messing with it casually
Famn near every guy I've ever known worh facial hair plays with it in some way lol.
I do all of those things from time to time

How often you would you consider combing excessive?
I’m growing out a beard for the first time and I exercise everyday with a few showers a day. Would you recommend to wash the beard everyday or break it up? Don’t want to dry it out. Thanks love the videos
Best advice I have ever taken has simply been let it grow and leave it alone.
What about using hair dye in your beard?
How about goat's milk soap to wash beard in shower followed by beard oil post shower?
Michael Quintas Goats milk soap does a great job on the beard. I have used it before. And using oil after a shower is always a good thing to do.

beard on brother.
+Bjorn Zubrycki Thanks for the note, Bjorn, and Happy Thanksgiving from all of us here at Beardbrand!

Stress ball! that's right!
I didn't think of that!
I'm here tearing my beard apart all day long 😢😅
Would the tea tree oil shampoo and conditioner that you can buy in salons be equally effective.
How do you all get such a nice stache? Does it take long to grow one like that? Greetings from Belgium!
+Sam B Hey Sam! A stache like Eric's takes quite a bit of time - just let that baby grow and get yourself some mustache wax to keep it styled out of your way!

Eric im 15 and any tips on how to get thicker beard. One of your videos you made about patchy beard of a guy with a hair . Thats how mines look like but not patchy so please give me tips on how to make it h
Thicker
Check out this video I did: ua-cam.com/video/HsiZnZ4pYz0/v-deo.html
Thanks for the tips. You seem like a chill dude. I would totally hang out with you haha.
I m Indian and I asking how to the beard best color and how to Color step by step
I keep touching my facial hair and I need learn how to stop touching my facial hair.
After having a lengthy beard for more than two years I destroyed it by trimming only. I cut it down to about Eric's length and I regret it. I have had my beard now 3 years and would never think of getting rid of it, but the short beard look is not really me.
I have this same issue , I end up leaving a bald patch and end then end up shaving it off
Bearbrand what do you do about knots on hairs, sometimes feel that my hairs has knots in them.
+The Puppeteer 777 Have you tried gently combing while your beard is still wet after a shower? Personally, I'll towel dry my beard and while it's still damp I'll comb out any knots, then when it dries I'll use a bristle brush to get the rest of the knots out and brush it into place. Here's a video that might help too: ua-cam.com/video/LHwHib3VzGA/v-deo.html Beard on!

thank you for replying, i do comb but sometimes i get little knots on single hairs. i also want to know what are your thoughts on braiding beards does it damage it alot or is it safe to do so
mind blowing video, Man!!!!!!!
so is suave men shampoo etc ok for my newly growing beard?
+Brotasium Gaming personally I wouldn't put that stuff anywhere near my head or beard. If you have success with it, then go with it.
Hey Eric! Do you know of any good barbers from your old days in sc, in Columbia preferably. I still have a while before I hit the yeard mark. But, I want to get a good idea of someone. I still may do it myself.
Andy Overcash It's been about 12 years since I've lived there, so I don't have any recommendations. Sorry man.
hey beardbrand. i have a bad habit of pulling my beard hairs out and its definitely short in the middle and longs on the sides. it looks disgusting. im trying my best to stop. i notice a litte bit lighter color beard strands coming from the middle of my beard (where i used to pluck alot) some of them are almost white. im only 20 and have black hair. do you think plucking beard hairs can possibly make them turn white at such a young age. please reply I'm desperate to stop this bad habit. Thank you!
I've had light brown, or even red hairs in my beard from back when I was 18 or something.. I'm 26 now, have had more and more gray/silver hairs now too, but never plucked at my beard, I guess it just happens haha. Just embrace it haha
+Deejay JeanP thanks bro makes me feel a little better
+andrew smith Haha you're welcome bro :)
Great vid as always! Thumbs up!
Martin Qwinten Thank you Martin! Got nothing your your videos.
I hit the GYM 5 times a week man, what do you recommend for my beard
Jorge Rivera Well, I'm a bit biased, but Beardbrand wash + softener is really an awesome product for beards. www.beardbrand.com/collections/grooming-kits/products/silver-beard-wash-softener
Is losing hairs when brushing, combing, washing the beard normal?
+Henrik Bæckström yup it's called shedding and you probably lose about 30 hairs per day.
Would baby shampoo be good for your beard if you have no beard wash?
Eddie Howell Baby shampoo is milder than traditional shampoos, and not as damaging. It's okay as an occasional substitute when you're between bottles of Beard Wash.

Your beard looks awesome !!!!!
One quick question, I try not to stroke
My beard too much. I hardly do... But I've noticed from time to time some beard hairs are laying on my bed or just random places where I'm at. I use no shampoo on my beard since chemicals aren't no good... But I do use a paste made of oils and vitamins (made for the scalp) and I still see that? Is it normal ?
+Roberto Licardie That's normal. I covered it here: ua-cam.com/video/9DeBA-jlJIY/v-deo.html
Connor Mumford Definitely. When in doubt, grow it out.

Thx Dawg, Beard On Brother!!!!!!!!
Picking at my beard is the best in the world but the worst habit there is. It's really hard for me to stop playing with my beard.
-Zach
Anyone deal with trichotillomania? Any advice will help (besides "don't do it")?
It should grow back. Give it time and of course try not to pick it any more.
you're a gamecock fan!? are you from SC?
+Colin Morrell class of 2003. Forever to thee.
hell yeah dude! class of 2015. keep up the good work brother
- Marque
Thanks! I have seen my dad and granfather and i think i have the gens but as you said i gotta give it time
Man I got a hot alum chip up in my beard and i Just watched the hairs hit the floor! I know no one can tell but I'm still thoroughly butthurt over it 😕
MadMetalManiac74 Man that's tragic! Glad the rest of the beard's still in tact.
- Marque
Beardbrand luckily it's probably less significant than what it appears to me. We are our own worst critics.
I need you to have my children so they can grow gorgeous beards like you❤
