Remember the old days when carbon fiber became a "thing" in RC? Back then we didn't have 2.4 GHz radio systems, rather AM and FM systems in 27 and 75 MHz were widely used with interchangeable crystals to change channels. Carbon fiber chassis played havoc on this early technology and radio glitches (interference) was the norm. We had to mount our receivers on their side because most receivers weren't even shielded. Many resulted in doing all kinds of crazy things like wrapping the receiver in aluminum foil or mounting the ESC high above the chassis on shock towers or using 3 or more layers of servo tape to prevent glitching. Racers were using 6 cell battery packs with individually soldered cells and no connectors. Instead they soldered the leads from the ESC directly to the battery leads. This caused fires in the pits as the racers shorted their battery packs just by removing or installing them on their carbon fiber chassis. Yup the good old days. Fortunately technology has eliminated these issues from RC, but as you mentioned short circuits still happen today because many hobbyists are unaware that carbon fiber is conductive.
Yes sir I have a big zip lock full of different mhz crystals . I remember wrapping my reciver in rubber tape 😄 now it's way different but I noticed I was getting shocked every time I touched the chassis I looked I wasn't grounding out but maybe induction ?
@@flopackrc5452 Now that's interesting. Got the gears in my head spinning because I've never got shocked touching a carbon fiber chassis. I can't imagine what's going on other than possibly damaged battery or cap packs shrink wrap. or a loose connection somewhere. Good luck!
