Yes! Yes! Yes ! Philly We stand on the some of the most powerful soil on the planet. Lenape soil And even though our brothers and sisters would say they don’t own it . This is just a vibrational piece that has grown out of it.Thank you Heath Brothers.
For some nebulous reason this piece by the Brothers Heath is hard to find!! A masterpiece!!! I remember in the winter of "78 my brother was going to Morgan State and came home one night with this joint (I was 23 then) and fell in love with the whole album. Thanks 4 the post. Peace
I have searched for this song for years and could not find it anywhere including here on youtube. finally it has arrived i remember listening to this way back in the late 70's and fell totally in love being the affecionado as i am. I wont lose it now, this is great music and should be in every jazz masters library....
Saw the brothers & friends at Jackson Municipal Auditorium not too long after this album came out. The whole thing was a dream, but when they played "Mellowdrama" I think I floated away. It's 40 years later and I'm still in the "flow" of this sound.
Hello In Joy. Was this the Dexter Gordon concert in Jackson? I was there too if we’re talking about the same one - we’d almost have to be. I enjoyed it immensely. I went specifically to see The Heath Brothers and they did not disappoint. It’s good to know there is a jazz lover so close to me.
@@hildat8 Sorry for the delay in responding, Hilda. It was indeed the Dexter Gordon concert in Jackson. When they started playing this song, I almost floated out of me seat. If you're in Jackson now (with the water crisis) I hope you're well.
@@GS-gq5is Glad to hear from you. It’s difficult to find people who appreciate jazz around Jackson. I currently live in Ridgeland where I’ve been for the last 30 years or so, but I was born and raised in Jackson. It breaks my heart that we can’t seem run this city so that it benefits the people who live and work there. Too bad there is no place to play. But I really enjoyed that concert. The city auditorium was a good place to have it. The ambiance was good for a jazz session-not too big, like the coliseum would have been. I have a lot of the Heath Brothers music on vinyl. They are a favorite trail blazer group of mine. I am also a great Crusader fan. Joe Sample is my idol. I hope that things are well with you - are you still in the Jackson area? Where ever you are take care and be well.
A powerful track, from a forgotten album. The mellow horn section provides a beautiful backdrop for the band. I wish more jazz albums had this under-utilized, but wonderful feature. . . It beats using a string section for the same purpose. . . . . This album is golden. . Columbia Records was bought by Sony in 1989. . . The sale occurred as CDs were coming into fashion. . . One of the albums Sony ignored (in the Columbia library) for CD "re-issue" production was (arguably) the best album by the Heath Brothers. . "Passin Thru" (1978) should be a lot more than a "phantom album." . I see the vinyl is listed at 45-dollars on-line. . .
Yeah, one of my all-time favorites! When I was in high school, a friend worked the weekend graveyard shift as DJ at the radio station in Tullahoma, Tennessee. It was Top 40 format, mostly, but the station received hundreds of vinyl promotional copies (like the one pictured above) of jazz records. There was an entire wall of shelves at the station holding all these promo records from various labels. My friend told me to help myself ...and this was one of the first records I copped. Still have it!
can you post the rest of this album ? i LOVE it its not available anywhere !!!!!!!!!!! ARTHERDOC BLUES is what I m looking for . from this album , not the later version :-)
The difference netween this and pure Muzak is pretty short, although I trully love Percy and Jimmy. Ahmad Jamal's cover on this Heath original is much more interesting.

Grew up with this song, from my parents and to understand the vibes of the Heath Brothers. I paint with this track when I created "Water is Life.

This song is 100 percent class!
This song is like the calm slow moving waves at Marina Beach coming at you smoothly!
It took me years to track this one down. Beautiful song!!
Reunited with a long lost friend since 1985! Thanks for sharing!!!
A lovely song that I first heard on 107.7 FM WDAO Jazz With Michael Ekton in 1978. Went right out and bought it. Love the way it blends together.

Back in the day, FM 99 WCPI "THE JAZZ CORNER" this was always on the turntable. Smooth, tight jazz tune.
My mom played this album alot when I was growing up.Hopefully she still has it.
I used this theme and solo's in my home movie visiting New York in 1983.
smooth as Red wine!
I have the LP. Marvelous!
Beautiful jazz at its best!!
This song was my intro to The Heath Brothers in 1977. Artherdock Blues was a cut that I also liked. Too bad this LP isn't available.
Yeaaaah maaayn soothes the soul
I have album Percy Heath was a Tuskegee airman, and they played with Miles and some of the other greats, this is just great stuff!!!!
Wow, not really sure Dwight. But the guitar player on this tune is Tony Purrone. Nami. 🎸
My favorite out of the CD.
Still waiting for this to come out on CD. I think it's their only recording that hasn't been re-released. A shame - it's a monster.
You must have it by now ? I've had this cd since the 80's I put this music on my home movie in the 80's when I was in NYC.
HEATH BROTHERS IS THE TRUTH
BOOOOOOBBBB!
Can anyone please identify the guitarist. His phrasing fits perfectly with the character and mood of this composition.
Lance Sennette The guitarist is Tony Purrone.
Too bad this will never be on CD or available for download.

Nice comment, thanks.
BOB! Was there a Heath Brothers album nga ara si Kenny Burrel? I seem to have had an album like that but I forgot.

This is not a comparison game, the song is tight, one you cannot mess up, unless you just plainly choose to!
