You are among the few I've seen repair an old Toshiba. I know there are dozens if not tens of dozens of Toshiba T1000 fans out there with non-working motherboard due to a bad power supply section. If I could learn to fix a T1000 I'd by and fix them all. But I tried rebuilding and recapping and couldn't get it done. So good for you.

Yeah its unfortunate that schematics are virtually unobtanium for these as well. I am working on a slightly newer one, the T1200xe and its a nightmare. cap bombed and even after careful repair, it wont start and impossible to troubleshoot without schematics.
It becomes a time vampire because the ONLY way its ever going to run again is if I fully reverse engineer the PSU back down into schematics and design some type of a replacement. People have done this with other models but not this one.

@@THEtechknight Yes! I was thinking the same thing - probably easier to design a replacement PS section. If you ever do a T1000 I'd watch every second. Cheers.

Well I don't have that many, I probably have about 30 tops. Probably only 15 of those function 😂

Re: the modem port. There is a similar thing on the SLT286 portable I have. I had bought a few of them one of which had a modem in it, managed to mostly reverse engineer the UART side, the computer does pick it up as a serial port with a serial port board I made, just has an interrupt issue but transmits and receives ok. If you can find a modem you could try figuring out the connections from that (what I did with the modem for the portable) unless the pin out is documented in which case try a 16c550 or similar should hook up 1:1 with minimal logic.

Funny thing is Toshiba brands their computers as Dynabook now it seams they brought back that name

Great Video. Thank you. I just finished fixing a T1000SE myself. How did you open the ultrasonic welds of the battery pack? I am trying to get the battery apart as nice and clean as you did (26:48).

I slowly worked at it with a spudger tool until it popped apart

I was thinking about putting a raspberry pie in one of these and a modern screen. Do you think a 60% keyboard will fit in the original place? Length for length

I recently got a second hand T1000SE and I'm in the same situation than you. Powering up with 12v nothing happens and no red LED on. Feeding 7,2v to the battery pins, the red LED flashes and then pushing the power button three green LEDs turn on for a while and the goes down. Once the PCB released I have seen capacitors leaks and R501 burnt. I'll try to replace the power supply capacitors but I don't know the value of R501 (in the power supply section). Do you maybe know its value?. Thank you!
