Tarikh Sudan: translation: History of the land of the black. Sunni Ali professed Islam and was a member of a Muslim dynasty he was not consider has Muslim by some because of what he did to the scholars of sankoré university who were close to his opponent and also for some of his animism belief.
That's an interesting question! West Africa has a rich history with many notable kings and leaders. Some people consider Sundiata Keita, the founder of the Mali Empire in the 13th century, to be one of the greatest conquerors due to his unification of several tribes and expansion of the empire. Others might point to Mansa Musa, who is famous not only for his wealth but also for his role in promoting culture and trade. Each of these leaders contributed significantly to the region's history in their own way.
A few corrections, if I may, in an otherwise good video. I think the name is Sonni Ali (Beer). @UC5ed2Fl0vu9mXMIFYF1Q7Pw yes its true, but the situation is very complex. The black slaves(haratins)are found in rural vilages and many of them love to be enslaved and are highlly endoctinated and this subject is tabou in our country, you can be killed if you cross the lines, those slaves are teached to hate their fellow and love only their masters, and the sadest thing is the use of other haratins to controll and opress other haratins, every time a black african who rises his voice and try to free his brothers and sisters he can be killed at any time like birame dah abeid, biram dah abeid can be murdered at any time cause pale arabs want him to be dead. And in 1988-1989 their was a rebellion and attempt done by black africans to take controll of mauritania, the rebellion failled and were all killed and their was many officers and black generals in the army but after the failled rebelion they were all killed and deported to senegal, many black mauritanians were killed their land taken and no one talk about it,from that day the pale arabs took the true controll of mauritania all the generals and colonels are pale arabs, the black africans are very descriminated, the prestigious schools have only white arabs, and any attempt of freedom done by black africans can lead to their genocide,if we were a minority in this country we wouldn't exist any more. And pale arabs in mauritania are from yemen, the black mauritanians existed since the ghana and songhaï empire. We know the fight is tough but we hope that some day situations will change. Mauritania 70%blacks,30%pales arabs
@Heru Behudety one thing else, the pale arabs have everything in mauritania all army officers are from their tribe, the economy is in their hands, what makes hard to fight them, they have every thing in this country the black africans are very poor.

Seeing how west africans which were a minority at the time, conquered and displaced the blush people in Africa, and still treat them as a lesser than human even now, but it comes down to the strongest of that time winning land
While I definitely appreciate the significance to our people s confidence talking about these high times in Africa, I shake my head as to why, with all skills and wisdom these past civilizations had, they had nothing for the impeding threats from Europe and the Middle East.
There was no problems with the middle east . But our ancestors never really embraced and mastered Firearm technology. The western European showed up with firearms and even a child with a pistol can overcome an adult soldier without one. It is really quite easy to understand.
Because at this time Europeans were not a threat in the slightest. Colonisation didn’t start until the 1800s this like 300-400 years after Songhai, a unified state the size of Songhai never came back. Though, if the battle of Jenne went a little different which happened after the fall of Songhai between Mali Empire forces and Moroccans then the Mali Empire would of came back, they lost due to treasonous Mandinka generals and fire arms. Resistance to colonialism was also huge, Samory Toure was beating back France until the British stopped the supply of guns. Akans were just outgunned and the same for most groups.
Excuse and correct me if I’m wrong, but Sunni Ali was in fact a Muslim. He was only called infidel because he still maintained the spiritual cultural practices of his ancestors but was still documented as a Muslim king.

You ain't going to be hearing this on cnn just to let you know brother the last few comments you've been getting recently are from trolls they seem to pop up when I'm about or sign up to a channel, stay blessed.
Brilliant video, more like this please 👍👍
Some quality scholarship right there .
I just have one sugestion: use more african songs along the narration.
Rameses the 1e and Mansa Musa are the Toppers
I remember trying to research the name Chi Ali years ago as to where the name came from because the young rapper at the time had that name. It always sounded great. I don't remember if tye connection lead to the great Sunni Ali. This is why I must restart reading the Songhai journey...
It's interesting how a conqueror will take over an entire empire but the Europeans will call him the King of Timbuktu. And this happened in every aspect of African culture, history and identity.
Can we have a history on the Mende people where originally did they come from .
Great Video and Great Research!!!!!
I've long been fascinated by Sunni Ali.
Every video that you do is so inspiring and more information that once again the Europeans and my time and before me they wouldn't speak of nothing like this that was the understanding to oppressed people of color but thank you and may the grace of God be with you and keep you safe so that you can give us more information that you have to give🤔🤔🤔🤔✊✊✊✊✊✊👍👍👍👍👍👍❤❤❤❤❤❤❤💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💖💓💓💓💓💓💓💓🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏🙏.
Can you do a video on Tippu Tip?
Fun fact: 90% of the Dencendants of the rulers of Songhai are currently in Western Niger (over 2 million) and they are called the Songhai 'proper'
Tho..Gao And Timbuktu remains in modern day Mali.
Nah bro! The songhai people are mixture of different ethnic groups such as fulani, malinke, sonink etc...
@@horusba2620 Sorry... You need a history lesson.. Songhai is an Ethnic designation.
I'm an Ethnic Songhai and that's the name we call ouselves.
Google might help you... Go online and Search for "Songhai Languages"
@@horusba2620 What are you on about? The Songhai are literally an ethnic group on their own right, it was a Songhai dominated Empire who’s citizens were a multitude of ethnic groups.
@@randomdude1407 the songhai of today are mixture of different ethics
@@horusba2620 The Songhai of today are their own ethnic group. The Songhai have been their own ethnic group during Ghana, Mali and Songhai there language isn’t even West African, it is Nilo Saharan and has origins in the Nile valley. They have always inhabited an Eastern location. Don’t speak on what you don’t know…
I love your videos and I show them in my middle school. However, have you ever thought of making this more kid youth friendly ages 11-UP?
Sonny (or sy) is the name of his dynasty, it was also used as a title equal to "king"
Hmmm. This'll help give inspiration for an OC I'm making.
Ase to you brother...our story will be told by any means
What a rush! ❤️🌍❤️

Well said
Seeing how west africans which were a minority at the time, conquered and displaced the blush people in Africa, and still treat them as a lesser than human even now, but it comes down to the strongest of that time winning land
I like that new microphone

@@MrWARHAMMER68 Middle East may of not been a threat but North Africa was. It is the reason Songhai fell in the first place.

Sunni Ali- Great distant ancestor .
Kings for kingdoms
Emperor's for empires
I agree
Excuse and correct me if I’m wrong, but Sunni Ali was in fact a Muslim. He was only called infidel because he still maintained the spiritual cultural practices of his ancestors but was still documented as a Muslim king.
