In this advanced Garageband 10 video I teach you very specific settings for getting GREAT bass tones for rock, blues, country etc...
Easy step by step lesson!
Dude your videos are amazing. As someone who's been getting into home recording in the last year, they've been instrumental to not only learning GB but understanding recording, mixing, and mastering concepts. Thanks so much!
Thanks Lewin been struggling with this recording wise for a bit. Appreciate the tip and taking the time to share settings!!
Thank you so much for this. You don't know how hard I have been trying to perfect the bass mix.
This was so helpful, my bass sounded like crap before, thanks!
Thanks Lewin. I recorded my scratch track, got my drums down and then the bass. Damned if I could get a decent sound. But now it sounds great. Thank you.
Nice bass settings. Thanks a lot for your videos.
I copied your settings and it really made a difference. Before you could barely pick up the bass, it was too mushy. Now it's present but still sits back in the mix like it should. Thanks!
Thank you so much Lewin you helped me find the right sound for my bass.
Thank you so much for this! Never been so excited slappin the bass after this :)
This was so helpful!!! Thank you 🙌
Very cool. Thank you, Lu!
Extremely helpful easy to follow instructions...thanks
Oh my God, thank you. I was struggling!!! My new P Bass finally has that P Bass growl and punch and isn't a mushy mess that gets lost in the mix. My bass was sounding so good through my amp and I was eager to track it into my mixes with nothing but sever letdown.
Really, really useful video, thank you for sharing
Thank you so much. This is such a helpful Video! Thanks again! :)
Thanks that was so helpful, like others my bass was sounding mushy, now it sounds great.
It helped me a lot man. Great video.
Excellent, thanks for sharing!
Great advice! Keep it up!
This is very helpful-thanks!
So helpful thank you so much lew
Nice 👍 while explaining, bass sounded bright to my ears but when he played the entire track- I’m surprised how such brightness disappeared and it sounded really good!
THIS IS AMZING, thanks man
It's always a safe bet for any EQ to have a little dip in the EQ around 200Hz. It helps remove mushiness
Yay! Bass video!
Followed this tutorial to the letter a few days ago and have it saved for every future bass mix I need to work on in future. Thanks for the brilliant content! Have you done a video on EQing acoustic guitar? I know it's kind of subjective but if you've done a video similar to the above where you go through typical errors and how to remedy that would be awesome. Having some problems with muddy frequencies (have re-recorded so mic isn't too close to sound hole) but still seem to hear a kind of humming. Have gone through many of your videos but because they can be quite long (in no way a criticism) and my time can be short I may have missed it. Have found myself looking on other channels but frankly I'd prefer to stay on this one. Any links would be appreciated!
Amazing. Thanks!!!
Really appreciate your videos and your expertise! I am able to get great tone with my bass, but my struggle is how to record it and mix it so that it comes out nice and strong in the final mix. I record mostly rock and pop, and I want to really feel the bass when I listen back over my stereo, or in the car. Haven't been able to replicate the thundering bass I hear in pro recordings. Can you make a video about that? Thanks for sharing your wisdom!
wow great - thanks
The direct box looks like the Avalon U5. It sounds great so maybe they actually did a real hardware emulation. Very nice.
I'm really new into this and you said you don't use any amp sound but you have an amp chosen and the knobs on? From the amp sounds, which one do you think it's the best?
I'm connected through a Yamaha THRII, does it have any influence in the sound? I've always heard the bigger the amp the better specially for bass, but in this situation where the sound is not coming from the amp itself I wonder what it's taken into account. The eq or electronics of the amp???
Thank you for the video it was really informative and well explained.
Any advice for getting rid of buzz or hum on DI instruments (both bass and guitar)?
Super valuable advice!! Have you done one for guitar? I realize that is a completely different beast, but something like this for a clean and maybe AC/DC style gain channel would be amazing. Thanks for all that you are doing. More power to you. -Jonathan
Angus used a Marshall JTM amp, not sure what mics where used. You could try a Google search for what studio they recorded at.
i really need your help. Whenever recording a midi keyboard with other instrument tracks, I am getting a cracking and popping sound with poor midi synchronization. How can I get rid of this popping sound? I have a Mac Book Pro and a Scarlet 18i8 interface, a Focusrite product. Thank you!
Thanks for the tips buddy ! I was wondering what kind of levels you go for when recording a track ? And how you monitor peak levels in GarageBand . I have been having trouble in this area and think it may be what has been wrong with my previous recordings . Thanks in advance :)
+Jaybones74 Hey man, you should check out this video ua-cam.com/video/OfCN7t03ZD0/v-deo.html
nice video
hi gb&b i have a ? u said in a vid before if u find garageband limiting it might be time to move on i really like garageband but can u make a song that has two or more different time signatures because if not thats pretty limiting please help
Nice tracks……guitars cut through nicely…..deep bass sounds……thanks
Hi, I connect my bass to an iRIG 2 that then connects to garage band on MAC. Two questions: 1) On garageband certain notes that need to be sustained for additional beats get cut off during recording. How can I avoid this? 2) I have a Laney RB2 amplifier that has a DI output as well as headphone output. Is there any way to get the output of the amplifier - either from DI out or headphone out (I have a DI to USB cable) connected to garage band/MAC and record my bass?
is it possible to save this as a preset on GB?
Very nice and helpful information here! Do you still like the Hammond M3? I'm looking at buying one in my area.
+Robert Ledet I LOVE MY M3!!!! You will love yours too!!!
You were totally right, it's an incredible instrument. It's just inspiring to play on. thanks for the videos.
Hero.
Great video!
What would you recommend if I’m using flatwound strings? I tried exactly what you do here except I put the tone up just a little. It sounds awesome on my computer speakers and headphones, but when I listen to tracks in my car it sounds way too bassy/woofy. I tried bringing down the low end and track volume but it doesn’t help. Thanks!
Roderick Ross Try using a high pass filter and bring it up to 50 Hz. That should get rid of a lot of the excess low-end. Also taking out some 200 can help a lot.
i was looking for Sub Bass, but this is useful to know.
Glad I could help! Please check out the my channel page if you have some time to kill! I have a ton of videos. You never know what else you might find on here that works for you!
thanks.
anyone has volume issues, after setting GB like Lewin told to do? im using irighd2 + earphones + active bass and i think the bass should sound more louder than it actually sounds. any help would be great...
How to get your plug in directbox?
Can you just manually enter the eq values
it works with irig hd2?
What kind of bass do u have
where was your tone knob at on your bass... you said your volume was all the way up... but not sure you mentioned your tone knob?
I tried recording bass into one of those xlr to 1/8 inch adapter, with my bass and mic'ed. I went in the headphone Jack in my MacBook. The track sound awful. Is that because if my terrible set up or did I miss something else?
Yeah.... it's your setup. You should just get a cheap used interface like the Focusrite 2i2 or something similar.
GaragebandandBeyond awesome thanks.
+garagebandandbeyond did you use the irig hd2 to run in your bass or was this a seperate mic?
+Juan Mejia I was going in direct, probably through my joemeek preamp into my focusrite Safire pro40.
in the beginning of the video you explained that there is no buzzing when you play because you have the noise gate on. how do you turn on the noise gate because I hear buzzing when i plug in my guitar or mic?
It's usually on automatically and you just have to adjust it, but if you don't see it, just open it like a normal plugin.
Do you recommend these settings for Slap as well?
No not really, this is more for a fingered P bass tone.
When you say you are going direct does this mean this is an audio track or a software instrument track?
+trawkberlin that means I am plugging my Bass directly into my interface. So this would be considered an audio track.
Thank man
I really need a guitar bass
dumb question but...can you do these steps after the bass has been recorded? For example, I recorded my bass line a while ago before seeing how you EQ bass. Can I apply these settings to this previously recorded bassline? Or will I have to set these parameters and rerecord my bass line?
Yes you can do all of this after the fact of recording. You can change it all!
@@GaragebandandBeyond How can I get you a song to listen to? I need help mixing it! Driving me nuts. Do you charge?
How about you tell us how how you got the direct box up for start. You just pushed knows what.
Click on the bass amp icon. At the bottom of the bass amp window is a button called "direct amp". I had the same question
2:43
would an Irig HD work with a macbook pro
how to connect the bass with an IPAD ?
Sayak Banerjee try an irig or irig 2
These settings mean nothing unless I am playing your bass with your fingers. :). People should trust your ears, and not worry about specific numbers or plugins.
lol
