Hey everyone! This was quite a lengthy project to complete so I hope you all enjoy. Here's a craft download: kerbalx.com/Stratzenblitz75/Halcyon-Class-Carrier This isn't the same carrier used in the video, but its very close. The one for download is fully turbo-prop powered whereas the one in the video is hybrid electric/turboprop. Turns out, electric propellers are really annoying to use and I don't want to subject anyone to that.
What is your problem with electeic propellers, i don't seem to have a problem with them.but for the hole transfer to laythe, have you a way to dock the props to the plane or were they separate entieties all the journey long?

God, I can feel the power of the engines at 1:06 when the entire carrier is falling back, but it jerks forward when they kick in. This man has earned my respect. ✊
I have watched a lot of KSP, and I mean, *A Lot*, and I have seen many impressive things. The SST3O was incredulous, and a long time favorite creation... But this tops it, just unbelievable, sitting here with my jaw on the floor, I'm gobsmacked. Bravo.
This video is literally perfection. It literally could not be any better. I thank you so much for this. I can't even express it and don''t know why, but I seriously thank you.
Sure, just give us a few decades to develop a fuel refinery on laythe, rebuild the launching mechanism, develop infrasturcure to launch the refuelr, start a war with the refinery because it wouldnt give us the refueler, fly some bombers out to laythe to assist the conflict, win the conflict, repair the refinery with minimal supplies, refuel, takeoff, escape Jool's gravity well, wait another couple years to get back to kerbin, then another couple years of aerobrakes so we dont die on re entry, somehow land this monstrosity, realise that S.H.I.E.L.D. is based on earth, not kerbin, spend another decade developing FTL warp technology or dimensional jumping technology (whichever you prefer), then FINALLY deliver.
Agreed. I find myself going to Laythe more than any other planet just because of how awesome it is to explore. Its always a pleasure to find a cool place to land and record.
Today we haul some planes to laythe... Then do formation flights and take off and land on a flying carrier... You two are both just crazy at ksp, but I love it
Not mentioning the flag planting while the carrier is still hovering in the air. That requires insane tweaking to make it hover long enough to land and plant the flag.
Cupcake Landers when such an incredible creator acknowledges another, well, highly skilled creator like Stratzenblitz75 it just goes to show how good the majority of the people in the KSP community are. BTW, Cupcake, I agree with you fully.
Watches Matt Lowne "over engineer" in his videos - thats pretty neat Watching that over engineered carrier lift off - dang thats pretty neat Watching this fuel carrier take off - JESUS FRIGGIN NEAT
Thank you! This took quite a long time to build. The props were derived from the Helios so they didn't have too many problems. The problem was putting them on a carrier and making them powerful enough to lift it. That happened quite a lot: imgur.com/a/AvkyjgX
+Max J. The carrier can refuel the planes, but since it has no ISRU it can't refuel itself. It does have a docking port in the back so you could refuel it with a support ship.
I am building an aircraft carrier in KSP, and I am considering putting ISRU on the ship. Is it better to do that or just refuel it with a support ship?
Stratzenblitz75 I suspect the huge VTOL submarine already at Laythe (and visible as one of the small explorer ships passes over it in this video) might be your go-to refueler of choice in regards to the helicarrier.
You know, sometimes I think I'm smart. Sometimes that goes to my head. I keep this channel around so when those thoughts come around, I'm immediately grounded.
i need at least 21 stages to get a rocket to the moon and here we see a f***ing carrier that travels to Laythe!!! Im always impressed how you can do such things
Vaders Faust you can go for the basic equation : Payload Mass x3 for fuel + payload mass x 0.5 for engines / equipment. Total Mass of the stage becomes payload mass for next stage and apply the same maths. With that and aiming for 3k delta V for each stage (for a 3 stage rocket minimum) you should be able to go almost everywhere in the Kerbal system.
My favourite KSP video I have ever seen! The insane craft, the tour of Laythe in your save file, the cool way you stowed those mini-planes and that bloody shot with the eclipses in the background at 8:32... truly inspiring.

You always do excellent video production work but this is hands down the best KSP video quality I have ever seen, the cinematography is absolutely amazing and so beautiful.
See how the mission time is shown in yellow in the top left the whole time, meaning KSP has dropped the framerate to keep physics stable? They usually record these things at ridiculously low framerates I think, and then speed them up in post.
