  • A sump pump has the difficult task of pumping water through a discharge pipe to the outside of your house. Peter O'Shea will show you the method we use to install a discharge pipe. Our installation does not have the pipe hanging overhead from the ceiling. The discharge pipe runs alongside our drainage beneath the floor. We are able to run the pipe up any wall and out to the side of the house, you prefer. Discreet and customized for your convenience.
    Not only is the pipe more concealed it is also easier to finish your basement with studs and walls without having to relocate the discharge pipe.

      What is your opinion on using geotextile fabric with the trench? I've seen companies use it and I've seen others not used it. Some will even use a sock.

    Great explanation.

    Are you a fan of two pumps in the one large sump bucket set at two slightly different levels, as a way of providing a backup in case of pump failure. Both pumps would be Tee'd into the same single discharge line. Love the videos:)

      We do install two pump in one large basket many times. The second pump is usually a battery backup pump and we sometimes install a Y connector to one discharge line rather than two lines.

    That is awesome! I’m just concerned about the couplings of the discharge pipe that will be poured over. Do you protect them with anything ? Also what about clean out? I know it’s not sewage but still???? What do you think? Finally does the vertical rise need to be protected as it comes out of the finished floor?

      The discharge pipe is packed in stone, covered with drainboard, vapor barrier and finally supercrete. It is 100% protected. No need for a cleanout like the ones used in more fallible systems that clog easily. Our drainage pipes are special ADS pipe that is self-cleaning when installed with a pitch. They never clog. Our system allows finishing in wood, tile, laminates... anything you desire. Just make sure your sump pump is working.

    Great video.....perhaps a silly question.........how far away from the house do you run the pvc pipe? Any issue in winter with water freezing in the outside pipe and backing back up inside?

      In most cases, 15 feet away from the house. There is no issue with freezing as long as you have a freeze-free attachment on the discharge pipe exiting the wall of the house.

    How long and how many guys does it take to do a typical 100 foot full perimeter? And do you guys also do any battery backups?

    This is going to seem kind of silly but why do you use a permanent attachment to the pump and not a hose? What happens when the pump dies (I'm on number 5 in 35 years)?

      Our pumps have a rubber attachment between the check valve and discharge pipe in the sump basket. Replacements are as easy as 1-2-3.

    How long can that discharge line be? How do elbows affect the distance allowed?

    • @AmericanDryBasementSystems
      @AmericanDryBasementSystems  4 роки тому

      Horizontal discharge lines can run long distances with many elbows without putting a strain on the pump. But, vertical discharge lines should really have only two elbows; one 90 degrees out the wall to the house exterior and another down into the outside drainage pipe. The longer the vertical ascent the harder the pump will have to work.
