I'm South African and really appreciate this review. This is the first video I've watched of yours and I really enjoyed it.
For the porridge (what we call slaap pap), you do add some sugar to it. 🙂 And the chutney is for the curry. We usually eat curry over white rice or what they call crumbled porridge (krimmel pap) which is corn meal made to crumble in water or stiff porridge. Again, corn meal but made with more water that it stiffs up.
Awesome to see you again Gundog! Your style is unmistakable and unique-plus you have an insight that few of us in the community have. One heck of a 24 hour ration-lots of beverages and snacks to go along with substantial mains. Thanks for sharing.

Hi Gundog! Great review. Breakfast looked really good, glad you added a little sugar that makes the porridge that much better. Lunch was interesting. Adding cheese to the chicken 👍. I can eat cheese just plain. Beef curry with light seasoning might be for me. Not spicy! I love rice, but my favorite is rice, sugar, butter and milk. I like watching BlindFox do her reviews. I like the way she pronounces certain words. Take care and have a great day.

The plastic bags are for mixing your drinks in, we used to mix the porridge and the shake together in those bags. Tie off the end and bite a hole in the corner. they are known as "effel" (condom) bags.

Great stuff as usual GD! The problem I have with BBQ rice is that the grains keep falling through the grill grates into the charcoal!

No Joke, "Rooibos" is pronounced "roy-boss" It has no caffeine, so it's good for night time, if you don't wanna be hopped up on caffeine before bed. Personally, i prefer it with a little bit of sugar, and a little cream, or half and half...delicious.

The maize porridge is called Mealie Pap and it is a staple South African breakfast item.

'Maize Porridge' is pretty much 'Corn Mush', made with corn meal not corn grits. It can be as smooth as pudding and either savory or sweet and once in a blue moon savory sweet. The McDonalds in Thailand has a fried corn pudding pie that is pretty much what it states to be, a pudding made with corn starch, corn meal and creamed corn....sounds weird AF but it works and its one of the rare 'savory sweet' corn puddings I've found and I wish McD's in the US made that.

Hey there Gundog! Wow, these African MRE's are as packed as the Dutch ones. Talking about Dutch rations. Saw MRE mountain has the new Dutch Operational Ration Extended Energy. Menu 1 has a main that's is truly Dutch. Kale potato stew with smokes saussages. Would love to see what you think of it.
The plastic bags, we called jiffies were used to mix your drinks, add water and powdered drink, shake make a little hole and drink.
We call it Mielie Meal. It's great with a little butter and milk.
Those cheese tubes also come in those mixed meat and cheese gift boxes alongside other stuff, including candy.
First moment I saw them I thought : ' huh, dog food? ', as they sell them here filled with paté as dog treats... hell, in a pinch, food is food, right?

Chutney and curry is an extremely common combination in curry-eating places. Note the name, chutney as opposed to jelly or jam.

I shut down facebook after a family member got hacked and I got hacked. Rather than deal with all the "Did you send me this?" "You got me hacked" I just moseyed off into the sunset. As for coming back, I always planned on it. Won't ever be weekly since work doesn't allow for the time but hopefully a lot more often than I've been posting.
