you actually look like a bit of David Tennant. you should do a Doctor Who Cosplay sometime for funzies. maybe as a short or something?
thank you for doing a long-term sponsorship with them, btw! i used your code when setting up the squarespace for the charity i'm on the board of, and it helped save us a little money!

I grew up with DW, too, so my first Doctor (as an American) was Tom Baker for two reasons. First, that's just how old I am, lol, and second, most of the US didn't get DW until Tom Baker's turn at the wheel. My dad, a die hard nerd, was a lucky duck and got to see the very first DW episodes aired in the US, which were with John Pertwee. DT is one of my favorites, though. He was just perfect for the role.
As a cis man, I’m proud to see other cis men like David Tennant who aren’t a fucking embarrassment every time they open their mouth about human rights.
Word.
Fun fact: doctor who is filmed near my grandmas house so I’ve met all the doctors from around 2000 onwards. He is without a doubt the nicest one I’ve met. Always had time for fans, laughed and joked with us and was just a good guy. One day I lost track of my mum and was crying. He saw, came over, asked what was wrong so I explained and he literally offered to pick me up to see if I could spot my mum. Obviously I said yes because it’s DAVID TENNANT and when I saw my mum I told him and he carried me over to her. I look back on that day in awe a lot because he could have just left me or gotten a crew member to deal with me but he took time out of his day to personally make sure I was okay
oml that’s so cute. thought I couldn’t love him more but I guess I was wrong 🩵🩷🤍🩷🩵
Oh my gosh that is the sweetest, kindest, loveliest story!!! 🥰
That's amazing! Defies the popular saying of never meet your idols. I would love to meet all the surviving actors playing the Doctor at some point. I live in Canada though.
@@oliviajade3655 the only Doctor I ever met was the third doctor, Jon Pertwee when I was about 12 at a convention in around '82. He was rather sweet but it was also a combo DND Dr who convention so.. I can't say I really met him I guess as it was at a fan thing. But still, I remember him as a sweet warm very British man, lol. Fun fact: also saw a preview of Blake's 7 (a fairly obscure in America brit sci-fi show that was a huge hit in the UK) before it went on PBS
@@zoegignac9032 honestly all the doctors I’ve met have been lovely. Matt smith wasn’t the best but I think we just caught him on a bad day because other people I know have said he was really nice too
The fact he buys his ally merch from smaller creators rather than big, commercial businesses is a great move too. Making a difference of multiple levels.
❤
David Tenant when David landlord walks in:
I love this joke it's so bad and I can't help but chuckle.
I like to believe that David Tenant would soundly defeat David Landlord.

"I don't wish ill of her, I just wish her to shut up" is such a mood. I know people like this, and I don't wish harm on them, I just wish they'd keep their thoughts inside their head.
They can keep their heads inside too 🙃 no need to come out 😂
respectable self restrain. I wish to wake up in a world without her too though
I am also amazed that these homophobic and transphobic people think they're being "loving and caring" by hating and dehumanizing those of us who are different. As a former conservative Christian, I sadly understand what they think, but it's still stupid in light of actual scientific evidence they choose to ignore.
@@Amethystar don't forget the church "helping" people when they themselves were found a few dozen pedophile and had facts while all these people are spreading false rumors and can't state the facts
Do you think this is a type of censorship?
"I need David Tennant to be my dad, this isn't funny anymore" is the REALEST thing I've ever heard.
Man, as a non-binary person I am so nervous for our trans brothers and sisters in the next 4 years. We need more David Tennant energy here.
as a 15 year old enby in the us i’m scared tooooo
@@Cabin7_official honestly if you're planning on going to college i would look into some overseas universities. you will have college debt if you go to a foreign university, buy you would have that anyways even if you went to college in the US. if you get into a foreign university, you will receive a visa and be allowed to stay there as long as you attend the university.
@@Cabin7_officialAs the other person said, studying overseas might be a great idea. In fact it can actually be CHEAPER to go abroad and study than studying in the US.
Mate you can't even know if you're a boy or girl so stfu
Me too
I'm 54 years old. I grew up in a time that a lot of this nuanced words didn't exist. I am asexual - but wasn't a word when I was growing up. I just told people that I was "broken". I believed I was broken. I wasn't until recently (within the last 5 years) that I understood I wasn't broken, and I was normal, and there were others like me. I spent most of my life believing something was wrong with me. I now fly my asexual flag with pride.
I'm so happy you understand that now. I'm also asexual, and simply having language and community to know that I'm not "weird" has helped me so much.
As someone who's learned a lot about themself, over the years (pan/polyamorous/demigendered), I'm really happy for you. 🤍
I'm really happy for you!! I'm also asexual, and having information and community is CRUCIAL
I am also incredibly happy that you now know that there's nothing wrong with you 🖤🤍💜 you fly your flag with pride!!
As a fellow ace, thank you so much, community is so important for us♥
As a trans person who WAS HOMELESS YOUTH, youth shelters for lgbtq+ people are SO IMPORTANT, and my dream is to open another shelter in my country. The only shelter that we have is a shelter that isn't accommodating disabled queer youth... I want to open the safe space I didn't get to have. I plan on learning psychology and social work and opening it with some friends who are on board. Stuff like that is so, so important.
That's so great! I have been homeless too, autistic non-binary plural person here. I am currently studying psychology to help queer and ND people navigate this world. Most of the time there is absolutely nothing wrong with them. But the world treats them like shit for no reason. Why can't people at least admit they would want a world in which everyone can just be kind to one another. Wishing you the best of luck! Very happy to hear about your plan! :D
Good on you. I'm sorry you've had to go through that, but thank you for taking that experience and wanting to help others in that boat. I really hope it goes well for you!
We need more ppl like you, we need to be like you.
@Diamond40000 aww thanks
"Woke" used to be AAVE(African American Vernacular English) for "This media is awake and aware of black people's struggles". Biggets learned this and started to boycott shows labeled as "Woke", and the term evolved from there.
*Bigots. The term "woke" was apparently coined by Ledbelly, a Black Blues musician in the 1930's during one of his concerts where he told his audience to "stay woke" during a police sweep of young Black folks being wrongly arrested for the r*pe of a White woman. The term was popular in civil rights activism ever since. It's only in the last 20 years or so that bigots got ahold of it & twisted it.
That's why, when I hear someone talking about being "anti-Woke", I hear them saying "pro-White-Supremacy", and when they attack "Woke", I hear them saying, "I'm a flaming racist."
And I will never hear otherwise. Because, as you point out, _that's what they're really saying_ given the source and original meaning of the term "woke."
Yes! I can't even take someone seriously who uses it as an insult. It's a GOOD thing to be awoken, keeping your eyes open and seeing things the way they really are. It was coined in the 30's by black Americans who were talking about social injustices towards black people. "Woke" isn't the insult conservatives thinks it is, it just makes them look dumb.
I was about to say this. They just stole the world and bastardized it.
It's a shorthand they can use to say "this media frightens me because it upsets the shallow view of the world I cultivated in relative isolation from the larger world and I'm not willing to reflect on my choices any further." Bit of a mouthful, so I understand the choice to shorten it.
Mad respect for David and Georgia Tennant because we need people to step up more than ever.
The power couple we needed💞
I'm a straight cis white man, I am the furthest thing from any sort of minority you can possibly get but my position has always been this.
I don't pretend to understand what your life is like, I can't emotionally sympathize either but regardless, people should be free to be who they are without judgment or fear, and in the case of trans people they need a little bit of help to truly align their body with who they are inside, and any such help should be provided without judgment.
And I will oppose anyone who would object to this, who would hurt, demean, or deprive people based on who they are. Trans people exist, and I cannot, for the life of me understand why anyone would have any issue with that fact.
I don't know if I can measure up to David Tennant on this, but that's what I think and I hope it help trans people to know they have allies.
Very virtuous.
And upon seeing 2 transwomen entering the female bathroom would you feel as confident sending your 11 year old daughter in there as you would if you'd seen 2 females enter, any doubts at all?
It’s nice to hear we have allies, thanks for being one
There's nothing wrong with being a straight white cis man either. Man all I want is to just be allowed to live in a world where instead of demonizing our differences they're celebrated and people are all allowed and encouraged to take pride in who they are, not who they're told they have to be or else they'll be punished. Diversity in nature is a GOOD thing and the few loudmouths trying to create a monoculture of human nature really don't seem to understand that's how ecosystems collapse and their efforts are dooming humanity into a dead end path where we cannot adapt to how the world has always changed because they're stuck in the past. I don't wish ill on anyone, I just wish for some to stop causing us all harm because they don't see how they're harmed as well by their actions. It's just so sad, we need a break
What of women who are afraid when men enter spaces which have been traditionally (and should always be) female only?
Speaking of allies, last year, I found out that The Beastie Boys paid for the gender affirming surgery of Donna Lee Parsons, who produced their first two EPs. They knew she wouldn’t just accept the money, so the group claimed it was unpaid royalties they owed her. She sadly passed away from cancer a year later.
I always loved The Beastie Boys, but hearing about that just affirms my love even stronger. There are a lot of wonderful people who are here to support each other. Dark days are ahead, but there will always be love ❤
I love the beastie boys, it’s comforting to know they support us trans folk
And they gave a sincere and thoughtfull apology for their past homofobhia. They actually seem like true allies.
@@matildauebel7599 I can never totally trust or forgive them feeding into misogyny and homophobia, cos I remember such 'bro' BS they enabled as a queer kid. But I am glad they apologised. It would have been better as punks and rappers if they hadn't ever done it though...some of us also lived through the 70's and 80's and managed not to spout that crap.
Geez, that is some tragic timing. But even though the gesture was for her, it sends a wider message, as you imply. Good example of public figures knowing how to use their amplified voices for good. I'm not too familiar with the past behaviors of theirs that others are referring to, but attempting to make up for mistakes is definitely better than defending or ignoring them. Maybe some of their fans will follow, or have followed, suit.
@ they knew she was dying. She wanted to live the last year of her life in a body she was comfortable with and they helped her with that
When someone's *existence* is made 'political', it's not politics anymore. Fellow humans have the responsibility to speak up. We've seen what happens when they don't.
Exactly. It's like when "allies" complain that you're "way too into politics". Like OMG, I'm so sorry I'm concerned that my **right to exist as myself** being in jeopardy is so hard for you. 🙄🤬
YOU made it political. You force your beliefs on others and changed legislations and policies. No trans identified male was allowed to participate in women's sports before, no trans identified male were held in women's prisons, no trans identified male was allowed in women's shelters, no trans identified male was allowed in women's public showers and changing rooms. You changed all that. When people object this violation of women rights, you gaslighted them and claimed there in no violation because "trans women are women". You even forced your way into children with things like about gender identity nonsense without the parents consent and "drag queen story hour", and hiding the fact that a kid decided to change pronouns and name from their parents.
When are you going to take responsibility for your actions and understand that forcing your beliefs on others is what make others object you? You can exist as you will, nobody gives a shit what you call yourself or think you are. But when you decide that everyone else have to agree with what YOU think, believe and feel, and accept that as the ultimate truth regardless of what they think, believe or feel, and regardless of if it violate their rights or harm them, and you shut everyone who says something you don't like - then you make it everyone's else issue, and people are going to object and protest that. This is YOUR doing. This is just a reaction to your action and it's very tame in comparison.
Also, you are nothing like Jews in 1930's Germany, the comparation is ridiculous and laughable and everyone outside your echo chamber knows that and roll their eyes.
@@waffles3629you can "exist". Nothing prevents you from existing. Y'all talk like your are going to be poofed out of existence. You just can't choose the bathroom that you are more "comfortable" with because of your so-called "gender dysphoria" while ignoring completely others' people comfort, or cheat your way into a medal in women's sports if you are a male, etc.
@@saoirse2963 Gender Dysphoria is very much real, at least according to the DSM-5, and the proper way to treat it is with social and medical transitioning. Btw, trans men have gotten yelled at and have had cops called on em for using the women's bathroom even though the trans men(or as you'd say, biological woman) were legally required to. It's not predatory, it's not to cheat at sports, it's literally to exist as one's self. Also drag queen story hour is gay men, not trans women, don't get em mixed up. All it does is show boys can be feminine and still be boys.
No one is forcing you to call trans women women, no one is going to arrest you for it unless it gets to the point of harassment.
Btw, no one in this comment section compared trans people to Jewish people, you need help.
@@nathandavid5886 what does liking your own comment mean?

If we don't, Nicolas Cage will steal him.
An amazing treasure to the world, indeed.
@TheCrispiestLemon Absolutely not! We'd need the DaVinci code to find him again!
Matt Smith even from Doctor Who corrected a interviewer after they misgendered Emma Darcy cause they are non binary like that’s all it takes to just be a good ally and person in general and Doctor Who is such a safe show it’s so amazing to watch💙🩷
I remember watching shows and movies David tennant was in and wanting to be like him. And when I came out as Trans and learned he was an ally I legit just cried. He is definitely the ally we deserve
Love that man, he’s awesome!

On the topic of Woke, I think there's a point some people miss. Woke is a term that simply means being aware of social injustices, and a desire to improve things. It's no surprise that the bigots, transphobes, racists and so on will ridicule the idea. It's also no great shock that they can't define it when asked. That wouldn't do at all. It would show who they are.
Being awake to what's going on .. but the people who think that's a bad thing are the same people who boast about failing elementary school science.
we need to reclaim the term
For the right, it effectively means “anything I don’t like.”
Woke is a religion which can be hard to define. Can you define what Catholic or Muslim is? One must look to the beliefs system in order to define the acolyte.
@MrRickytuk if woke is a religion then can you tell me who the leader is? What is our God?
There's a Doctor Who audiobook, with the 6th Doctor, where they said something along the lines of "it's very upsetting when someone you admire and thought you could trust ends up being a horrible person." And it was published around the time JK's comments started.
It's not David Tennant related, but I wanted to bring it up because Doctor Who has shown support for lgbtq so many times.
Doesn't the Sixth Doctor also have a nonbinary companion in the audio adventures?
Not David Tennant related but Patrick Troughton gave me some "Ally Vibes." Usually in small ways like using gender neutral language for The Doctor like "they/them" etc. He at least recognized that The Doctor is or could become a very "fluid" character and how they would have a different understanding of race and gender than humans at least. He just seemed really cool in the interviews I found.
@aarondubourg3706 Wahoo!!! Patrick Troughton W.
This really strikes me hard now considering the recent news regarding Neil Gaiman.
in a world where the 'bare minimum' isn't really the bare minimum, it's nice to see support from people who could easily say nothing or go the opposite direction without much critique
I'm cisgender... I wont pretend to understand the trans experience because it's just not something I relate to, especially non-binary because my sex and not my personality is an important part of my gender personally. But even when I don't understand something, it's just, so what. You wont understand everything, and you don't need everyone to be like you because of it. Just let people live their lives. "I don't get it" isn't an excuse to accept people being hurt.
The way I always explain it to people is like: "I am fine when you don't understand something, there is lots of things I also do not understand. The difference is when you start saying things out of this lack of understanding or worse, unwillingness to learn anything".
Someone who's wise knows that they cannot understand or experience everything. But they know how to listen and imagine the discomfort of another by finding a similar experience and expanding that pain and to sit with that pain so they can understand just a little bit of what it is like for the person and learn that you would not want this person to feel pain constantly and you can alleviate some if you stand with them.
As a fresh out of the egg transperson, even the trans experience eluded me when i considered myself cis. It was hard to grasp and understand but over time my real identity grew in me. Suddenly its like i was struck like a lightning bolt of the eureka about how my decade long complicated negative emotions worked and what the source was, it has to do with my identity, something both circumstance and negative views had supressed. I previously only had hobbies, thats all i felt i was but now im more and im working out how ti make that a reality. To get to the point, as a trans person, even i grapple with the trans experience and it just isnt something you or the vast majority of people can relate to, its so weird and difficult to understand but the emotions and feelings are visceral and violently potent. The effect on me ruins my social life and my effectiveness at work etc because of the dissonance in my mind and body. The onoy thing people can do is listen to us, be respectable and respecting, ask difficult questions and believe us, and most importantly support us, because we are such a small minority that we alone dont have a large democratic voice, so we rely on the common man to give us space in society.
@ Completely. I don't understand physics either, but I'm on protests about how we should ban physics from existing.
@ Completely. However, people never apply that logic fairly. For example, I remember seeing about people who struggle with the exact same that transgender people do but with race, but even though both transgender and transrace people seem to share the exact same feelings just towards different parts of their identity both groups seem to hate each other because they refuse to take their own feelings and use them to sympathise with people struggling with what's basically the exact same as them. It's a shame, really.

My heart goes out to our dear LGBTQ+ siblings in the US and everywhere where your rights and lives are at risk. You are unwillingly our heroes, the revolutionaries standing up to unimaginably powerful organisations and individuals. My advice is to be kind to your own minds, allow yourselves to be sad and scared. This is sad and scary. But live your lives unapologetically. You owe nobody any explanation, and your lives are acts of resistance against tyranny. We stand with you today and always. There is no other side for us other than by yours.
As a Scottish American, David is one of my favorite Scottish celebrities. He's so wonderful and talented and funny. He seems like a very sweet man. He makes me proud of my heritage!
I love his natural accent, it's wonderful. I was at Awesome Con in DC a few years ago when he was there, and they got him to say "wibbly wobbly timey wimey," but with his natural accent, and it was beautiful.
Met David at the proud nerd con you mentioned last year, best day of my life (not exaggeration). I took a photo with him with my trans flag and he was so excited about it (he obviously loves taking photos with fans with pride flags) and he was also wearing the nonbinary rainbow pin

When JKR came out as a TERF during the pandemic, I got rid of all my Harry Potter movies. When she went after David Tennant last June, I got rid of all of my HP Pops.
I had kept the books because I love them and she wouldn't be getting anymore money from me if I reread them.
Then this past weekend, the combo of dreading the Trump inaguaration and finding out that two biologists/atheists I used to admire, Richard Dawkins and Jerry Coyne, have become rabid TERFs too made up my mind about the HP books. I am getting rid of them. I listed them Monday and one just sold yesterday. Yay i'll get a little bit of money out of the books. Boo, that there are still people who support JKR.
I did know a bit about Dawkins' TERFy-ness but finding out about Coyne really saddened and angered me.
sadly Dawkins went off the rails on the culture war stuff several years ago now. I don't think he likes women very much in general to be honest; when I met him to have him sign my book and I was the only one at the talk who had her own copy (not a free one they handed out beforehand), I expected him to at least be nice but he gave me kind of a smirking look that wasn't super welcoming. at the time I thought maybe he was trying to say I was the only one who came prepared, but in hindsight it felt judgy. idk, maybe just misreading but I remember feeling weirdly disappointed in the meeting. then he went down the anti-Islam circuit and I was just like ok, wrap it up lmao
For all South Park's awfulness on this subject, I do love the unintended calling out of Dawkins as a transphobe.
Two magic fantasy series that I read and enjoyed while my friends were talking about Harry Potter:
The Doomspell Trilogy by Cliff McNish and The Septimius Heap Series by Angie Sage (first book called Magyk).
The Doomspell Trilogy has modern day kids experiencing a magical world with a prophecy (as far as I can remember -- I haven re-read them in quite a few years). It follows Rachel and Eric (her brother), while it's clear she's the protagonist, Eric's perspective kept me invested in the story when I didn't agree with Rachel's behaviour and motivations and was the heart of the story for me.
The Septimius Heap Series has a more medieval feel that I often felt like a more magical Golden Compass world but a bit more in the past. It follows Septimius Heap and Jenna, two kids with fates intertwined with the world's (without giving too much away). There's a lot more mystery, and the world building was elegantly done, it felt like a world that had evolved with people who could use magic. The adults in the books were concerned with keeping the kids safe (which was refreshing for a book with young protagonists, I often see the adults in these types of books as stupid for not taking care of them better) and they introduce the magic system in a way that didn't feel too overwhelming whilst not simply willing more into existence as the books go on. The characters felt very dimensional with flaws that were strengths and vis versa. While given the amount of characters (the heap family has a lot of kids) you'd think they'd blend together, but they all felt distinct.
I never really liked Harry Potter, but I really enjoy the fantasy and magic genre and I feel like these are some books that people who enjoyed Harry Potter may like if they knew about them. :)
I haven't really heard much about the authors' views online, but they're good books if you want something that may tempt you away from the HP books.
@0_Aconite_0 The fantasy series I read instead of HP was Percy Jackson, which I still love to this day. And, as a bonus, the author is a wonderful ally and the newer series have a bunch of queer characters.

Trans rights are human rights!
I'm 30. I've gone through the rollercoasters of 'it gets better' 'jk there's a trap door at rock bottom' my entire life. I literally only got to start medically transitioning 6 months ago when I finally started T. The next 4 years might end me, but knowing people out there with the energy David and Georgia Tennant bring into the world gives me hope that things can get better
Things will get better. We WILL get through this!
You’re not alone, and there are people all over the world who care and will do what they can to fight for your rights.
I'm 36 and I've been on T since 2020, I'm also north of the border. It's going to get worse before it gets better, but that doesn't mean anyone is helpless. Get *in person* community, get together in real life - if it isn't safe where you are, it is *MORE* important, if you need to, get dishonest (lie, run away, etc). Be as safe as possible and tell any trusted adult if you have one, any trusted person if you don't.
I'm rooting for you!
I can’t speak for the future, especially not yours. I can say however, that I have many, many trans friends and all of them are now content.
There was a moment for each, just after transitioning when the world seemed sort of grim. Their confidence wasn’t there yet and the transition wasn’t complete. One day, suddenly, something changes. They seem calm and rested. As if they had finally awaken and just… become. It’s then I know whatever journey they were on has ended. The war is over and peace sets in.
I have seen the desperation and I have experienced it’s resolve. I firmly believe in you. There will be bumps, but you are you now. You can do this 🤍
💙 Trans rights are human rights, Doctor Who is amazing, and David Tennant is still my favorite Doctor.
I grew up listening to the how to train your dragon audiobooks (available on UA-cam for free) which are voiced by David Tennant, as a trans person it makes me so incredibly happy to know how supportive he is, that the man who filled my nights with joy and comforted me in my worst moments thinks I’m valid, I could cry
I didn't know those were available here!
Be aware, political trends in the USA are a sign of potential political trends worldwide! When the USA goes liberal, liberal leaning parties tend to be voted in in other countries. When the USA goes conservative, conservative leaning parties tend to get voted in other countries. The USA has just gone full fascist, and I'm terrified. I'm not in the US, but I already know there's conservative leanings here leading up to the election later this year.
In this case other countries may have preceded us. It's thought to be a backlash after covid.
@@NomadSoul76 This indeed. The USA has not necessarily been a leading factor in terms of politics: the political systems of other countries tends not to be the same, and especially in countries with multi-party political systems this will not line up.
It hasn't in The Netherlands nor Belgium when T***p was inaugurated. Also: governments fall, in some countries before finishing a term by an American president, calling elections at basically random times.
@@totallybored5526 riiiight, that's why I've heard more and more people in my country (not US) celebrating Trump's win and hoping our conversation party wins and is more in line with Trump's policy.
I didn't know that, but my country has an election in February and it does indeed look grim.
@@NomadSoul76 I wouldn't say it was a backlash to covid, more like the pandemic was just the perfect environment to grow the conditions for populist fascists. People were afraid and confused, we were isolated, and we spent most of our time on the internet. That left us more vulnerable to conspiracy theorists and populist politicians, who took advantage of the fact that the entire world was tripping over each other to parrot their anti-establishment narrative, and since many people were cut off from their support structures due to being isolated, there was a significant growth for those groups
As a soon to be 60yr old Trans Man having only started my transition 11yrs ago. I still find the hate hard to manage at times. I am glad kids have the language and knowledge to know what Nonbinary and Trans is, as well as just having a visible acronym LGBTQIA+. More love less hate. David Tenant is a great Man.
So delighted to hear this. I watched Lily Simpson's video on one of his roles in the past as a trans woman, and he did it so well with so much respect in SPITE of how the show was written. He cared about us all this time, it's not new. David seems to be a really, really good person to his core.
omg SO TRUE, DAVID. "Woke" means having basic common sense, empathy and kindness. That's it. That's all there is to being "woke". It's a good thing. When someone calls me woke, I can't see that as an insult. Instead, I know I'm doing the right thing.

Davina, my love
Davina was brilliant
With all the executive orders going on in the US right now, seeing a positive post for trans people is refreshing.
When I was in high school I saw David Tennent in Hamlet and that cemented him as my favorite actor…it takes an incredible person to be able to take something as old as Shakespeare and not only act beautifully in it, but deliver the lines with such conviction and nuance that it made it easy to understand. I then loved him as the Doctor and he was my favorite as well. He even showed up in my dreams as the Doctor and we went on a mini adventure together.
Hearing that he is such a powerful (yet humbly reluctant by virtue of the fact that it seems silly to advocate for the obvious) ally just further etched him into the annals of my heart.
Thank you Jamie for putting this out there and thank you Mr. Tennent for being a decent human being in a time of wolves.
There are definitely steps backwarrds happening right now, but elsewhere in the world there are also some steps forward being taken. We just need to make those steps forward cancel out or surpass the steps backwards.
I remember when I first got into Good Omens through the show. Tennant's Crowley, along with Sheen's Aziraphale, showed up a few times in dreams that started off as nightmares. They for some reason came to either be morale support, or straight up save me, in those nightmares.
I have maladaptive daydreaming issues, which have followed me for almost three decades. Too often, I latch onto villains and monsters, but the Ineffable Husbands were two of the few characters I adore that I consider heroes.
For the longest time, before then, I couldn't watch Tennant; it was never anything against him, but due to trauma in my early adulthood, involving someone that Tennant vaguely looked like. It took seeing his Crowley to finally work past that hangup, and I am forever grateful for that.
Gaiman's vile actions aren't going to take the Ineffable Husbands away from me. Besides, he can't lay full claim to those characters, since GO was originally co-authored by Sir Terry Pratchett. I have no interest in giving any of Gaiman's other works a chance, and honestly didn't have much interest before the reports came in, anyways. His abhorrent past is not going to take two of my few fictional heroes from my daydreams, for they were never solely his, to begin with. His cruelty will not define what Aziraphale and Crowley mean to me.
15:10 when i found out "woke" was supposed to be a bad thing as a kid i was so confused because until i heard anyone disapprove of it i just imagined the word being used like "thats woke bro" yk like "thats cool bro"
Woke isn't bad. It really means "to be aware of injustice, especially as it relates to racism". It's been expanded over the years to include other marginalized groups like LGBTQA+ people, but the term means just that, marginalized people. It was coined in the 1930's by a Black blues musician named Ledbelly when he told his audience during one of his performances to to "stay woke" because cops were unjustly arresting young Black men for r*aping a White woman & they were looking for any excuse to take them in. The term became a watchword for Black civil rights activists to stay aware of what was going on around them, to pay attention to the racist institutions baked into society. Other civil rights groups took up the term over time when their causes overlapped theirs, like gay rights in the 70's. It all really boils down to "treat others who different than you with respect". That's "woke". It isn't bad. It's good. Only bigots think woke is bad.
Expecting to be treated as bigot, but the other side of narrative started using "woke" term to describe situations where the definitions of "freedom" or "welcoming" strayed very far in contrast to what was the norm, and then was pushed to be the new norm, without imo enough time to process things as a civilization. I guess it's easy to just call it "far left" but it would just feed the animosities and lead to fights in the comments 😅 there's more leftist movements that are critiqued and fall under the umbrella of "wokeness".
I think that (in social medias oversaturated with extremes) terms "woke" and "misogine" or "transphobe" are somewhat equal. "I see that you think x and y, so then you must think abcd and hence you are critically wrong and dangerous". The parts of the sides that are most often shown to the "regular" people, are shown in order to make camps, set up strawman arguments and to altogether make the conversations impossible, stomping down on any reason.
Expecting most of people here might share similar attitude as the creator of the video, I want to point out two things, but feel free to ignore me, if you want to.
"Woke mainstream" is using term transphobe, even though most of people called that, are not afraid of trans people. Yet it sounds better than for example trans haters or deniers. It's quick, strong, aggressive and suggests sickness and that this "fear" is irrational, as other phobias are. One fear related to that, which I believe has some reasons to it, is propagating it to young kids, but that term was used way before, and doesn't change the mechanisms it uses.
The other is, that nowadays (for me it's relatively fresh, but maybe it was used in the USA way earlier than I am familiar) a lot of people that are speaking up from the other side, are called grifters. And there's a lot of them. These are people who are toxic and ride on a wave of "woke bad" trendings, but there are also people who use valid arguments, are respectful and get hit by association. The same is happening at the other side. There are people who have valid points, want to talk and are respectful, and there are those who attack without trying to listen, sitting comfortably in their "inclusive" community, which shows hipocrisy and also leads to more tensions, that could be avoided.
Welp, I said more than I planned to, when I was starting the comment ;p All the best to you, and stay safe!
Well I would say that it is cool to care about civil rights and speaking out when you see governments attacking them by attacking minorities. Extreme-right politicians however have been spinning it into something different to oppose anythinig that means progress or change in society. And especially when it means society is increasingly changing away from the one these politicians (and their dumb-right followers) grew up in.
And because they never learned to have introspection on why this change scares them so much, they feel justified blaming anyone who they consider to be responsible for this progress.
Huh, not to my surprise, my comment has been removed, and core of what I said was trying to explain the term from right side perspective and inviting to debate and point out that haters and fearmongers are on both sides...
Figures 🤷
Woke isn’t bad but the people who claim to be woke are the most hateful, ignorant, racist pieces of garbage hiding behind a passive aggressive shell
So often media is negative... and while i emjoy videos about people being ignorant and ridiculous... you dont realise that it still drains you. this was so refreshing and delightful, and a welcome change.
David Tennant is truly a breath of fresh air when so much of the media normalises and accepts transphobia. The man gives me hope for this world.
not only is he the best doctor and a awesome trans ally but also a amazing voice actor too he's voiced ScoorgeMCDuck in DuckTales (2017) which if you haven't seen go and watch it, its a very charming and fun series :]
Oh, man! I loved DuckTales (2017) I was obsessed with it back in 2019-21. My favourite episodes were The 85 Cent Problem and Nightmare on Killmotor Hill!
Sometimes when David's talking, I close my eyes and pretend it's Scrooge Mcduck.
@mc.gemstone He does audiobooks, too. Amonst other things, he's done How to Train Your Dragon and The Wizard's of Once (probably the whole series, but I haven't listened to it), as well as both the original Chitty Chitty Bang Bang and the recent series of follow-ups. Also some of the Tenth Doctor audio adventures and novels.
💙💙💙 Thank you so much for this wonderful video! As a grandmother of a trans child I appreciate your sharing this. David Tennant is my all time favorite Dr. Who and favorite actor. I don’t have the words to express how grateful I am for his out spoken support 👏👏👏 Just tears of gratitude!
i was so happy seeing this pop up on my feed, as a kid/early teen when he was the doctor aswell, he was also always my favorite doctor by far, words can’t express how happy i am my past idol would support anyone like me and being so loud abt it on top of that!!
Yeah, David is probably the most unproblematic celebrity of all time. I love him so much. I'm excited to cosplay him!! 🥹
Along with Keanu Reeves!
What about the time he called his fans "fuckers on the wrong side of history" when they had genuine concerns and criticism over the dwindling quality of Doctor Who?
@@Jackson-ub1uv this doesn’t appear to have ever happened, those *specific* words were used when he was talking about JK and transphobes. Feel free to cite your sources though, I’m curious to see if you’re pulling this out of your ass.
The only fans of Who he’s ever gone after were the ones who only started whinging about quality when they stopped casting white men as the Doctor.
If the only one examples of someone being “pRoBlEmAtIc” are when they talk shit to bigots it sure seems like they’re the opposite of problematic.
@@caketality The decline in quality happened at the same time as Ncuti's casting, not as a _result_ of it. As an example, David's second go as the Doctor had him (a 2,000+ year old Time Lord from a civilisation that has provably ascended past humanity's current obsession with gender) get lectured on _pronouns_ by a trans girl, before later being told by her and Donna that his "male privilege" somehow makes him incapable of realising the Meta-Crisis can just be "let go of" and that the sex of a given incarnation somehow affects a Time Lord's intelligence and problem-solving skills. This whole thing happened in a single episode that took place _before_ Ncuti ever appeared in the programme and to the second most beloved version of the Doctor, so Ncuti's casting had nothing to do with people's displeasure.
When Doctor Who fans say that there are issues with the writing, it's because _there are issues with the writing;_ Doctor Who, and the Doctor himself, has always stood for unifying humanity, stopping conflicts, and (as Twelve once said) just being _kind,_ so anytime an episode has a rhetoric that needlessly pushes others down (in the above case it'd be men and, due to the wording in the episode, others who are "male-presenting") or promotes exploitation (Jodie once had an episode about space Amazon where her Doctor made a speech about how "the system" of capitalism is perfectly fine and it's the people who use it that are the issue; compare this to "Oxygen," where Twelve stands _against_ capitalism and notes that the end point of such a system is people's lives being assigned economic value and workers being killed off when they become "unprofitable"), viewers are rightfully going to stand up and point out that the very principles of the show are being violated.
@@Jackson-ub1uv so what I’m getting from this is you do not actually have receipts for Tennant saying who fans were “fuckers on the wrong side of history”? Because, and I can’t stress this enough, it does not appear to have ever happened.
If a “Who fan” feels attacked when Tennant is calling out transphobia then either their reading comprehension needs work or they’re actually a transphobe. I don’t really care what their critique is in either case.
When I was a kid back in the 1970's there was a TV special called Free To Be You And Me. The gist of it was showing kids it was okay to be who they were without worrying about what society said or thought about them. If don't think that any American TV network would produce such a show today.
I played “Free To Be You and Me” by Marlow Thomas cd and cassette tape for my kids growing up.💙
A huge part of my childhood in the eighties.

On the subject of allies, as a trans man, I am so blessed in my life and so thankful for that. My mom and both my sisters are super supportive and even one of my sisters is trans. I have a supportive partner as well who loves me and lifts me up. On top of that, my job is even supportive. I work for a call-center. thank you so much for sharing some positivity!! this made me feel glad that i've always supported and loved david tennant as he continues to be a vocal and important ally!
Unfortunately, we lost another ally of the cause in David Lynch. Though it was odd to have the trans woman in Twin Peaks played by the cis male actor David Duchovny (what's with all the Davids here?), the portrayal was absolutely respectful. Even moreso in the revival of the show where Lynch gave a super powerful line to the character he plays himself: “When you became* Denise, I told all of your colleagues, those clown comics, to fix their hearts or die.”
* Don't like this particular phrasing, but the message still stands.
i’m so glad you mentioned this! i love Twin Peaks and Denise as a character
I have a pin on my backpack with a blue rose and the line "fix your hearts or die." And coming from David Lynch it's not even a threat -- it's a _compassionate_ "your hate is going to kill you -- fix your heart and save yourself, not just the people you hate." Because while trans folks are the ones most hurt by transphobia, the transphobes' victories are all Pyrrhic, since they're also doing moral violence to themselves.
I’m glad you highlighted this. ‘Fix their hearts or die’ is such a powerful message. And it shows how trans allyship has evolved. David Duchovny was originally cast as Denise in 1990, when it was common to cast cis men as trans women, and the portrayal was respectful even then. Denise wasn’t a caricature. I think the imperfect phrasing in 2017 was, while obviously not great, entirely human. We all make mistakes, including as part of allyship, and casting the idea of someone as a perfect ally is dangerous.
Also, while this shouldn’t necessarily be the focus, this helps win over people who aren’t necessarily intentionally transphobic/on the fence, but aren’t sure of things and are listening to the loud voices of the right wing that say they will get persecuted by the left for putting one foot out of line (or have experienced this before bcs it does happen, from all brushes of politics). Similarly, I loved the portrayal of Donna and Sylvia Noble in the recent Doctor Who specials. They talked about how they’re not always sure of the right thing to say to/about Donna’s trans daughter, but they love her and want the best for her. I think that’s an attitude more common in trans parents than we realise. Showing that journey of confusion (or even being a bit reactionary) when a child comes out to learning about them and being genuinely supportive hopefully will be a role model for parents of trans kids who are in a similar position.
@@ivyhoneyy0 I am fully with you that allyship doesn't have to be perfect, but I also thought it worth pointing out that there were some minor hiccups or ways to improve. No single person can be the arbiter of deciding whether allyship is good enough or perfect, especially not me as a cis man. I didn't want to omit any facts so people can make their own conclusion.
Also, I truly believe that if anybody had had the chance to talk to Lynch about those aspects, he would have thought about them and acknowledged that he still had something to learn only to do even better at the next chance he got.
@@DrZaius3141 oh absolutely! Definitely good to point out where things can improve, and to think on not putting anyone on a pedestal.
David tennant is like the supportive father of the ally world. Genuinely brings me to tears 🥲
I understand that we need to speak up and discuss issues of transphobia and bigotry in general, and I think people should absolutely continue to do that, but I just want to thank you for making this positive video. I can't watch those negative ones anymore because I have been completely shutting down every time I hear the news these days. This made me feel like there's hope again, and that if I can just get through this nonsense maybe there will be a better world on the other side. I gotta remember good folk exist in power, not just idiots.
Yeah, laughing at the silly people who wish me dead is only so fun for so long, as much as I appreciate this channel and its creator.
I liked the Anita Bryant comparison a lot because I had been thinking that Tennant's "shut up" was like a more polite version of hitting a bigot in the face with a pie.
Oh yeah David is wayyy too polite to pie someone in the face but he still got his message across
So I started watching doctor who when Matt Smith was on his last season. The first ep I saw when it was released was the 50th anniversary I was 9. At the age of nine I didn’t know what being trans was or that I was but I knew I loved David tennant. Growing up and realizing who I am and seeing that (what seemed like) a lot of the world hated it but seeing David Tennant stand by me (metaphorically of course) made my inner child so happy
Thank you for sharing that! I did not know David Tennant was such a vocal ally and finding out abler this makes me very happy 🥰
Thank you, I really needed a heartwarming story today given everything else that's currently in the news. Thanks for the positive energy!
I can't take someone seriously who uses the word "woke" as an insult. To "stay woke", it basically means waking up, keep our eyes are open and see things the way they really are, especially around injustices. This was coined in the 30's by black Americans as well as used for Black Lives Matter. Some conservatives primarily seemed to think it's an insult and totally tried "reinventing" the word to fit their agenda. It's just not a derogatory word and those using it as an insult are basically insulting themselves. I know I'm not explaining it well but there is a lot of good information about this online that can be researched.
What I always tell people is that when extreme-right politicians use their explanation of the word, is that they are longing for the society they grew up in, because they don't recognize the society they live in today because it scares them. They long for the time of when they were a child and had their parents protect them from the scary outside world, but now they are adults they now have to do that themselves and failed to learn how to do that properly, and blame the people they deem responsible for the change they do not want.
Yes. Conservative attitudes have their place to be fair. But. Change and progress are necessary. I've seen the benefits and that's all I need.
Thank you so much for compiling this. David is just such an amazing ally for us to have

15:14 I once saw someone who used to be a bigot make a video talking about how he realized one day he didn’t even know what it meant. Then the more he looked into it the worse it sounded, and because of this he turned around and became an ally. It was kinda nice to see

Wonderful to hear, really! Maybe the other bigots out there can grow brains someday, too.
I love David Tennant! I’m also a bit jealous of their kid. My father once told me he’s okay with gay people in boy scouts but not atheists, that’s the extent of his acceptance. We need more fathers like Tennant.

I have to ask as I have zero experience with this, but what problems do transgender people _actually_ face? Like, are trans people being arrested or being abused and discriminated against in day-to-day life, or is it more just anxiety brought on by politicians?
@@Jackson-ub1uv a lot of trans people experience gender dysphoria which brings up its own set of issues, a lot of people will mentally or even physically abuse their kids if they come out as trans, a lot of kids get kicked out of their house by their parents bcs they come out, trans people experience a lot of hate and hate crimes, there's also politicians trying to take away trans rights, a lot right wingers will harass trans people and basically sexually harass them asking what genitals they have.
