Malcolm Young was a marvelous rhythm player. His timing was exquisite. Guitar players can learn a lot from him. Angus is no slouch, either. What a fine lesson, JustinGuitar.
High Voltage, Let There Be Rock, Powerage, Highway to Hell, and Back in Black were my Rock Guitar 101 class when I was first learning guitar as a teen. I owe a debt I can never repay to Malcolm Young.
I played a lot when I was a kid, but for some reason stopped playing. I just recently started playing again and I have to say, I wish we had UA-cam and guys like you teaching when I was a kid. You're a great teacher and you're so passionate about what you do. Thank you.
Same here. Grew up in the 80’s. Pick up the record needle put it back a couple groves and play it again. I did discover you could take a cassette, chew up some paper and stuff it in the 2 holes and make it recordable... had a cassette full of snips of songs that was SOOOO convenient to practice with. Then I found out they actually sold BLANK cassettes 🤔
Agree, back in the 70's, if you wanted to learn a song you went to a music store and bought the book. Often the chords were very basic and not the same ones the artist played. Sometimes they weren't even the correct chords.
Yes before youtube, you would have to go to a music shop and buy a book songs where the chords were just generic and were not the ones that the band played.
Wow... You're the first person I've ever seen play this riff right. Nobody ever plays the up stroke and It's the secret to the riff. I saw Malcolm do it in the video and it makes all the difference. Another reason why Justin is one of the best teachers on UA-cam.
A Person Malcom wrote and built almost all of the song. So yes, angus was/is an extremely small portion of the band, but a powerhouse on the leads. His contribution to this song in particular is minuscule
Excellent ! I'm 30 years playing the guitar on and off, my job always stopped me putting in the time I needed to be a good player! I seem to reteach myself every few years with a UA-cam top up lesson lol. For such an easy song to play, I could never master the picking style. An hours practice after watching your video Justin ,I had it off to the T.. You break it down perfect, thanks so much, your lesson has inspired me to find more time to advance more, keep up the great work.. Rock on dude
Thanks very much for what you do. You cover all material. Whenever i pick up my guitar to learn a song I always look for your videos. I always love the intros when you play the full song. So refreshing to see someone who really appreciates this amazing music
I love songs with two guitars talking to each other, but of course, the parts by themselves don't sound like the song to listeners. Appreciate very much your suggestions on how to combine the parts and even add "bagpipe" to produce the familiar sound with one guitar. Very helpful video. Thanks for posting.
Love the way that guitar doesn't have any knobs in the way of the picking/strumming hand. Great lesson. Not as hard to get a good sound as I thought it would be.
Guitar TONE! Something that seem's to be forgotten these days. The Young brothers may only use 4-5 chord song approaches, but they do it really (WELL). Angus always deliver's a great "SOLO". Their so called simple rhythm section leaves so much space for the huge guitar sound they bring. I appreciate the detail you put into these lesson's . Most pub bands butcher ac/dc licks.. Not so easy REPLICATED. I'm in love with that Malcolm Young replica guitar you got there sounds (SWEET).
its a long way to the top if ya wanna rock and roll and so new; you don't even know, what you don't even know ( BUT ) I'm lovein" it. This is my on-line instructor...
I don't know if you have too much fuzz....or you use a pinky and Angus wouldn't or if your guitar's the wrong color etc etc All I know is it has the same feel as the song I love. I think I have been playing it wrong for a very long time....great song to run through my new "looper".... record the rhythm (Malcolm is a god) and then play the Angus parts over it. I couldn't be happier Thanks Justin
Nice Malcolm guitar! You got me on the right track with the bagpipes line. I moved it up an octave and dropped the rhythm guitar part and it sounds dead on. Thanks!
***** The orignal recording was in Bb, though it's a little 'sharper' than that, on some of the early albums it sounds like they're tuned down a 1/4 step maybe?. And the key choice was because that was the key of the bagpipe drones.
Great job with this one! I love the days of AC/DC with Bon Scott most. Rockin' Blues! Anyone starting guitar should look back to this stuff. Simple (up to a point) but great jamming stuff! Thanks for this one!
Great lesson Justin. I'm a guitarist in a 3-piece band and I let the bassist cover the F# in the bass of the D chord otherwise it sounds a bit mushy. But thanks for the advice ref being in a band in your lessons. It really helps!
i learned a lot from your tutorial, kindly teach more AC/DC if possible all AC/DC thank you so much, by the way i'm a late bloomer i easily learn from you.
I never seen anyone besides Angus young do this song justice until now. Well played Спасибо, Джастин, прекрасный урок. Thank's Justin, it's a great lesson! Thanks! love the sound of that guitar
I've checked out dozens before this they all leave out something very well explained and very well detailed you're awesome I'm going to subscribe thank you!!!
Thanks Justin. You're the best! Crazy me, I used software to slow the video down of the live performance on the bed of the truck just to see if I could figure out how Malcolm was strumming the beginning of the song. I should have just waited for your lesson!
Justin, after only 2 weeks you are already channeling Angus with your mannerisms during the demo! Can't wait to see the rest of the series, by the end I expect you to have dug out the old school uniform..
One of the juiciest riffs ever ,well played and thanks for the lesson...I'm a little behind the times, just heard about Malcolm today.Hoping things get better for him
Hey Justin, thanks for the videos. I don't have much time to play the guitar and your lessons enable me to have fun with it without having to put in too much hours. One of my goals for this year is to learn how to play this song, but there's something I don't understand. At 2:40 you mute the strings using fingers 2, 3 and 4 to get the muted hits, but then at 11:58 you're muting the strings by not pressing down the chord I think, but I can't figure out how you're muting the A string. It keeps ringing out when I play.
Another great lesson. I have to ask, would there be any chance of including the solo's in the AC/DC Friday lessons? Like the 'Shook me all night long' lesson? Thanks.
Hey Justin thank you very much for this great lesson! I would appreciate it if you can do a lesson for "Stiff upper lip" at some day, that would be great since I did not find a good one so far.
Great lesson Justin. I've been watching your videos for a few years now and enjoy them immensely. I've found that your teaching method is easier than most to follow, and I've learned quite a few songs due to these wonderful lessons. Now to my question... I was wondering if you could possibly do a lesson by Welsh band "Budgie". The song I'd like to learn is "Anne Neggen" from their "If I Were Brittania I'd Waive The Rules" album. Their guitarist on this particular LP is a guy by the name of Tony Bourge who is a very underrated guitarist in my humble opinion. I haven't been able to find anyone who has taken a look at doing this excellent tune for a lesson, and thought if anyone could get a handle on it, it would be yourself. Anyhow, I hope you can learn this for yourself and teach us mere mortals how to play this cool song.
Love all your videos... just wish you would show what pedals you are using if any, what are the settings on your amp etccc just so we could get a similar sound.
Adding the bagpipe bit on the guitar is an amazing addition… love it
Malcolm Young was a marvelous rhythm player.
I owe a debt I can never repay to Malcolm Young.
love the sound of that guitar
that's essentially the same guitar that Malcolm Young uses...
I played a lot when I was a kid, but for some reason stopped playing. I just recently started playing again and I have to say, I wish we had UA-cam and guys like you teaching when I was a kid. You're a great teacher and you're so passionate about what you do. Thank you.
Iron Alchemy did ya get back into it
Same here. Grew up in the 80’s. Pick up the record needle put it back a couple groves and play it again. @stephencurry2157 Yes, I'm playing more than ever. 4-5 hours a day.
Wow... You're the first person I've ever seen play this riff right. Nobody ever plays the up stroke and It's the secret to the riff. I saw Malcolm do it in the video and it makes all the difference. Another reason why Justin is one of the best teachers on UA-cam.
I never seen anyone besides Angus young do this song justice until now. Well played
PS amazing timing , I couldn't play it that slowly and count the beats , that's impressive , more so than playing this song hah!
Angus only had a small part, Malcolm was the rhythm backbone through this whole song. Amazing what he could do with basically 1 chord.
C Show it's the Aussie blood.
Excuse you?? What about School of Rock?
A Person Malcom wrote and built almost all of the song. So yes, angus was/is an extremely small portion of the band, but a powerhouse on the leads. His contribution to this song in particular is minuscule
never seen any guitar teacher who was enjoying themselves to a riff so much !!!!!!!!!!!
Who would have thought an A, G, and D would take them to the top? Well done mate. RIP Malcolm. Lots of good times listening to this tune.
Excellent ! I'm 30 years playing the guitar on and off, my job always stopped me putting in the time I needed to be a good player! You even play the guitar malcolm always used! This Gretsch Jet Firebird looks exactly like the signature model which just came out!
This guy's the best! I just love his easy teaching style and ligth, fun personality.

AHHHHHH YEAAAAAA !!!!
Gettin' had

It's harder than it looks
Just over two years has passed, every time this video is on my suggested list I watch it and every time I fall in love with that guitar again.
Wow amzing class and one of my all time favorite song from AC/DC ... my best band always I have heard them for more of 40 years
Justin......... You're the Man
It's a long way to the shop if you want a sausage roll
then how was it around back in the 70's mate?
+Mark McCallum lol you are trolling right mate? We used to sing it at primary school...in the 70s. lolol
Didn't realise I had so many comments and likes haha
Dont worry ***** as long as you're still a legend in your own mind everything's ok
How to Spot a Strayan 101 ;)

Thank you for posting this
How the hell did I miss this.....dirty straight forward rock n roll...thanks Justin
How could anyone give this a thumbs down? Sweet song, great presentation.
I believe the correct order is "Malcolm, Angus"! Nice work on getting that riff spot on.
As always, awesome job. Strange how three simple chords can result in in such a unique song. You nailed it.
love you Justin - been watchin you for years - you are a great player and teacher, thank you
ouuu .. good old times! love it!
But i was hoping that you're goin to take out a hidden bagpipe! :D
I would have if I had some!!

Brilliant lesson from an enthusiastic tutor who knows his stuff.
Loving the Friday ACDC lessons ... A LOT!

Great job and awesome song to learn timing :-)
Just got a new pedal that should work well with this song. Nice timing Justin!
Great lesson Justin. Thanks!
Nice sound very authentic, you need a grey school cap to really pull it off though.
Hey Justin thank you very much for this great lesson!
I would appreciate it if you can do a lesson for "Stiff upper lip" at some day, that would be great since I did not find a good one so far.
Great lesson Justin. thank you

great acdc tone there, what pedal are you using? Ive been trying for years to nail that tone at sensible home volumes.
Love all your videos... just wish you would show what pedals you are using if any, what are the settings on your amp etccc just so we could get a similar sound.
It's a long way to the top" they had to tune up for a half step to A# because of the pipes. Correct me if i'm wrong !
+niokkota you are correct! I slapped a capo on the first for convenience.
+Stephen Adams Thanks for the understanding..
Ty bro. Great job.Very Complete.Cheers 🍻
Glad it helped Cheers 😊
