Science Team! I partnered up with Skybound Games to make a new mini series all about the mobile RPG Summoners War. In each video we will take a look at an aspect of the game and dive into the science behind it.
In this video we dive into different colored fire and how to breathe like a dragon. The two colors we produced were neon pink and green. We did this by dissolving lithium from batteries (to make pink) and boric acid (to make green) in 99% pure methanol.
Our first build using a plastic tube and a wooden ramp didn’t work out so hot. With the power of UA-cam I researched one of my favorite UA-camrs Grant Thompson and looked at a build he made called the “Mini Flame Thrower”. His build was genius and worked like a charm! Big shout out to Grant for coming up with that idea!
Also, the mini flamethrower worked far better than expected. It threw fire exactly like how I imagine a dragon does!

Green was definitely the coolest and that makeshift flamethrower actually worked crazy well
I totally agree, we tried other salts and got the flame to look very bright orange but the green really stood out!

i had originally come down this rabbit hole remembering greek fire from Percy Jackson, which now led me to wanting to make a Molotov with boric acid and sulfate in the alcohol, making it green
Be careful making molotovs, those can be considered explosives because they are in a closed container, so may be outlawed in some places.
This deserves more view. KEEP THE HARD WORK GOING BRO!

This should be Starfire's fire color in the titans series 💚💚💚💚💚
Table salt would have given a vibrant orange, clearly distinguishable from an ordinary flame. Another readily available additive would be a product called No-Salt. It is a Potassium Chloride salt substitute for people with blood pressure issues and would have produced a violet/lilac flame.
Copper Sulfate is also easy to buy to maintain water features, it’s sold by the pound XD It produces green flames, not as bright as Boric Acid, but still cool. It looks especially good with isopropyl alcohol, since that burns naturally blue

Red is my favirote color, but the GREEN fire was the coolest {To ME}. Do you call the fire department to let them know you are doing fire experiments? Do you alert the neighbors, so they know?
I totally agree, and I think it's because we assume fire would be red/orange and the green is just such a departure from this. And that's one of those "ask for forgiveness not permission" type deals ; )
